The Return Of His Ex Wife
Chapter 40: Melissa’s Threat

Chapter 40: Melissa’s Threat

Third POV

Dessra didn’t really understand why Melissa was behaving weird. But then, she didn’t really care. "Well hurry up and help out in the kitchen, come on."

Melissa nodded. "Of course, I’ll join you now." Truth be told, she disliked the way Desdra ordered her around. She hated their family so much but found herself stuck there because she was so focused on marrying Derek back then.

Alice, Derek’s mother was already waiting too as they all gathered in the living room. "I guess your plan is working at last, isn’t it?" She said to her daughter. Melissa followed and sat next to Desdra.

Desdra gave a satisfying smile. "Of course mother. What matters the most is that no one tell Derek. That’s the most important thing."

"Of course." Melissa quickly said. "Derek knows nothing now." Deep down, she still couldn’t help but think about Donovan threatening that Nina was his. She didn’t think she was pregnant all those while she dated Donovan...she met Derek just a few months later and broke up with Donovan. That was when she was pregnant with Nina. And even if she wanted to count all those times where she slept with Donovan even after being married to Derek, she had already given birth to Nina!

"That’s nonsense. Derek is the father..." she muttered under her breath.

Someone rushed in, one of the ladies who followed Desdra about. Maybe her personal assistant, Melissa couldn’t tell.

"Ma’am! There’s been a huge problem! What do we do??" The lady cried out.

"Are you so stupid to embarrass me in front of my mother and in law??" Desdra snapped. "Get out of here now, Whitney."

"But ma, it’s an emergency." She insisted, cutting Desdra off. "You’ve been sued for defamation of character. Your lawyer, madam Holly just sent this to the email now."

The moment she announced, the tension in the room seemed to increase. "What? What nonsense! Who’s the bastard bold enough to try this with me?!"

"It’s miss Aniston." Whitney replied.

"Wait, Tara??" Alice had to ask again to confirm. "She caught up to us? But how??"

"It’s fine mom, I know how to shut her up. I have huge connections, so many big men that will shut up the whole Aniston household if they start to prove difficult." Desdra said with confidence. Something still bothered her though. "Where did you see this, on a website?? A blog??"

Whitney shook her head. "Just a confidential email from your lawyer."

"Good. Make sure it remains a secret until I cover this up. Do you understand?"

Melissa only remained calm and watched them plan. Who cared if Tara was already powerful enough to sue the likes of Desdra to court...although it scared her a little. Tara was really a powerful woman and she never ceased to remind her. But at least her own plan was enough to ruin Tara permanently.

"Melissa, make sure to still keep this a secret, okay?" Desdra’s unfriendly voice brought Melissa back to reality.

"Y—yes sister Desdra."

"So what about that shoe you promised me? Are you waiting for me to fall on my knees and start to beg now?" Desdra said so casually, already forgetting about Tara’s threat so soon.

This again with Desdra begging. This was another reason Melissa hated this family. They pretended like they were classy and all, but they clearly begged a lot!

"I haven’t even wore that shoe before, it’s so new and—"

"It doesn’t matter. Why can’t you just give her the shoe as a gift? Her birthday is coming up in seven month’s time. What are you going to gift her then?" Alice said, disgusting Melissa instantly.

But she managed to keep a straight face. "Um, of course, what ever you say, mother. Sister Desdra."

"Wonderful!" Cheered Desdra and her mother.

Melissa heard a notification message from her phone and checked, only, she noticed she had not been the only one to have received the message. As soon as they read through the content, all three of them including Desdra’s friend or pa, Whitney, all turned to face her. On their looks were different kinds of shocked looks.

Melissa then took it as a smart idea to go through her messages as well. Fear crept her skin and her breath quickened. What the hell was this?? What should she do right now??

"Melissa, what’s the meaning of this message? Who the hell is this claiming to be the real father of Nina?" Alice asked with a straight face while Desdra was watching her suspiciously.

Melissa swallowed. What sort of mess has she gotten herself into now? She had to say something, anything. Luckily, she was able to figure out a story.

"I really can explain. This guy is a school colleague of mine. And we used to be enemies back then."

Derek’s POV

I still couldn’t believe my eyes all morning seeing Tara flourish left and right. I mean, Monday mornings, I was the one supposed to be getting positive news like this. Instead, Tara was on every magazines and blogs and tv station talking about some project.

"Show off," I kept saying in my office as I scrolled through my phone. "I bet this man is still in your life pushing you all around. Rubbish!"

Deep down, I began to wonder what it was that I wanted exactly. I still missed Tara like crazy, and yet I get angry every time I see her. Besides, I couldn’t actually divorce Melissa now that Nina is such a big girl.

My phone kept ringing that I was forced to pick up. "Seriously, I’m at work sister."

"I’m only calling for the sake of your pathetic marriage life you fool!" Desdra began to lash at me. "But of course, it seems like my help isn’t needed so what the hell is the point anyway."

I heaved in a deep sigh trying to calm down. "Okay sis, what is it?"

"It’s your wife. You should keep her under thorough check up. I think she’s in some kind of danger."

I frowned, seeming more interested in what she had to say. "What is that supposed to mean? Who’s endangering her? What did you see that makes you say so?"

"Mother and I and Melissa were together yesterday when we received a suspicious message from an unknown number. Although I’ve asked my men to track the number but apparently, they aren’t having any luck so far."

"What message did you receive?"

"He was making strong assumptions that Nina wasn’t your real daughter. When I asked Melissa about it, she claimed this man and her were colleagues back in school and he hated her guts. He’s a criminal and is very lazy too, so apparently he’s broke and wants money. He calls some of his ex class mates and threatens them for money."

I could feel my blood already boiling by this rate but I still had to calm down to listen.

"Anyway, just protect your wife. It seems this man is a lunatic. To think that he is able to track our number to send such stupid message says that he really is a criminal on to Melissa."

I nodded forgetting Desdra couldn’t see me nod. "Alright thanks a lot. I owe you big time sis." I said what she loved to hear the most. Praises.

"Alright then. By the way. The main reason I’ve called is because of um...Tara. Apparently, she sued me. But don’t worry, I’ve got things all covered up. Bye!"

I didn’t hear her well, or I hoped she had been speaking some other language. "Sued you? I can not avoid any more scandals right now, what did I tell you! Didn’t I say you avoided Tara and her whole damn family?? Do you know the amount of trouble you’d get me into if this news breaks out!"

"Relax. I’ve got things all settled out." Desdra said with her foolish pride. How could she be such an annoying leech on my end! Always getting me in trouble!

Before I could say anything else, she already hung up.

First thing first, I dialed the number of my pa and stated my command. "If you find anyone suspicious around my wife, you deal with him and make him regret ever messing with the Marisol household. Do you understand! In fact, you have to find this man and bring him to me." I stated everything Desdra had told me as I have my order.

After that was over, I knew it was time to move on to the most important thing next. I was about to dial her number when a call came through.

"What is this? She has the nerves to call me after trying to sue my sister?? I better settle this once and for all." I picked up the call and opened my mouth to speak out my words of anger but was cut off by Tara in a chilly commanding tone.

"Derek, we need to talk." She said boldly. I couldn’t help but imagine what she wanted to talk about.
