The Return Of His Ex Wife -
Chapter 39: Some Truths
Chapter 39: Some Truths
Tara’s POV
"What is it? You look so ugly with your eyes bulging out like that." I heard Mike said.
"It’s ...Thomas Aniston. Tom and Desdra." I realized I’d been stuttering, Mike flashed me a blank expression.
Furrowed brows raised at me. "Okay? They did what? And who the hell is Desdra? Should we care about her?"
I needed to make sense of this information. "Mike, Tom was part of this scandal raising about me not being competent enough for the project. He and Desdra Marisol, my former sister in law."
"Oh that witch? I knew that name was so horrible when I heard it. But why? Didn’t you leave her brother just like she and her mother have always wanted?"
"Right??! I don’t know why they’re still on to me. Apparently, Arlo has some friends, you know, these wealthy folks. And he mentioned some of the horrible things Desdra had saying about me. She posted something, here’s a link."
"I have my laptop here." Mike walked towards where the chairs were arranged and picked up a bag from there to reveal his laptop, then he checked out the link on it and it brought him to a page of me spewing nonsense online. "What the fuck?"
"Wait, this is an actual video of me spewing nonsense, what is this!" I had to watch again and again to see the face on the laptop speaking with so much zeal. "You’re the only one who knew about this. How do you want to convince me right now that you didn’t do this? Because clearly this is an AI video of me!!!"
Mike looked to serious, "clearly, this isn’t me! I didn’t do this. However..." he put his hand to his head and began to play with his hair. He only did that when he was nervous or lying.
"You’re hiding something, come on. Spill."
"I told him about the project! I know I shouldn’t have, but we hated you both you know? I emphasized on it so well enough that he probably thought of a means to punish you. And for that, I’m sorry again."
"Stop saying you’re sorry, it’s so creepy now." I frowned. But then, I wasn’t mad at him at all. "But how did he and Desdra click so fast like this that they’re starting to plan against me. It’s so stupid and very heartless of Tom."
"Tom is always being controlled by his dinner wife, Queen. You know what, you just leave him to me. I’ll punish him but I’ll try to speak to him, and if he’s really as corrupt and stupid as I’m thinking he already is, I’ll cut off all of my investment in his new business. He’ll be so wrecked."
"But you were just like him, you both hated me. So do you think he deserves this kind of punishment from you?"
"I know. But I never do anything that can jeopardize your career or future. That’s why Tom needs to be punished. We don’t ruin each other, we never have." Mike said, and I couldn’t help but agree with him.
"Then you leave Desdra for me. I’ll deal with her, seriously I’ve warned that stupid witch!"
"How many witches do we have now? I need to start keeping count."
I laughed at his statement, but laughed again as the thought crossed my mind. Just like that, I had ended the war between I and Mike. He has always been my favorite. And now I could think of the reason why I hated Ali, it was because she always looked so cool and acted like she knew better than me. Now that I thought about it, maybe she did know better than I do.
"It’s stated here that your fake boyfriend wants you to publicly announce your business plan this Monday, that’s tomorrow." Mike stated, bringing me back to reality.
"Oh," the thought that Arlo and I were still fighting weakened me a little, I hated the fact that he was still trying to help me when he was supposed to be mad at me. "That’s true. I guess I’ll have to make the announcement tomorrow. But first, Desdra needs to be punished."
Melissa’s POV
"I’m being sued for defamation of character and so many other things! This fucking list is so damn long I can’t even begin to make mention of all of the stupid false accusations being listed here." Desdra screeched, scaring the shit out of me. I knew I was supposed to have been used for her dramatic reactions to things, but I just hadn’t been used to it.
It sucked that I had to pretend like I actually liked these people, it really did. "What are you talking about, sister Desdra?" I pretended like I cared, putting on my best smiles.
"That stupid bitch! She sued me! I’m just getting a notification right now from my lawyer, what the hell is this!" She continued to roar, shocked by the news she’d just received.
"Who sued you? And for what exactly?" I asked again, but in a much calmer voice. My phone was still vibrating now, a call from someone very important that I had to be speaking with now. But because of Desdra’s sad story, I was stuck to pretend like I cared what was going on in her life. If not for my personal reason of being here, why would I even be out of my comfort house on a Saturday away from my beautiful daughter?
"...Tara! She’s the one causing all of this." I heard Desdra saying, but apparently, I didn’t need to hear the full details before knowing the person being involved. "Wait, she did this? Why would she even sue you?"
To be honest, the mention of that name alone scared the shit out of me. I was not a fan of her at all, especially after the creepy threat she made the last time I really saw her, besides from my nightmares when I had that she ended up with Derek. For some reason, I kept having this thought that she would end up back in his life, which always annoyed me!
"That same Tara, she’s threatening me now. Just because of a little scandal, like, people create news about us every time. Doesn’t mean we go around suing them like jobless fools!" Desdra continued to say out of annoyance. I had to calm down and pick out her words to know what she meant. So Tara was threatening her, huh? Was she really powerful enough to do that?
"Are you actually gonna pick that call?" All of a sudden, desdra said to me, making me shocked at how she had noticed my phone had been vibrating.
"Oh, you know what? Let me do that right now. Please excuse me, sister Desdra." I took it as an opportunity to quickly walk out and pick his call. On my Wah out, I could still hear Desdra complain about how much nerves Tara her to have taken her to court, and how much trouble she would get into once Derek found out.
"Hey," I said as soon as Donovan picked up after dialing his number.
"Where the hell did you put your phone?? I was trying to reach you because I got something urgent to tell you!" He barked out. Though his voice seemed a little muffled like he was in a restricted area and he couldn’t talk louder than that.
"Why are you whispering?" I asked waiting for his reply. What the hell had this idiot gotten himself into? Where even was he??
"You listen to me. What is going on with your plan to punish Tara? We were supposed to start with our plan this week, why are you holding back now?"
I said through gritted teeth, "I’m not holding back, I’m just waiting for your go ahead. You were busy taking about how you’d be unavailable last week that I had to put a pause to our plan."
"Your plan." Donovan said immediately that I was forced to frown. What did he mean by that? "I still dunno why we have to punish such a sweet lady like that!"
"Shut up Donovan and do exactly as you’re told. You asked for money, didn’t you? And I will provide just exactly what you’ve asked for."
"You use that money to take care of yourself and my sweet baby." He went ahead and ruined it with his foolish talk again.
Instantly, I could feel my blood boiling. "Your baby?? How many times do I have to tell you that you’ve been mistaken! If you keep this up, you could really get me in trouble! She is not your daughter, Donovan. Stop making up silly things like this, do you understand me or will I have to spell it out for you a little louder!" I had to make my voice clear and loud for this man. Why did he keep saying this nonsense??
Instead of him to get threatened by my words, Donovan bursted out in laughter like what I’d just said had been funny.
"What, did that sounded funny to you?" I frowned, throwing that question at him. "My daughter belongs to Derek, so you better stop spewing this nonsense about—"
"Hi, who’s that?" My heart skipped a bit as soon as I heard that voice. I turned back to see Desdra standing by the entrance. How long had she been there!??
