The Return Of His Ex Wife -
Chapter 38: Raging Speech
Chapter 38: Raging Speech
Tara’s POV
"Oh yea, so you have something to say now?" I frowned, ready for Ali’s raging speech, or at least I was trying to prepare myself for it.
Even the tone of her voice started to sound threatening in a commanding way. "Don’t shut me up like that, Mike. For so long, I have tolerated all of your bullshit. Don’t you think it’s time for you and your immature sister to grow up??"
"That’s too much, Ali!" I barked out at her but she didn’t even seem moved.
"You both behave like you know it all saints and only one of you is right while the other is always at fault. And both of you claim that you used to love Celine. But tell me now, is this what that poor lovely woman would have wanted? Haven’t you ever sat down for once and think about it??"
Her words seemed to easily melt like butter all over my skin in an annoying way...I became relaxed, and so did Mike.
"This whole damn project that got you both fighting like fools was supposed to be in the honor of Celine. But all you’ve done so far is fight over such trivial things! I’m done with this, and I think so are the kids. Either you fucking make up right now, or just go your separate ways for real and never speak to each other again. Make up your minds now." And with that, the fiery tongued woman walked out from our midst leaving us to creep into the disturbing silence.
After what seemed like eternity, we both decided to speak. I started to initiate a conversation. No matter how hard I disliked Ali (now that I thought of it, I didn’t even realize why I didn’t like her, she seemed so cool) she made me emotional. In everything she mentioned, truly my mother would have done everything to keep the family together.
"So why do you even hate me? You and Tom." I threw the question to him and it made him shook his head a little, then chuckled slightly like what I’d asked had been funny.
"Dad made you the family CEO to the company, even though you had two elder brothers. Can’t you figure it out already?"
This made me a bit mad. "So why are you more angry at me? Shouldn’t dad get some of the punishment as well, if not 60 percentage of it."
"I’m not mad at you, moron. It’s me I’m angry at." His features darkened that I almost thought he would burst out in tears any moment soon.
I waited, hoping he would share more. And he did.
"See, the witch made me do something I’m not supposed to do."
"What witch?"
"You know, the mother I got stuck with."
I didn’t understand. "Please, you love Rebecca more than anything." I reminded. "Now she’s suddenly a witch?"
"She is, okay? She took everything from me! And she put these hateful words in my head about you. I know I shouldn’t have listened, but I did." He seemed angry the way he spoke. Again, I kept quiet and said nothing.
"Um, she encouraged me to make a huge investment in her makeup business just eight years ago. It crashed under a few months, and I got really mad at her. You know where I was able to hand her such huge amount of money? From the company, Tara. I stole funds, despite the fact that dad always gave us whatever we needed."
"He found out and I should have begged him, but I claimed the company should have been my right, so I could do whatever I liked to it. We were in debts just a few months before you got divorced to Derek. Which made me more angry since I thought i would be able to ask you to get us some loan from Derek to cover up."
"I thought dad had forgiven me, but fast forward to seven years ago, he made you the family CEO, and you deserved it. We all know how financially careless Tom can be, especially with that his wife of his misguiding him all the time. Still, because I couldn’t forgive myself, I became even more jealous of you. I guess what I’m trying to say is that...I’m sorry, Tara. Can you forgive me?"
That happened way faster than I’d expected! The surprising thing was that the moment he spoke his truth, I wasn’t mad at him anymore. Ella might had been right, maybe I needed to speak to Arlo! But my pride just couldn’t bring me to doing that.
"Of course, I forgive you. I’m sorry too, for everything." I quickly said to show my sincerity. Thankfully, he acknowledged it and just like that, it seemed like we had been cool. "We’re not going to hug it out or something...are we?"
"Two seconds." He said and I laughed before falling into his arms.
The door opened and I turned back with excitement to find Arlo but instead, it was someone else. I’d seen him with Arlo before though so he wasn’t really a stranger.
"Hello miss Tara, I’m Diego. Arlo’s personal assistant. He told me to hand over this file to you."
"Oh thanks. Um, where is he?" My curiosity took over sooner than I’d expected.
"He left already. There was business he needed to attend." Diego replied before turning to leave.
"So, you and Arlo are not really a thing?" Mike leaned forward to take a peek at the file as I took it out from the envelope.
"I’m going to have to ask you with respect to mind your business, sir." I said back, smiling to him.
"I don’t care. I love that guy, he’s the best! Marry him."
"Shut up," I laughed out to hide the blush on my cheeks. "Um the letter, oh let’s see," I needed to ignore him now because he went on teasing about how cute Arlo and I looked!
I frowned after reading through the first two lines, and that was even Mike realized something was wrong.
