Chapter 263: The Fall Of The Raven Court (2)

The Raven court was done for. Even if they fought to gain control, it was a losing battle that would lead to their extinction. Rumors spoke of the Riddari’s strength. Two of them amounted to the force of Kraven, not to mention a whole battalion of them.

Logi sneaked, not crazy about the idea of sending a dozen Riddari down his trail. He continued his search for Cai and stumbled upon his wheelchair, on the ground, the wheels still rotating.

"No," Logi murmured, begging the gods that he was unharmed.

Logi followed the trail, but a Riddari landed in front of him out of nowhere.

"In the name of the Five Court, you have been ordered to surrender. Resist and you shall meet execution," His deep, masculine voice said.

"Fuck the Five Court!" Logi snarled as his weaves slipped into the debris around him, but before they got a few feet toward the Riddari, the debris melted away. Strange heat radiating off him.

’He’s fucking fire weaver,’ Logi thought panicking, the last weaver he wanted to encounter.

"You have chosen execution, then." The Riddari stretched his hand out. "Died."

Suddenly, a small rock came for his head but melted away before it could hit.

"Stay away from him!" Cai yelled from the top, lying down with his slingshot in hand, aiming for another hit.

Horror flashed in Logi’s eyes as the Riddari directed his attention toward Cai, ready to annihilate.

"No!" Logi yelled, throwing himself at the Riddari before he had the chance to do so.

Logi yelled in pain as his skin burned from being too close, but he was determined to keep pushing, ignoring as his burns got hotter.

"Logi!" Cai shouted.

Logi growled, moving rapidly and driving the Riddari off the cliff.

However, as the Riddari fell to his death, he raised his sword as a raging fire blast through and consumed everything.

Logi jumped out of the way and collided with the ground hard. His body screamed in pain, his right arm up to his neck, and his cheeks were burned.

He coughed, trying to breathe through the smoke covering the area.

"Logi!" Cai dragged his body toward him, pushing the little debris out of the way. He picked himself up by the hands and leaned against the wall.

Logi forced his body to its knees. "What did you think you were doing, huh?" Logi snapped. "You think you can take down a Riddari with a slingshot?" He grabbed it and discarded it somewhere. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Cai sobbed as the tears fell freely. "I thought I wouldn’t see you again," he began in a mess of words. "You were gone for a winter, and I waited for you to get back and then—" he sniffled, using the back of his hand to wipe his wet cheeks. "They came."

Logi released a sharp exhale. "Come here."

Cai leaned toward him and they embraced.

"I’m here now, and everything is going to be okay, do you hear me?"

"They are destroying everything. They came out of nowhere, almost like they knew the route that led inside. They ambushed us and killed everyone."

Logi narrowed his eyes, parting away. "Cai, tell me what you saw."

Cai shook his head. "I didn’t see much; it all happened so fast, there were explosions and screams, but I think the loudest of them came from the tunnels."

’The tunnels? The entrance to the mountain?’ Logi thought with wide eyes. "It was the spy." His teeth clenched. Whoever the person was responsible for this, they made their move.

Logi knew the Five Courts responded with this much violence after they took down the Serpents. But he never expected more accurate hits. Whoever this spy was had information that only the commanders knew.

"What will happen now, Logi?" Cai asked weakly.

"We’ll do what we can, but first, I need to get you somewhere safe. There’s an existing tunnel I created winters ago for a crisis like this, it was meant to take a handful to safe locations." Logi’s eyes skimmed the area, and they landed on the wheelchair; it was in pieces now.

"I can’t make it, Logi."

"Of course you will, I’ll carry you on my back if I have to."

"Not with those wounds you can."

"Brat, have you forgotten I cleaned your filthy diapers and spoon-fed you? Carrying you through this is not a challenge."

Cai sobbed, nodding. "I got separated from Vanya and Ekko, they were working on something with Commander Rav."

"Stop talking, we have to move now. Come on." Logi turned.

Cai leaned off the wall, swallowing up the pain that shot through him. He wrapped his arms around Logi’s neck as he hoisted them.

Logi grunted. "Gods! What have you been eating since I left?" He adjusted, but that one move almost made him collapse.

"Logi," Cai said, burying his face in his neck.

"Just hold on, Kraven and Isadora are clearing a path for the escape tunnel, we should be there in no time."

"There’s something else you need to know, too."

"What?" Logi asked distractedly as he tried to navigate what was left of the corridor without falling into the craters.

"Commander Rav and Ekko were onto something, and they involved Vanya."

"And how did you know all this?"

"I talk with Vanya sometimes, we talk a lot."

"That explains it."

"They keep saying there was something suspicious about—"

"About what?" Logi grabbed a rock and hoisted his body, grunting as he made it to another platform.

"I know I said no talking, but I need you to tell me what you know."

"...."

"Cai?"

"...."

Logi turned and froze when he didn’t hear the sound of Cai’s breath anymore.

"Dear gods!" He fell to his knees and grabbed Cai’s body, and placed it on the ground.

Cai had his eyes closed, and he was barely breathing.

Logi’s eyes skimmed for anything that could be wrong, but the smell of burning flesh was too much to ignore.

Logi thought it was coming from him, but it turned out it came from Cai, too.

With shaky hands, Logi lifted Cai’s shirt and found a gruesome wound.
