Chapter 51: [Bonus Chapter] Evelyn Is Hurt
"Your Highness! Be careful."
The shout fell in Regan’s ears and his red eyes went wide as he recognized the voice in less than a moment.
What was she doing here?
Regan immediately stabbed the man who was left and turned around to handle the one in behind but he was still late by a second.
Evelyn had already walked in front of him when he turned around and the sword that should have fallen on him, instead stabbed her shoulder.
"Evelyn!"
Regan’s shouted immediately as he heard her painful groan. His hand went around her waist to hold her and with another hand, he blocked the sword which was about to stab her again.
His red eyes promised death to the man who looked ready to attack Evelyn again.
How dare he!
The man’s eyes went wide when a sword stabbed his chest. It was an unexpected move and he was looking at Regan in shock as he slid down to the floor and lay dead there.
Rex and Elias had also seen Evelyn so they surrounded Regan when they saw other men attacking him again.
Regan finally looked down at the girl in his arms. His heart sank when he turned her slightly only to see her completely unconscious.
"Evelyn..."
He called out her name as he patted her cheek gently.
"Evelyn...wake up."
But she didn’t even seem to hear him. Her face was going deathly pale making Reagan scared.
When he saw how blood was soaking her dress nonstop, Regan’s eyes were filled with panic and fear and he went blank.
"Regan!"
It was Rex’s shout that brought him out of his trance.
"Huh?"
He whispered as he looked at Evelyn’s pale face. Rex was fighting with men as he shouted
"She is bleeding. Take her inside. I will manage here."
Regan would have never left Rex like this. He had never done so on the battlefield before regardless of how hurt he was.
But today, he didn’t oppose Rex.
He nodded his head blankly, particularly to no one, and carried Evelyn in his arms.
Rex and Elias made a wall in front of him as he walked towards the corridor to go towards his chambers.
As he walked, he didn’t even dare to look down at her face again for fear that he would lose his composure again if he saw how pale she was. But the smell of blood only got stronger as he carried her to his chambers.
He started to walk faster but suddenly he heard a whimper from the girl in his arms and he immediately looked down at her.
"Evelyn..."
Evelyn opened her green eyes a little but they were filled with tears. It could be seen that she was feeling immense pain because of the wound.
Regan felt a twinge of pain in his chest when he saw her like this. He felt as if he could feel her pain.
He walked slower fearing that she would feel more pain if he walked faster. For a moment, he didn’t dare to move his eyes away from her as if he was afraid that she would vanish.
"Don’t worry...It will not hurt soon. I will apply the ointment for you."
His voice was very soft and gentle but he didn’t know whether he was trying to comfort himself or Evelyn.
When they reached the chambers, he laid her down on the bed carefully and immediately walked to his closet.
When he returned to the bed, he had the big bottle of ointment in his hand.
Evelyn’s eyes were slightly opened but she felt everything blur in front of her eyes.
"Evelyn, I need to remove your dress."
She heard the prince’s voice. But she didn’t know what she was supposed to say.
"It hurts..."
She whispered as fresh tears rolled down her eyes.
It hurt more than it had ever hurt before. She had always feared pain. But her life had written pain for her at almost every juncture.
Evelyn didn’t regret what she did.
But she couldn’t bear the pain. It was better to die on one go than go through the pain. She used to think the same in the past whenever she felt it was difficult to bear the pain when she felt that the terrors of her past were very difficult to overcome and it was difficult to continue living.
However, whenever she would think of ending her life, a gentle voice would float in her ears reminding those words
’Evelyn, I want you to live a very long and happy life. Promise me that you will complete my wish.’
These words would force her to bear the pain calmly.
She sobbed as the face of the boy who had said these words to her flashed in front of her.
But she was tired.
Could she break her promise?
A hand stroked her hair suddenly bringing her out of her thoughts.
"It will be fine."
The gentle voice made Evelyn at peace.
Regan’s heart ached when he saw her tears. He didn’t hesitate any more and took out the dagger from his sleeve. He cut her clothes carefully so that he would be able to apply the ointment.
But when he saw the deep wound, his heart sank again. It was a deep wound.
The ointment would not be of much help. She needed a doctor.
But where was he going to find a doctor when the situation inside the castle was like this!
He breathed deeply as he stood up and took the water from the table.
Cleaning the wound, he applied the ointment and then tied a cloth around it. But when he looked at Evelyn again, he panicked to see that she was unconscious again.
"Evelyn..."
He called out her name but she didn’t wake up.
Regan’s expression went grim when he realized that the wound had started bleeding again. In just a few moments, the cloth he had tied had started to turn red again.
He needed to do something.
Regan thought for a moment before he suddenly walked to his closet and then to his balcony.
Inside the balcony, he started to play the flute.
His eyes were closed and his cape flew because of the wind as the melodious sound of his flute was carried away by air.
But in front of Regan’s eyes, only Evelyn’s pale face was flashing again and again.
After so many years, he had found one person who could make him feel alive. Could God be cruel to even snatch that person from him?
