The Masked prince -
Chapter 32: The Pitiful Elias
Chapter 32: The Pitiful Elias
After having lunch, Regan asked Evelyn to go back to her room.
This time, Evelyn decided not to defy him. She went to her room to have some rest as she was feeling tired.
She returned an hour later.
She was surprised to hear the melodious sound of a flute that seemed to be coming from the balcony of the prince’s chambers.
Evelyn saw Elias standing at the door of the balcony and she also went there.
She was surprised to see that it was her master who was playing the flute...and he played it so well.
His eyes were closed and though his mask hid his face, she could see that he felt serene and peaceful when he played it.
She only came out of her trance when she heard the loud flap of wings and then a huge shadow covered the balcony.
"Ah...was Your Highness calling it by playing the flute?"
Evelyn guessed when she saw Lavo landing on the balcony as its wings flapped. Though she had seen it before, she couldn’t help but feel mystified by its beauty.
"Yes"
Elias answered Evelyn’s question as he looked at the large creature.
He was shocked when the creature suddenly looked in his direction and growled softly. His eyes were filled with shock, surprise, and joy as he ran towards the creature while saying
"So you finally understand my love for you, ah?"
Elias happily tried to touch the creature’s wings but he was speechless when Lavo threw his hand away and growled at him loudly.
He shivered before he glared at the creature back and saying
"Why did you just growl so seductively now if you didn’t want me to touch you?"
Lavo looked at him with disgust-filled eyes and looked in a certain direction again before he growled softly.
"See...you are doing it again!"
Elias said speechlessly.
Regan looked at Elias wondering when he became so stupid before enlightening him.
"He is not calling you...but for someone else."
As he said this, Regan looked towards Evelyn and when Elias followed his master’s gaze, he was stupefied.
He only watched in a daze when Evelyn stepped forward and touched Lavo’s paw and it even growled so softly like a satisfied cat.
This was betrayal!
Elias couldn’t accept this.
The creature had been tamed by his master when his master was just fifteen. Now even seven years later, it pushed him away whenever he tried to touch it.
He just wanted to touch its wings. Was he asking for more?
His heart was filled with unsaid grievances as he saw Lavo responding to Evelyn’s touch with so much eagerness....Evelyn who had come here just a few days back.
In the end, he could only hold his bleeding heart and decided to follow another path.
’B****d, was it not just a deprived man to respond so eagerly to a girl’s touch?’
He doesn’t want to touch such a fickle creature!
Now it was Elias who looked at Lavo with cold eyes but Lavo was not bothered at all.
In the end, it was his master who was the best.
Elias thought.
Because he was sure that his master would never be swayed by a woman’s charm like this creature. If only he knew!
In the future, one day he would remember his own words and hit his head for being so naive.
"Come here"
Regan called Lavo when he saw the creature had enjoyed enough.
Lavo was unwilling but he still went towards him. Regan took his paw and tied a letter to his feet.
After the letter was tied, he patted Lavo’s leg and said
"Go to the border straight and give them this letter."
His voice was strict when he continued
"Don’t wander around the forest."
Lavo growled in annoyance Regan knew that he understood. After that, the creature gave a glance to Evelyn and growled softly as if bidding her goodbye before it flew away.
.
.
.
There was nothing much to do for Evelyn after Lavo left. She looked at her master who was reading a book and Elias who was sharpening his sword, she wondered what she could do.
A sigh escaped her lips.
Never in her life had she thought that one day she would have to think about what other chore she could do. In the past, she would have so many chores that one day would not look enough to her to complete them.
Regan had sharp ears or perhaps half of his attention was always on the girl who was standing a few steps away.
So he did hear her sigh.
His eyes flashed with amusement when he saw a troubled expression on her face. Her forehead was all wrinkled as she tried hard to think of something.
He thought for a moment and had a guess.
"Bored?"
He asked and Evelyn immediately came out of her thoughts and straightened herself. Remembering that he seemed to have asked her something, she immediately shook her head...and then a moment of later, gave up and nodded honestly.
Elias had also stopped whatever he was doing and looked at her actions.
"Girl...you are bored or not?"
He asked in confusion.
Evelyn felt embarrassed by the question. Fortunately, Elias didn’t continue and she heard her master asking her
"Did you befriend anyone in the castle?"
Evelyn thought for a moment.
Could Hannah be counted as her friend? Perhaps she could.
So she nodded her head and soon heard Regan say
"Then go and spend some time with them since you don’t have anything to do here."
Evelyn looked hesitant. A moment later, she opened her mouth and asked
"Your Highness, Can I clean the chambers?"
However, in response, Regan frowned and said
"Does it look dirty? I don’t think so."
He looked around at the things and then looked at Elias.
"Elias, does it look dirty?"
Elias would of course sing his master’s tune and immediately agreed.
"Yes, Your Highness, the chambers are clean."
Regan nodded his head in satisfaction and looked at Evelyn calmly.
Evelyn thought that that was her cue to leave. So she bent her knees a moment later and took her leave.
After she had left, Regan looked at the layer of dust on the bedside table and a few other things with a deep frown on his forehead. A moment later, he suddenly said
"Elias"
"Yes, Your Highness"
"Clean the chambers."
Elias: "..."
Before this, he never knew that his master was so bipolar.
