The Masked prince -
Chapter 81: Regan Behaving Like Before
Chapter 81: Regan Behaving Like Before
Evelyn was busy playing the same game with Miri, Ami, and Hannah when they heard the sound of someone clearing their throat.
She raised her head and was startled to see the prince standing a few steps away.
Hannah, Miri, and Ami were equally surprised but they soon composed themselves and left the chambers silently after greeting the prince.
Evelyn lowered her head instantly. She didn’t know why but she felt nervous. It was slightly funny. The past few days she had been so eager to see the prince and when he had not come so long, she had been actually worried.
She had wondered if he blamed her for whatever happened.
But now when he was here, she only felt nervous.
On the other hand, Regan was not less nervous. However, he hid it nicely behind his emotionless face.
Clearing his throat again, he asked finally
"How are you?"
"I am fine, Your Highness."
Evelyn answered immediately and Regan merely nodded his head.
This was slightly awkward. He actually wanted to put aside everything and hug her in his arms for some time but didn’t have the courage to do so.
After whatever had happened in the past few days, Regan had somewhere started to believe that if he stayed far away from Evelyn then it would be better for him.
Regan looked away from her lowered head and asked for what he had come to ask.
"I need you to answer a question, Evelyn."
In response, Evelyn raised her head and looked at him in confusion. Her green eyes made Regan swallow for a moment, tempting him to go near her but he controlled the urge and asked finally.
"At what place you were sold in Zamorin?"
Evelyn went stiff when she heard the question. Her face went blank as she stared at the prince and wondered why he was asking this.
Many answers came to her mind but not a single one gave her the courage to ask him this question. In the end, she lowered her head and answered calmly
"In the Royal City of Zamorin."
"I see."
Regan nodded his head in response and said only these two words.
He felt slightly bitter when she didn’t even raise her head to look at him again but then he thought that she might be feeling uncomfortable in his presence. The bitterness inside his heart only increased when he thought this.
But then Regan thought that only he was to be blamed for everything. He didn’t protect her and he was just having his punishment now.
A moment later, he silently turned around and left the chambers while Evelyn stared at his back until it disappeared completely.
Her dim eyes held many questions and also fear.
Has she lost everything she held dear to her heart?
However, the person who could answer her had already left from there.

When Regan went to Rex’s chambers, Rex was also waiting for him there.
Regan only looked at him and then walked to the bedside table and brought out a map from the drawer.
Rex watched all these moves silently and when he didn’t say anything for so long, he finally sighed and asked
"What are you thinking, Regan? Why did you send guards to gather information about the slave trade?"
Before he had seen Regan leaving the grounds suddenly so he had been concerned. When he returned, he found two guards exiting his chambers and immediately asked them what the matter was.
When they told him everything, Rex was actually blank for some time. Though he already had a guess inside his heart regarding why Regan was doing all this, he still decided to ask him.
Rex sighed when Regan didn’t answer his question. He could only stand up and walk to the table where Regan had spread the map.
He only saw Regan marking a place on the map and when Rex saw it carefully, he realized that it was the Royal City of Zamorin.
A frown instantly marred Rex’s forehead as he looked at the place and then at his brother.
"Regan, do you want to free Evelyn?"
"Yes"
Regan said calmly and Rex sighed as he saw his brother folding the map again. However, before Regan could put it back, he held his shoulder and stopped him.
"Regan..."
He started but in the end, he only hugged his brother tightly.
Regan was slightly startled by the sudden hug and wanted to push Rex away but Rex hugged him tightly in return and asked
"What has happened to you? You are just becoming like before ...like how you used to be when Evelyn was not here."
The past week, Rex had noticed carefully and he could feel the change in his brother.
This was not what he had expected. He couldn’t see the Regan from the past again...so aloof, so emotionless.
Parting away, he held Regan’s shoulders and asked
"Evelyn is here now, right? Then why are you like this? Is it because of what happened to her?"
Regan didn’t answer but his red eyes went cold at the question and Rex immediately got his answer.
He sighed as he wondered what he should do.
He had heard from Dan how Evelyn had reacted when she had woken up. He had actually felt upset for her as he knew very well that Rafael was no merciful man.
Evelyn must be very affected by whatever happened to her.
But now it seemed that it was not only Evelyn who was affected, Regan was equally affected by whatever happened.
Rex came out of his thoughts when Regan pushed his hand away and walked to the bedside table.
He looked at his back as he thought silently.
Somewhere he knew what was going on inside Regan’s mind. But Rex also knew that nothing he would say would convince Regan.
However, if he didn’t do anything then Regan would mess up everything.
Just because he was not talking to Evelyn for a week, he was already like this. He was afraid if more time passed like this then Regan would become just like before.
And he didn’t want that.
