Chapter 82: Rex Goes To Alfaros

Chapter 82: Rex Goes To Alfaros

Perhaps Regan could feel Rex’s fears and hence he finally answered regardless of how unwilling he was to speak. Somewhere Regan knew that Rex also didn’t trust Evelyn’s loyalty to him. As much as he disliked this, Rex was also his brother. Even if they didn’t share the same mothers from birth, Rex was and would always be his brother. He just didn’t wish to speak because he was afraid that he would say something which Rex wouldn’t like.

However, at this moment, he answered Rex’s question indirectly

"He said that he can’t punish Rafael for whatever he did because Evelyn is just a slave."

Rex went silent at that.

Actually, his father was right. Though it was cruel to Evelyn, his father couldn’t really punish Rafael. If he did then the nobles in the Royal Court could question his decision.

Punishing a Royal Prince for a slave was something that was never heard or seen.

Derrick must be afraid that if it came out that the slave because of which Rafael would be punished belonged to Regan then more trouble would come out for Regan. Nobles would start believing that Regan couldn’t even manage his slave then how would he be able to manage such a large Empire?

However, Regan was also right at his own place. It is just that he was not seeing the big picture and Rex couldn’t blame him. Perhaps he would have done the same in his place.

There was a long silence between them.

Regan was thinking about exactly when he should go to Zamorin to remove that black band from Evelyn’s wrist. Since Evelyn was recovering, it couldn’t be in the near future. He would need to wait for a few more weeks.

While Rex was lost in his own thoughts.

"Do you think that ...by removing that black band you can make her life easy?"

Rex questioned finally. As much as he didn’t want to hurt his brother, he needed to tell him some things.

The question made Regan frown in confusion. He actually thought this. The only symbol on Evelyn for slavery was that black band. As long as she could get rid of it, everything would be fine.

"She would still be a slave in their eyes, Regan."

Rex sighed as he enlightened his brother.

"Regardless of how beautiful you can make her future, there would always be people who would focus on her dirty past, Regan. Whatever you wish to achieve by doing this, the ministers in the court would not let that happen."

"That is ...unreasonable."

Regan couldn’t help but say but Rex could only shake his head and sigh.

"I know it is. But you need to remember that the slave trade in our Empire is prevalent for at least a century now. The non-existence of their dignity, their rights, and inhumanity towards them is so engraved in people’s minds that you and I can’t remove it just by removing that black band from Evelyn’s wrist. Since she had been a slave, they will always look down on her."

There was no frown on Regan’s forehead. In fact, there was no expression on his face. He wanted to say something to counter Rex’s words but he didn’t have a single word.

Most of his life had passed on the border. Hence, he never gets the chance to look closely at the inhuman behavior towards the slaves. On the border, there were soldiers and every soldier was equal to another.

Even a commander or general could not escape from punishment if they did some mistake. Even if he himself was a prince, he always ate and wore whatever came for those soldiers. He slept in the same kind of tent they slept in. The difference just lay in the fact that he led them and they were supposed to obey him on the battlefield and while practicing.

But life beyond the borders was not the same.

Regan didn’t say anything in the end. He just left Rex’s chambers.

After he left, no one could guess what Rex was thinking. But he suddenly walked to the bedside table. There he picked a brush and wrote something with it on a piece of paper. After that, he picked up his sword and exited the castle.

Riding on his horse, Rex reached the dense forests and shouted there

"Lavo!"

Seeing the still forest, he shouted again. It was only after he shouted five times that he heard the flap of wings and soon he could see the giant creature flying towards him.

The giant creature landed a few steps away from him and looked at him with annoyance-filled eyes.

Rex almost wanted to snort in anger seeing his expression but controlled himself.

"Will you take me to Royal Palace?"

He asked finally.

Lavo looked at him arrogantly and seemed to be about to leave from there. Seeing this, Rex immediately stepped forward and said

"It is important. Regan is blaming himself for whatever happened to Evelyn. If Rafael was not punished for what he did to Evelyn then he will continue to do so. I need to go there and ensure that I find something to prove that Rafael was involved in all this. We can’t make him suffer for what he did to Evelyn but his other sins are not less to punish him."

Rafael didn’t know if Lavo could understand him or not. He just said it because he needed Lavo’s help. He wanted to reach Alfaros hurriedly because he couldn’t see Regan like this.

He didn’t want Regan to blame himself.

However, the problem was that Lavo didn’t let anyone ride him until Regan was present.

When he saw Lavo flapping his wings, he thought that he didn’t agree and was leaving. Thinking this, Rex sighed and turned around to walk to his horse. He would just use his horse to go there.

However, the next moment, a startled scream escaped his mouth when he suddenly felt his feet leaving the ground.

Lavo didn’t let him ride his back. Instead, he picked Rex from his feet like prey and started flying in the sky.

"You monstrous creature...you are just like your master, right? Both of you find pleasure in scaring me."

Though Rex said this, he was grinning widely. It was slightly uncomfortable to be held like this by such a giant creature but it was not unbearable. And he trusted Lavo would not let him fall.

Just wait Regan...your brother will make sure that Evelyn would not suffer for nothing.
