Chapter 47: Rex’s Suspicions Regarding Evelyn
When Regan continued to look at Evelyn with his deep red eyes, she was waiting for him to say something.
But when he didn’t speak for a long time, she felt anxious and said
"Your Highness, I know that I am still new and Your Highness can’t trust me so easily but I would still want to assure Your Highness that I would never stab a person’s back who is feeding me and giving me clothes to wear."
Evelyn’s throat was somewhat clogged with emotions and she stopped speaking after these few words.
Her eyes unconsciously started to fill with tears and she swiftly lowered her head so that no one would see them and like that she continued after taking a deep breath.
"Your Highness, I am very loyal to Your Highness. That letter to Soldier Henry didn’t mean anything. I was just scared to see Your Highness there and I passed the letter to him as I couldn’t think of anything. If Your Highness wishes....Your Highness can investigate..."
"Stop!"
Regan stopped Evelyn firmly.
So she thought that he doubted her intentions when she gave a letter to Henry...just because she was from Zamorin.
He looked at her lowered head and noticed her red nose. Was she crying?
There were no tears on her cheeks. He remembered how pale her face was when she had entered the chambers.
She must be scared.
"I didn’t doubt your intentions, Evelyn."
He suddenly wanted to assure her. He never doubted her intentions. She didn’t need to be so scared.
But when Evelyn asked him
"Then why did Your Highness take the letter from soldier Henry?"
Regan suddenly didn’t have any answer. He opened his mouth to say something but not a single word came out.
Indeed, if he didn’t doubt Evelyn’s intentions, why was he so concerned about a letter?
Seeing that he didn’t say anything, Evelyn was sure that her master was just trying to assure her.
She remembered how he refused to even have the dish she had made. Though she felt slightly upset.
The thought that he was trying to assure her still made her feel warm inside her heart. Even now, the prince was so considerate.
"I can understand Your Highness. I am from Zamorin. It is not easy for Your Highness to trust me."
She said firmly regardless of how upset she felt inside her heart. Regan frowned at her words.
However, he didn’t have anything to say.
On the other hand, Rex who was now standing inside the chambers had not expected that Evelyn had looked at this matter from this point of view.
At first, he sighed helplessly as he thought that Evelyn was as dumb as his brother.
Both people needed his help.
But when Evelyn continued talking, his expression suddenly went somber.
He was no longer laughing and his face was somber as he looked at Evelyn and asked
"You are from Zamorin?"
Evelyn turned to look at Rex when she heard his question.
Seeing his rare serious expression, she realized that he didn’t know this before. Though she was afraid that the prince would doubt her, she still nodded her head honestly and said
"Yes, Your Highness."
Rex’s eyes narrowed and his forehead had a deep frown. He wanted to ask more questions but one look from Regan and he shut his mouth with a sigh.
Regan was keeping this girl by her side even after knowing that she was from Zamorin.
Rex had not expected this.
He looked at Evelyn’s calm expression.
She didn’t seem to be a person who would harm his brother. But he would still want to ensure that she was not that kind of person.
After all, appearances could be deceptive as well.
He needed to investigate her past.
If she didn’t have anything suspicious then it would be better...otherwise he would not know what he would do.
But he would do anything to keep his brother safe.
It was a weird sound that brought the people out of their thoughts. The three men looked at Evelyn whose face suddenly bright red.
Evelyn put her hand on her stomach and suddenly wanted to bury herself in the same spot.
It was so embarrassing.
In the past, she had the habit of staying hungry but now that she had started to have timely meals, her stomach would start growling with hunger if she missed even a single meal.
Now it was almost nighttime and they had missed their lunch. Hence, she was feeling slightly hungry.
But what was the need to make sounds like this!
Regan’s eyes were filled with amusement as he saw her trying to bury her head lower and lower like a rabbit.
"Did you not have your lunch?"
His voice was slightly soft when he asked her and Evelyn only shook her head in ’no’ as she was too embarrassed to speak.
Regan felt more amused to see her behavior. But he coughed lightly to stop the laughter that was threatening to erupt out of his mouth and said to Elias
"Go and bring the meal."
Elias was also hungry and immediately followed his master’s order.
Since Rex was also here, he decided to have dinner with the three of them.
Evelyn accompanied Elias as she was too embarrassed to stay there. Regan didn’t stop her, knowing her thoughts very well.
However, when Evelyn and Elias brought the trays, his lips were pressed in a thin line.
He looked at Evelyn who was putting the plates on the tables from the tray and said
"Bring the dish you made for lunch."
Evelyn froze when she heard his words. She looked at him silently for a few moments before she noticed the deep frown on Prince Rex’s forehead. A moment later, she said calmly
"Your Highness, I threw it away."
Regan frowned instantly. He looked into Evelyn’s eyes for a few moments before he nodded his head and started the dinner silently.
Evelyn sighed in relief.
The dinner finished peacefully.
After everyone was done, Evelyn picked up the empty trays and left the chambers to put them inside the kitchen.
There were not many people inside the kitchen.
She thought that Ami, Hannah, and Miri might be in the back garden. Thinking this, she walked to the table where a bowl was placed covered with a plate.
Evelyn uncovered it.
It was the same dish she had cooked for the prince in lunch.
A sigh escaped her lips as she looked at it.
How could she not know why Prince Rex was frowning when her master mentioned the dish cooked by her!
She was from Zamorin. After Prince Rex knew this, how could he feel comfortable with her master eating anything made by her hands!
She should not cook anything for the prince in the future.
Evelyn thought as she walked towards the small bucket in the corner of the kitchen to throw the dish.
However, when she had just tilted the bowl when a hand caught her wrist and stabilized the bowl again.
