Chapter 63: A Letter From The Border

Chapter 63: A Letter From The Border

Evelyn didn’t know if it was on purpose but the prince didn’t come for lunch today. It was Ami who came and fed her.

Ami smiled when she saw her and asked her how she was.

She also told him that Henry’s mother liked Hannah a lot and she is very eager to marry Henry and Hannah.

Evelyn was happy for Hannah. However, after Ami left and the prince didn’t return for a long time, she felt worried.

She knew that the men had left already as Elias had told her that the prince only called them for training in the morning.

Then why did he not return?

Did she really offend him? The thought made her upset and she blamed herself.

Almost two hours passed as Evelyn waited and she didn’t realize when she fell asleep. It was only when she felt a touch on her body that she abruptly opened her eyes.

Her eyes were first filled with fear and panic and Regan was quick to remove his hands when he saw that.

"It’s me."

He said gently. He had not expected to scare her. He saw her sleeping in an uncomfortable posture so he just wanted to help her in lying down on the bed comfortably.

However, remembering the fear and panic in her eyes a moment ago, Regan felt so many questions rising inside his heart.

But he couldn’t ponder for long as Evelyn asked him.

"Your Highness, did you have lunch?"

The question made Regan put aside all his thoughts as he smiled and asked

"Why, you are worried?"

Evelyn looked at his dazzling smile before looking away. She was of course worried but why did she feel so embarrassed to accept it?

But she was worried that she made him angry and she knew very well that whenever he was slightly angry, he would not have his meals.

Regan was so happy that he didn’t even mind that she didn’t answer him. Instead, he assured her.

"I ate."

After that, he sat on the bed and picked up the book from the bedside table. It was only then Evelyn noticed a pile of books on the bedside table. ’

They were not there before. She remembered very clearly. Did the prince bring them now only?

On the other hand, Regan opened the books and suddenly looked at her with a serious expression on his face.

"You must be getting bored while staying inside this room all day. Let me read you a story."

Evelyn was surprised when she heard him. However, she also looked forward to hearing a story so she vigorously nodded her head.

She had been indeed getting bored here. At this moment, she forgot all her hesitations and looked at Regan with anticipation-filled eyes.

Regan cleared his throat when he saw her like this and lowered his head in the book. But from inside, he was feeling smug.

His move didn’t go waste. After all, he had spent almost three hours while looking for something that would make her like his presence.

So Regan read a story to her.

The story was about a traveler.

Evelyn was really enjoying it. He could see it. When he read the vivid description of mountains and snow to her, he could see her green eyes flashing with amazement.

This made Regan promise himself that he would one day take her to this place.

However, they couldn’t enjoy it for long as Elias soon stepped inside the chamber with an anxious expression on his face.

Regan frowned as looked at him with a very unhappy expression.

Elias knew that his master didn’t like to be interrupted but it was urgent so he passed the letter in his hand to him and said

"Your Highness, There is a letter from the border."

Regan’s frown went deep when he heard this and he took the letter from Elias. After opening the letter, when he read it, his face didn’t look good.

This made Evelyn worry but she could only look at Elias and her master wondering what exactly was written inside it.

While Elias who saw that his master had finished reading, finally asked

"Your Highness, when are we leaving?"

However, what he got in return was a very cold look.

"Who said that we are going?"

Regan stopped amidst his words when he realized that Evelyn was there. He didn’t want her to see him angry so he said calmly yet in an indifferent voice.

"I have been handling them for years. Should not he now give a chance to his other sons as well?"

Elias didn’t have anything to say on hearing this.

It was actually true.

Whenever it came to fighting on the borders, it was always his master who was put in the front against those enemies.

Yet, when he went to Alfaros he didn’t even receive the grand welcome he deserved for fighting for his Empire.

However, Elias didn’t know that Regan’s thoughts differed from his. Whatever it was, Regan didn’t want to go to the border.

Hence, Regan kept the letter aside, dismissed Elias, and continued reading the book as if nothing ever happened.

However, Evelyn was now lost in her own thoughts and Regan was not also completely focused on the book.

Almost half an hour later, Rex suddenly entered the chambers. There was no playfulness on his face as he looked at Regan who was reading the book.

His eyes went to Evelyn who looked at him once but lowered her head soon.

In the end, he called out Regan’s name.

"Regan, we need to talk."

And hence, a few moments later, Regan and Rex were inside Rex’s chambers.

"Did you receive the letter?"

Rex asked and Regan only hummed in answer. Then a moment later, he finally said indifferently

"I am not going."

The words made Rex look at Regan in surprise.

"What? Why?"

Hearing the silence in return, Rex exhaled sharply. He was silent for a moment before he asked

"Is it because of Evelyn?"
