Chapter 222: Chapter 222 - Unconditional love

Eric stood beside Haolei peering up at him wordlessly.

"I know what you are about to ask, but the answer is no. I haven’t found anything about your beloved Bai yet,"

"N-nothing?"

"Not clue... but I’m sure I can find him soon." Haolei cast a comforting smile his way.

"Thank you," Eric jumped in and helped him out with small chores.

He had been waiting for any news about his lover. They only knew that he had recovered and that he had moved to a different hospital. But even after Haolei put pressure on the staff the hospital refused to divulge which hospital he was now currently in.

As he was cleaning up the pancake containers he thought about this issue. ’Maybe I should drive to all the nearby hospitals and claim to be his brother. maybe they will give news about him.’

"Nervous?" Haolei gently patted the top of his head waking him up from his dazed state.

Eric blankly looked up at him. "About what?"

"School, dummy. Did you forget about it already?"

Eric’s eyes widened. "Shit.... What time is it?" he scrambled out of the kitchen but Haolei grabbed a hold of his collar and dragged him back in.

"you’re not late, don’t worry. Eat your breakfast. I’ll pack your bags. All you have to do is take a bath and freshen up." he made him sit at the dining table and set a beautiful plate of juicy pancakes with a bit of chocolate syrup on them.

Eric’s mouth watered just looking at the beautifully desert.

Little shadow who sat beside him had the same reaction. His black eyes were peering at the syrup-soaked pancakes without blinking.

"You want one?"

Little shadow’s eyes fell on him. "Yes please..."

"Wait a bit,"

His brother had made extra pancakes for him in the kitchen. He burned them casting the familiar spell.

"Eric! Did you just burn something again!" Haolei came running into the kitchen and gazed at the burned mess on the stove. "Okay that’s it, you are banned from burning anything in the kitchen."

"But it’s for little shadow. The poor child hasn’t had anything good to eat in such a long time he really wanted to taste your lovely pancakes brother," he hugged his waist and cat a pitiful look up at him.

Haolei looked at him with his eyes narrowed. "Nice try, I’m not lifting the ban. No burning in the house,"

Sighing, Eric let go. "Tsk fine, at least set up a bruin bin out of the house so I can do my spell with ease,"

"I’ll do that. But you have to inform me of any spell you cast. I don’t want you divulging into dangerous hexes and stuff."

Eric raised a brow. "Do you even think I will do that? I’m not a bad person, brother,"

"I know. But you are a kid. Kids can go astray. As the only adult in your life, I have to make sure you stay in the correct path," Haolei gently hugged him and kissed the top of his head.

He then pulled him out of the kitchen and made him sit on the dining table. "Eat,"

With a small smile, Eric ate his pancakes. Little shadow was also eating his share with a big grin on his face.

"Wow, this tastes so good. Your brother is such a good cook. I wish I could also cook. When I was alive, my parent would ’t let me into the kitchen in fear I might burn it down," he mumbled licking the chocolate syrup off his fingers.

Eric paused his chewing. "waa..."

"don’t talk while chewing," Haolei glared at him.

Eric hurriedly gulped it down. "Little shadow. You remember your childhood?!"

Little shadow tilted his head and nodded and then proceeded to shake his head. "I can only remember a few things.... I don’t remember their faces... but I know for sure that I was born into a very rich family!"

"yes, that is it! brother little shadow was a rich kid. Can you find any rich kids who were kidnapped or lost in the past two years?"

Haolei raised a brow. "Little shadow?"

"Yeah, that is his name. he likes it. forget about that, did you hear what I just said?"

"I’ll check on the missing person record." Haolei awkwardly glanced at the empty chair beside Eric. "I’ll find your parents for sure. Don’t worry,’

Eric gazed at little shadow who blushed slightly. "Tell him I said thank you."

"He said thank you,"

After that small conversation, Eric and the others fell silent eating their breakfasts.

"What about the class schedule? I didn’t receive any,"

Haolei gave him a reassuring smile. "I already took care of that. But let me know if you can’t handle the course. The principal can put you in a lower grade just so you can adapt to the course."

Eric nodded slightly as he chowed down on the tasty breakfast. He had been in this world for only a month or so. It looked quite normal but the education system might be different. He had been too worried about Yuri to search up on that.

thinking about Yuri a sudden surge of sadness filled his being.

He shook his head. ’Yuri is not dying.. he is fine and healthy. He is most likely attending physical therapy..... we will meet in time..’ he thought to himself as he concentrated on the class schedule his brother slapped on the table.

He had science classes language and a math.

A small clanging sound pulled him out of his thoughts. Peering at the empty plate he dazedly glanced up. ’When did I eat it all?’

Haolei was beside him with a school bag and a set of school uniforms. it was a simple white shirt with blue pants.

"If you can’t handle it let me know. You can be home-schooled if you want,"

Eric desperately wanted to nod and ask to be homeschooled but going out to school gave him a chance to venture out. After school maybe he can lie to his brother and go to the nearby hospital to check for Yuri’s whereabouts.

Seeing his bland reaction Haolei did not say anything much. He gently caressed the top of his head. "If anyone bullies you just let them know your brother is a cop. they will back away. But if they don’t, call me, I’ll deal with it,"

Eric grinned softly. "Thank you. But I can deal with it. If anyone bullies me, I will just send little shadow after them. They will definitely have a sleepless night hehe,"

He and little shadow shared a small mischievous smile.

"no one can see him," Haolei added.

This immediately doused his mischievous idea.

Eric slumped on the chair. "I can always punch them down."

"You do that. I will deal with the consequences." Haolei confidently said to him.

"don’t spoil me too much. I might end up being a hooligan." Eric glanced at his brother’s buys back.

Haolei let out a soft laugh. "What is wrong with me soiling my little brother," he patted his back. "Go take a bath. You need to get ready in fifteen minutes. I’ll drop you off at school."

"Can I take a bus or a train?" Eric hopefully looked up at him.

Haolei peered at him for a second. "No..."

"Why not?"

"I won’t feel reassured about your safety."

Pouting Eric moved to the bathroom. He did a quick job of taking bath and glanced into his uniform. The shirt was nearly ironed and it had a pleasant smell to it. the pants fit him perfectly coming up to his ankle.

Feeling the warmth of his freshly ironed clothes Eric grinned.

He dashed out of the room and hugged Haolei who was waiting for him in the hallway

Haolei froze. but after a while he gently placed a hand on his back. "What is it?"

"I really love you, brother. You’re the best."

Haolei chuckled and hugged him back tightly. "you’re going to be late."

Eric pulled away with a grin. "I can’t afford to be late on my first day. come on let’s go." with his school bag on his back he jumped into the car.
