The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance
Chapter 48: Dependency

Chapter 48: Dependency

The werewolves of the Blue Rise pack standing outside the door of the Alpha’s office were afraid. The loud noises of things breaking in the room could be heard, alerting them all. None of them dared to face the Alpha.

Ever since he had returned from the meeting, his temper worsened and grew more volatile. Slightest provocation was enough to set him off and get him to take out his anger on the poor victim.

Everyone thought back to the event during the breakfast. He didn’t hesitate beating up the chef and sending him to the medical center simply because he thought the food tasted bland.

One young warrior wolf stood in front of the door, holding an envelope. Hesitancy showed in his eyes, and he looked around, silently asking for help. But no one dared to meet his eyes, avoiding him.

Knowing that it will only get worse if he postponed time here, he mustered up all his courage and knocked on the door softly. When it was met with no response, he took in a deep breath and knocked on the door more loudly.

Then the sound of something crashing against the door came. "Which son of a bitch is it now?"

He froze.

"Who the fuck is it!?" Mathew yelled from inside.

Knowing he couldn’t retreat anymore, the young werewolf extended his hand and turned the knob of the door, stepping inside. He was met with the red eyes of Mathew— like a demon that crawled from the depths of hell— staring at him.

He was pinned to his position.

"What!? Why are you looking at me like that!? Do I seem that terrible!? Are you terrified of me!? Or could it be that you’re disgusted!? That must be it, right!?"

The more Mathew spoke, the louder his voice became.

"T-That’s not it, Alpha. I respect you, I respect you a lot. There was a letter sent to you from the council," the young werewolf managed to stutter out.

Mathew snatched the letter from the young werewolf and ripped it open. Reading through the content of the letter only enraged him further. The growing tension in the room made the young werewolf want to run away.

The letter was then torn apart and scattered across the room. Mathew threw his head back and began to laugh loudly. That only frightened the other werewolf more.

"A meeting. They said they want to hold another meeting! What do you think the consequence of the meeting would be!? Is it because I am a bastard that they think they can play me like a joke!? It is my pack. Why are they making the decisions!?

I am going to prove to those old retards I am more than that! They are going to pay for underestimating me! I will destroy them all! What do you think?"

Mathew’s eyes next fixed on the young werewolf.

The man’s pupil trembled.

"Could it be that you look down on me!? Are you sneering at me right now? You think I am being smug, right? That I can’t do it!? You’re making fun of me, thinking it would be better if Violet was here!? Right, you think of me as an incompetent bastard as well! How dare you!?" Mathew shouted.

The next moment Mathew’s hand wrapped around his neck, raising him high. The tightening suffocated him, making him struggle against Mathew’s grip.

But that only made Mathew more adamant on suppressing his throat. Then, a cracking sound followed, and when the breath of that young werewolf stopped, he tossed the figure across the room.

Mathew pressed his head to ease the sharp pain.

The door to his office was then opened, and Lydia entered the room. Her eyes went towards the corpse on the floor, and she took a step back when she realized the young werewolf was without life.

Her widened eyes fell on Mathew.

Although Bella knew Mathew lost control of his temper easily these days— especially due to the influence of the drugs— she did not think they would lead him to take a life.

Bella quickly entered the room next and closed the door behind her, so that no one finds the dead body.

"You killed him," Bella expressed.

Mathew growled at her. "So what? I can do that to anyone who dares to disrespect me! Am I not the Alpha of the pack? Are you going to against me as well?"

Bella shook her head.

"Of course not, if you think he deserves to be killed, then that is it. But the pack members or the council are not going to take this easily. It’s not like before when you could kill a werewolf and get away with it. You need to have an excuse," Bella advised.

However, this only agitated Mathew.

"What? So, that bastard Sylas can go around killing werewolves whenever he feels like it, but when I kill a werewolf from my pack for disrespecting me, I need to make an excuse? What bullshit is this!? This is my pack! I can do whatever I will! How dare the council interfere here!?"

"It is due to the effect of the drug you’re being emotional lately. Mathew, Alpha Mathew, you need to think rationally," Bella expressed, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"Are you blaming me here?"

Bella shook her head.

"I could never. I know you have been treated unfairly and want to retaliate, but acting out of emotions will only have us lose everything we worked so hard for. You don’t want that, right?

You need to keep trusting me, Alpha. If I can make you Violet’s mate and allow you to sit here— as an Alpha— then that means I can allow you to get ahead as well. Leave it up to me, alright? I believed in you when no one did. There’s no one whom you can rely on other than me. You know that, right?"

Bella’s hand extended towards the man’s cheek, stroking it gently. Mathew wrapped his hand around Bella’s waist and pulled her close with strong possessiveness.

The meeting with the council left Mathew unsatisfied. He was informed the council will be overlooking the mines until Violet has been found, and a judgement was carried out.

Although his veins popped out in frustration, Mathew remembered Bella’s words earlier and kept his amicable image, allowing the council to proceed with the decision.

Even Alpha James was impressed by Mathew’s ability to remain unwaveringly calm.

He sneered, commenting, "You have truly mastered the act of swallowing down your anger and bowing your head. Must be a useful skill for a lowly werewolf."

Mathew smiled at James and responded, "Alpha James, the decision made by the council is right."

"I will give you an interesting piece of information. Your dear mate could be at the RLY hospital. Few of my wolves saw Alpha Sylas and his buddies enter and exit the hospital," James informed.

A glint crossed through Mathew’s eyes.

"Oh? I thank you for the information then."

"Tomorrow is your last day here, Violet. I am sad. Can’t you stay here for a few more days?" Anna expressed, extending her hands to hug Violet’s waist. There was atttachment shown in her eyes.

"I wish I could. I will come visit you soon, I promise. You need to take good care of yourself, Anna. I heard from your mother they found new treatment for you. It will increase your chances of survival," Violet advised.

Anna groaned. "They always say that, but it ends up failing. I don’t care at this point."

Although Anna tried to be casual about it, she saw the struggle and sadness in her eyes. The girl did not even grow up yet had to be inflicted with so many disorders.

"Anna, don’t worry too much, alright? You will be jumping around in no time. Let’s go on a long trip after this treatment," Violet voiced out.

Anna grinned. "You promise? Then, I want to go see the ocean. I have never seen it."

"Is that so? I haven’t seen the sea in a long time as well. It’s decided then. Let us go to a beach."

"Yeah, we can make sandcastles, play with the water, watch..."

Anna continued to excitedly talk about what all she could do at the beach when Violet froze. Her eyes widened when she saw Mathew in front of her, staring at the side.

Her nerves acted fast as she grabbed Anna and hid behind the wall.

Anna’s curious eyes fell on Violet. She asked, "Are we hiding?"

Violet nodded.

"There’s a bad guy out there. We can’t be caught by him," Violet whispered.

Understanding, Anna nodded.
