The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System -
Chapter 92: Maureen and Richard look good together
Chapter 92: Maureen and Richard look good together
Liam’s intended step forward came to a halt.
Facing Maureen was Richard.
The western-style restaurant was exquisite.
The shroud street was not wide.
Across four lanes, the cups and goblets on the table were clearly visible.
Aromatherapy was lit by the table nearest to the glass.
On the other side, a young wine waiter wearing a tailcoat was playing the violin.
Even if you couldn’t hear exactly what melody it was, one could tell it must be a romantic piece from the waiter’s absorbed expression.
Liam stared at the scene for a good five minutes before snapping back to reality.
He forgot what the appropriate expression on his face should be, his brain feeling rusted. ...Is this a date?
Liam’s eyes moved, his gaze falling once again on Maureen’s specially changed pink clothes this morning.
At the moment, Maureen was slightly displeased. She poked at the just served steak with a fork, addressing Richard who sat opposite.
"I never thought a busy man like you would come out and wander in the mall.
Aunt Donald dragged you here to have a meal, why didn’t you refuse?"
Richard nonchalantly and indifferently cut his steak.
Of course, he wouldn’t say that he was the one who specifically called Mrs. Donald asked her to invite Maureen out for dinner.
Although Mrs. Donald resisted Smith’s family, thinking that they had been unfair to Maureen, she looked at Richard as if he were her son-in-law.
Two years ago, she heard about the engagement between Smith and Lincoln’s family and felt happy for Maureen.
Just before leaving, she reminded Richard to take good care of Maureen.
Richard did not let Mrs. Donald down.
Although he found Maureen annoying later on, he indeed helped her many times.
In fact, Maureen probably fell for him because of the heavy rain one day.
Bianca and Chris had forgotten her at the mall, and she was lost without an umbrella, a dead phone, and no money for a cab.
He gave her a ride home.
Nowadays, when Maureen saw Richard, she was like a bashful rabbit, turning around to run.
Richard could only find other ways to spend more time with her.
Richard said, "Aunt Donald is an elder, I can’t refuse her.
But you, ready to turn around and go."
While saying this, Richard’s actions of cutting the steak became forceful.
He said coldly, "Maureen, we’ve known each other for two years now.
Don’t you even want to have a meal with me as a friend?"
"Richard, don’t you feel awkward?!"
Maureen couldn’t help but say, "You don’t like me, and I don’t like you now.
It’s better if we don’t meet, even if we cross paths, it’s best to pretend not to know each other.
Having meals together, I would rather pick an apartment with three rooms and two living rooms with my toes!"
Maureen said this with some frustration, almost chopping her steak into mush.
And she wanted to get back as soon as possible to find out what kind of medicine Liam had taken.
Now Richard is interrupting, he suggested this Western restaurant that has a long waiting line, and Aunt Donald immediately agreed, causing the time to be dragged on.
She really doesn’t want to sit here facing Richard for lunch.
Hearing her words, Richard felt an unnamed frustration in his heart.
He was about to say something, but then Mrs. Donald and Laurel came back from the bathroom.
They sat down on either side of the table.
Richard glanced at Maureen and closed his mouth.
Mrs. Donald sensed something was off with the vibe between the two youths.
Hastily breaking the tense atmosphere, she ladled a bowl of corn soup for each of them.
"What’s brought on this odd behavior?" Mrs.Donald laughed, saying, "
Richard, I must call you out on this.
No need to play hard to get, it’s obvious that you’re fond of our Maureen, right?
Our Maureen is so smart and pretty.
Wait till she gets away, you’ll have nowhere to shed your tears."
Maureen was simply left with no rebuttal. She felt as if she had been forcefully dragged by an elder to an arranged date.
Frustrated, she thought to herself, ’what nonsense, Richard doesn’t like me.
It was just because Aunt Donald asked him to, that he reluctantly helped me with his poker face two years ago.
’ Besides, even if Richard likes her now, her infatuation has long passed.
Unexpectedly, Richard paused for two seconds and said, "Hmm."
Maureen was so shocked that she almost spit out her soup. She abruptly looked up.
What the hell??? What exactly did that "hmm" mean? Richard simply looked back at her, his gaze deep and complicated.
With a phantom-stricken expression on her face, Maureen turned towards Mrs. Donald, feeling incredibly uncomfortable.
She quickly grabbed her bag, ready to make a run for it.
However, Mrs. Donald firmly made her sit back down, assuming it was just her shyness.
In Mrs. Donald’s eyes, Richard was an outstanding student, albeit a bit aloof, which might have made him a bit difficult to get along with.
Yet, most prodigies tend to have quirks. He definitely has a bright future.
Regardless of whether Maureen and him are suitable for each other, he is definitely the best of the younger generation in this circle.
The Smith family has nothing good about them, the only good thing is their child-bride agreement with the Lincoln family.
Mr. Donald admires him and wants to find stronger support for Maureen, so after she comes back, she starts thinking about setting up the pair.
But surprisingly, before she could start matchmaking, Richard came to her first.
This explains that Richard cared about Maureen. Now isn’t Maureen the missing piece?
Mr.Donald remembered that Maureen liked Richard, so what’s there to fuss about now?
"Now you are in your senior year of high school.
I obviously won’t endorse a romantic relationship, but it’s all right once you enter college.
When you reach my and your uncle Donald’s age, you’ll realize how precious your youth is.
Don’t waste it on meaningless misunderstandings.
Can’t you two just talk it out if there’s any issue?"
Maureen was simply annoyed.
"Auntie Donald, it’s not what you think─" Richard interrupted Maureen before he could finish, "I understand, Auntie Donald."
Maureen: "Mrs. Donald: "Exactly, you two are a perfect match."
"Maureen used to talk about you all the time when we video chatted, and you like her now.
What could possibly stand in the way?"
The violin was playing "Serenade".
Mixed with the noise of the bustling street, it intruded the ears.
The air was filled with the feeling of dust rising and the humidity after heavy rain.
A towering black figure stood at the entrance of the western restaurant, clearly hearing Mrs. Donald’s words.
It turns out that in some ways, Maureen and Richard have met their parents.
Liam’s fingers turned pale from carrying the heavy steak bag.
His brain buzzed. He found himself very ironic, as if he was suddenly inserted into this world.
The steak was not as good as the steak on the table, it was added later. The candle and aromatherapy were also not elegant enough.
His pitch-black short hair reflected in the window glass, making him seem like a counterfeit clown.
Liam stood still without moving.
Until Mrs. Donald not far away looked up somewhat strangely and saw that the handsome tall boy’s face was pale, his eyes were pitch-black, and he was staring at her.
Mrs. Donald took an extra puzzled glance, and the next second, she saw the boy disappearing at the door.
After dealing with Mrs. Donald and Richard, Maureen swore that in the future, she would confirm who would attend these kind of dinners before agreeing.
Even though she could understand Aunt Donald’s feelings as an elder, this meal still made her lose her appetite.
As soon as she finished eating, she made an excuse of studying and hurriedly left.
On her way home, she sent Richard a Whatsapp message, telling him that she would go and tell Aunt Donald clear that they had not been in a relationship for a long time.
Maureen didn’t look at Richard’s response and put him back on her list of people who blocked messages.
Aunt Donald was keen to match her with Richard. She had to explain to Aunt Donald, and she had to think carefully about how to phrase it. Maureen only felt a headache.
She returned to Liam’s place with her school bag, rang the doorbell, but there was no response after a full five minutes.
Was he not at home? Maureen pulled out her mobile phone, only to find that Liam had sent her a Whatsapp message half an hour ago.
"The door code is 102488, you can just go in, stay as long as you want."
Maureen asked,
"What about you?" There was a long silence on the other end.
"I have something to deal with, going back to the old house."
In Maureen’s mind, she suddenly remembered the bruise on Liam’s wrist the last time he returned from the old house.
Her heart gave a sudden jolt and she hurriedly asked, "What’s the matter?"
There was no further response from Liam.
