Chapter 47: Blasphemous
Chapter 47: Blasphemous
Anna nodded her head.
"I saw him come at night," Anna expressed.
Sylas came to visit her at night when she was asleep.
Why?
Violet was thrown into confusion.
The creases forming between Violet’s brows made Anna nudge her.
Wearing a teasing grin on her face, the twelve year old spoke out, "Is he really the one? Seeing how he secretly comes to see you at night, could it be that he broke your heart and now you’re upset at him, that’s why he can only visit you then? Is this the famous chasing after the wife after she has run away trope?"
Anna’s conjectures made Violet’s eyes widen. Her life would be gone if Sylas managed to hear it.
"Stop, stop, your imagination is going to get me in trouble, Anna. He is my, how do you say it, boss. You’re going to get me in trouble by saying this," Violet expressed.
Anna pouted, feeling disappointed. Then, she, in a lower tone, responded, "It would be nice if he was your love interest. He reminds me of those princes out of the novels. He will suit you well, Violet."
Hearing those words in itself felt blasphemous to Violet. Sylas presented himself in such a closed manner that she couldn’t imagine the possibility of him ever showing interest in her.
Sylas treated her well, catering to most of her needs, but deep down, she did not think the man did not care about her enough.
His appearance was deceptive, giving one the impression that Sylas warmed up to one easily and welcomed everyone, but that was far from the reality.
"Well, he is indeed, but he has someone he loves deeply. That’s why, stop saying things so silly," Violet stated.
She recalled about the photo of his mate Julia on Sylas’s desk. Although everyone was secretive about the past, Violet gathered enough information to know the death of his mate changed Sylas and even now he wasn’t over his mate.
"So, what about you, Violet? Do you like him? Were you feeling sad about him? Or is it someone else?" Anna questioned. "Tell me about it. I can be a good cupid."
"Why are you thinking about liking all the time? It’s nothing like that. I was thinking about something else," Violet stated although she was indeed thinking about Sylas. But nothing good will come out of letting the precocious kid know about it.
Anna was about to speak up when a voice interrupted her: "I see you have made a little friend, Princess."
Violet turned her head to find Lucas approaching her. The next second, she felt something warm on her head, realizing Lucas pressed down the food box.
Anna tilted her head to greet Lucas. "Hello, I am Anna. Are you a friend of Violet?"
"Call me Lucas," he spoke out. "So, what was the interesting matter Princess and you were chatting about? I am curious."
Before Violet could stop her, Anna said, "I wanted to know about Violet’s love life. I thought she had something going on with the tall and beautiful man, but she doesn’t sadly. I shipped them hard."
"Tall and beautiful man?" Lucas enunciated in confusion.
"Anna, get inside. The doctor will come over to check up on you after a while."
Anna heard her mother call her and sighed— her mood going downwards.
"Violet, bye. I will come to play with you later," Anna expressed, getting up from her seat and waving at Violet.
Violet waved back. "Bye, Anna."
Once Anna entered her room, Lucas’s narrowed gaze stayed on Violet. "Who was the tall and beautiful man she was talking about? Could it be that you found someone?"
Hearing this made Violet choke.
Why did he want to know this?
"No, of course not. How do I know who is this man she is talking about? Maybe it’s a misunderstanding," Violet replied.
"Eh, Princess, look at you. Haven’t you become smooth in lying? Do you think I will buy it? So, who is this man? Let me tell you, Princess.
You can’t like a guy until I confirmed he is decent enough. Most men are piece of shits. You need to let me judge it first," Lucas lectured her.
Violet wondered how he would react if he knew the tall and beautiful man was actually Sylas.
This made her think about Sylas. She found herself becoming more and more curious about why Sylas visited her secretly at night. Subconscious expectations began to form in her head.
Could it be that the Alpha was actually worried about her?
Lucas poked her in the head. "You’re wandering off again. Could it be that you’re thinking of the tall and beautiful man again?"
Violet blinked her eyes. The realization struck her how her thoughts were turning towards a dangerous direction, and she shook her head.
"Tall and beautiful man? Who is it?" Lydia asked, coming over holding Violet’s medical report.
Lucas shrugged his shoulder in response. "I don’t know. Apparently, it’s Princess’s secret crush."
"It is not!" Violet exclaimed— her cheeks growing warm. She felt flustered.
"Tall and beautiful, hmm..." Lydia expressed thoughtfully. "Those are the words you can use for Alpha."
Hearing that made Lucas instantly burst into laughter.
"The Alpha? Even if you gave her thousand guts, she wouldn’t dare like the Alpha. Did you see how meekly she behaves in the presence of Alpha?" Lucas joked.
Lydia’s sharp eyes on her made Violet feel exposed. Violet stood up from the seat and turned the other way.
"I am going into the room. I am sleepy," she expressed.
°°°
Despite the sleep pressing down on her, Violet worked hard to keep her eyes peeled open. The anticipation made her heart beat faster, making her feel excited.
Would Sylas be coming here tonight as well?
When the sound of the door opening reached her ear, Violet’s hands trembled. Sweat gathered on them. It took everything within her to keep herself calm.
The tangy and sweet scent of the grape wine enveloped her— stronger than before. However, instead of intoxicating her, it strangely comforted her, lulling her into a deep sleep. She worked hard to not let out a satisfied howl.
Next, she heard the sound of the chair being dragged across the floor, and as Sylas sat down on the chair, coming closer to her, the scent only grew stronger.
Her stomach twisted with growing nervousness and emotions she wasn’t able to pinpoint.
"Stop pretending to be asleep." Sylas’s calm velvety voice came next.
Violet gulped.
Peeking only her eyes out from under the blanket, her cheeks were flushed red from the heat as she turned her head to look at Sylas. Her eyelashes fluttered.
"Alpha, I wasn’t able to fall asleep," Violet softly spoke out. The hazel eyes held excitement and nervousness in them.
"Were you waiting for me?" Sylas asked.
Being caught made Violet feel flustered, but then it clicked into her that it was Sylas who came into her room every night. This made her pull down the blanket and sit up on the bed hurriedly.
"Alpha, I thought you had forgotten about me. Why do you come here sneakily at night?" Her voice held a hint of complaint.
For a second there, Violet thought she caught a flicker of struggle in Sylas’s eyes before he concealed it under his gentle smile and said, "I have been busy during the day. Are you complaining now?"
Violet shrunk her head. "No, Alpha."
After that, she gained her courage and raised her voice: "But, Alpha, you should have still told me. What can you do by sitting quietly on your own?"
"You’re noisy," Sylas commented. "It was cuter when you were meek as a mouse in front of me."
Violet frowned, silently disagreeing with him.
Feeling the yawn coming out, Violet struggled to keep it in. Tears glistened in her eyes as she covered her mouth.
"Go to sleep if you can’t keep awake," Sylas said— his tone making it sound like a command.
Although she was drowsy, she did not wish to give up this treasured time with Sylas.
"Are you going to stay here, Alpha?" Violet asked.
"For a while," Sylas responded.
Violet was confused but did not question, afraid that Sylas would be upset.
"Alpha, you never told me what happened that day after going to the meeting. Did you get to see Mathew’s face? Was he angry? It’s sad that I wasn’t able to see it. The last expression I remember on his face was him smugly looking at me. Thinking about it pisses me off."
Violet folded her hand over her chest, letting out an exasperated groan.
