Chapter 45: Rex Realizes His Mistake

Chapter 45: Rex Realizes His Mistake

Evelyn was still lost in her thoughts when suddenly a figure walked out of the balcony and looked at her who was standing in a daze.

"Your Highness!"

Elias exclaimed when he noticed Regan standing a few steps away from him. His exclamation brought Evelyn out of her trance and she looked at Regan in somewhat shock and surprise.

"Your Highness where were you?"

It was still Elias who asked Regan this question.

Regan looked at him with a frown as he answered

"In the balcony."

Balcony...that was the only place she had not searched.

Evelyn felt as if she had just made a fool out of herself.

She couldn’t help but feel slightly flustered as Elias looked at her with a funny smile.

Seeing this interaction, Regan’s frown went deeper and he asked

"Is there something wrong?"

Even before Elias could open his mouth and say anything, Evelyn was fast and said

"Nothing! Nothing is wrong."

Regan was still looking at the duo suspiciously. Feeling slightly nervous under his gaze, Evelyn tried to divert his attention.

"Your Highness, lunch is here."

However, Regan’s frown only went deeper when he heard this and he said coldly.

"I don’t want to have lunch."

He finished saying and walked to the bed and picked any book to read.

Evelyn was surprised.

From how much she had come to know about her master in the past few days, she had realized that her master didn’t have his meals whenever he was not in a good mood.

As much as Evelyn found this childish, she felt worried as well.

What happened today?

She looked at Elias who also seemed to be wondering the same.

Evelyn was silent for a few moments before she walked forward, picked a plate from the tray, and then walked to the bed.

"Your Highness, I made this new dish today. Would Your Highness like to try it?"

Regan did raise his head from the book when he heard her soft voice but when he heard her words and looked at the new dish on the plate, his eyes only went colder.

’Did she give it to Henry also?’

He couldn’t help but think silently. A moment later, he lowered his head in the book again as he said coldly

"No. I don’t want to have it."

Evelyn had not expected him to refuse. She felt utterly confused.

What made him so unhappy? She wondered as she saw how he had such a deep frown on his forehead even while reading the book.

However, she didn’t have any way to find the answer.

In the end, she had to step back.

Since his master didn’t have his lunch, Elias also didn’t want to have any regardless of how hungry he was.

Evelyn also didn’t feel like having lunch, so she had to take the tray back to the kitchen. Her mood was not good for the rest of the day.

The prince didn’t assign her any work but she still didn’t wish to leave the chambers.

Usually, she would feel restless if she would stay idle like this.

She could have gone to the kitchen and found some chore. However, strangely, her heart didn’t allow her to leave the prince alone when he was so unhappy.

For the second time in her life, Evelyn had this strong urge to make someone happy.

She didn’t want to see him like this but ...what could she do when she didn’t even know what made him unhappy!

A frustrated sigh escaped her lips which was heard by the person who was the reason behind it.

Regan raised his head and looked at the girl with the same frown.

She had been standing for so long. He thought as annoyance filled his heart.

He didn’t want to talk to her but at the same time, he wanted to remind her that she should sit now.

It was so complicated.

Just why did she have to like Henry! Why did she write a letter to him and why he was here to see her doing all this?

Regan felt so frustrated with his thoughts that he felt afraid that if Evelyn continued to stand there then he would do something he would regret so he said

"Leave. Go to your room."

Evelyn was startled and said

"Your Highness, I..."

But before she could finish, Regan looked at her strictly and said

"Leave, Evelyn."

Hence, Evelyn had to leave.

On the way to her room, she felt so upset that she felt like crying.

It had been so long since she had cried last when she was not even beaten. She didn’t even know why she had wanted to cry.

She breathed deeply to calm herself down when she suddenly heard a voice.

"Evelyn"

Evelyn raised her head and saw Prince Rex walking towards her. She immediately lowered her head and blinked a few times so that the moisture in her eyes would dry.

By the time Rex reached her she had already composed herself.

However, Rex might be playful, but he was observant as well. He immediately noticed that she looked slightly off. But he never pointed it out.

He was actually going to look for her and ask her about the letter thing but seeing her like this, he decided to talk about something else first.

"Is Regan already done with his dinner? I was just coming to his chambers but got slightly later because of something."

Evelyn who had composed herself remembered again how Regan had refused to have the dish made by her. She blinked again as she answered

"His Highness won’t have dinner, He didn’t have his lunch as well."

Rex looked surprised only for a moment before he understood the matter. Still, he pretended as if he didn’t know anything and said

"Why?"

"I don’t know, Your highness."

Evelyn looked dispirited as she answered.

Rex was silent for a moment as if he seemed to be thinking of something. After a few moments, he finally asked her.

"Evelyn, did you write any letter?"

The sudden question made Evelyn confuse and she shook her head making Rex go blank for a moment.

She didn’t write it.

Then who wrote the letter Regan showed to him!
