Chapter 93: Liam still hasn’t returned
Liam didn’t come back, so Maureen spent the night alone. After turning off the lights, the whole house suddenly became empty.
There was only a faint blue light left on at the entrance hall, emitting a faint glow.
Most of the other areas were enveloped in darkness.
The 200-square-meter apartment was large enough as it is, and with hardly any furniture, it seemed rather spacious.
And now with the absence of any sound, it was completely cold and silent, giving off an endlessly bone-chilling sense.
This was different from what Maureen had expected.
She thought that with Liam’s flamboyant and unrestrained personality, his living environment must be bustling and lively, with affectionate parents and a circle of friends.
But the reality was not so.
Only then did Maureen realize how little she knew of Liam.
She stayed alone in the apartment, her mind full of things, and was unable to sleep at night.
Maureen couldn’t help but get up to pour a glass of water from the bar area.
Though it felt somewhat inappropriate to explore the apartment by herself without the host present, Maureen couldn’t resist looking around.
She was curious about what kind of movies Liam would usually watch.
So she went upstairs and browsed out for new films in the screening room.
The collection was mostly niche science fiction films, and some with purely foreign covers, making it hard to tell what kind of story they told.
Surprisingly, Spectacus season 1 to 3 sharp as the blazing sun, was not disorganized at all.
Each season had 5 episodes Maureen took a picture of the film catalog, planning to choose ones she hadn’t seen before when they watched movies together.
Subsequently, wearing her pyjamas, Maureen went to another room upstairs to take a look.
The table was littered with a disassembled robot vacuum cleaner, halfway through a repair.
Ash-colored parts were casually strewn about.
Maureen unconsciously wanted to walk over and take a closer look, but her upbringing made her hesitate to randomly touch other people’s belongings.
So, she simply watched from a distance for a while. She strolled through the apartment, finding one word to describe all the rooms - Desolate.
She whiled away the time, and before she knew it, it was already over midnight. Late into the night.
Maureen quickly retreated back to her own room.
She lay there, staring at the ceiling, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
She couldn’t help but open the chat window with Josephine, blankly staring at the 1096 chat records that involved "Liam".
A subconscious itching sensation arose in her heart again.
In what seemed like an inexplicable impulse, she found herself browsing on google"How to determine if you really like someone".
Maureen was startled and subconsciously tried to click away, but licking her dry lips, she couldn’t resist and tensely scrolled down.
The first point she came across was "You’ll be tempted to know the other person’s likes and dislikes."
Maureen glanced at a photo from the movie she had shot, her heart thumping wildly.
Covering her face, she buried her head in the pillow, taking several deep breaths.
After a while, when she had mentally prepared herself...
Maureen continued to read on.
The second point is: Can’t help but stare at them, thinking they are attractive.
Maureen’s blood had all rushed to her head, causing her face to unconsciously heat up. The third point is: Can’t sleep because of them, and even worry about them.
Maureen was utterly exasperated. She tossed her phone aside, faced the ceiling and did several leg-pumping motions as if riding a bicycle, trying to forget what she just saw.
But the Movie Box had been opened, some things are now irreversible.
After a while, Maureen was still scratching her head in irritation.
She couldn’t help but get up, retrieve her phone, swallow, and continued reading.
She read one by one.
Then. Realized she almost checked off the majority of them.
Maureen scrolled down to the last one, the last point was: When you start questioning whether you like them and thus opened this test to prove it one by one, then there’s no need to doubt, the answer is ’yes’.Maureen: "..." ???
Now, Maureen could not sleep at all. Insomnia. One sheep.
Two sheep.
Three Liam Williams ... Maureen’s heart beats rapidly as she lays in bed, unable to sleep for the entire night. Maureen always had a good night’s sleep.
This was the first time she had suffered from insomnia in a very long time.
Fish belly white dawn appeared in the horizon but today Maureen was like a salted fish, she continued lying on the bed with eyes wide-open and expressionless. ... The next day.
Maureen thought that Liam would return the following day.
Unable to sleep, she got up early to clean up.
She moved the couch to the bay window, took down the curtains to wash them in the washing machine, and after drying them, she went through the trouble of hanging them back up.
She was busy and sweaty; that’s how her morning passed.
While cleaning, Maureen found Liam’s broken phone case.
She couldn’t resist but ordered an identical one for him on Facebook.
Liam did not return at noon. In the afternoon, Maureen searched online for a bunch of phrases for "how to gently reject elders who want me to be with someone I don’t like", and then she racked her brain to formulate her sentences, deleting and editing back and forth.
Finally, she sent a message to Auntie Donald explaining the incident at the Western restaurant.
Next, as usual, she went to Professor Logan’s place to spend time with his grandson and study.
By around eight in the evening, she returned.
As she keyed in the entrance password, she inexplicably harbored an anticipation to see Liam sitting on the couch playing video games.
However, upon entering, all the things on the bar counter remained untouched, just as they were when she had left earlier.
Liam still hasn’t returned.
