Chapter 31: Evelyn Can Cook only For Regan
Chapter 31: Evelyn Can Cook only For Regan
From that afternoon, Evelyn also started to practice with the men Rex and Regan were training.
The sun was high in the sky.
She tried her best to copy the moves that the prince was doing.
However, she still couldn’t do it properly.
Regan had to personally correct her. Surprisingly, Evelyn didn’t feel uncomfortable when Regan’s hand touched her fist to correct her position or he held her arm to point out what she was doing wrong.
She had noticed it before as well.
Perhaps it was because she knew that his intentions were not wrong or she liked that he treated her same as those men who were practicing with her.
Indeed, Regan did the same with the men who were standing in a wrong position.
They practiced the same move for almost an hour. When an hour finished, Evelyn’s face was red and her forehead was covered with sweat.
The men looked no less exhausted but Evelyn looked more exhausted than them.
Still, one of them looked at Evelyn and couldn’t help but say in praise.
"You lasted for more than someone could have thought."
The others agreed with his words. The girl looked so thin so they had thought that she would give up soon but she surprised them with her persistence.
Evelyn realized that he was praising her for continuously practicing with them. She merely nodded her head.
Her arms were actually hurting but the pain was tolerable. She thought that it must be because her arms had gained strength as she had been doing different kinds of daily house chores all her life.
Regan looked at her red face and dismissed her silently. When he saw the hesitancy in the girl’s eyes, his lips twitched in anger and he said
The girl seems to forget that she has a fresh wound!
"It’s enough for today. Tomorrow, you will be allowed to leave at the same time as them."
He pointed to the other men as he said to Evelyn.
Evelyn seemed to realize that Regan was not going to let her stay regardless of anything so she bent her knees before leaving from there.
Regan trained the men for an hour more before he allowed them to leave.
Today was the first day and he wanted them to experience what it was going to be like. Guarding a city’s entrance was no easy task so he was generously giving them a chance not to come back again if they were not dedicated.
After they left, he was walking in the corridor with Elias and Rex when Rex said
"For the time we are training them, we should call some soldiers from the border to guard the city."
Regan nodded his head.
Anyway, the danger had gone now so many soldiers were not needed on the border now. So he accepted the idea and said
"I will send a letter to the border today."
Rex didn’t have any problem with this. He left to his own chambers and Regan to his own.
The masked prince sighed when he found Evelyn in his chambers. Though he had expected that she would not be resting, he still felt slightly helpless to see her there.
She was very stubborn.
But he couldn’t even scold her because somewhere he knew that Evelyn was just trying...she was trying to become as good as a slave could be...as if she was afraid that she would be sold away by him.
In all this, he could only wait for her to understand that she didn’t need to try so hard.
He saw how her green eyes brightened when she saw him. He liked that thought a part of him knew the reason was completely different. And he was curious to know this reason.
She thoughtfully poured some water for him as well as for Elias.
"Your Highness, the lunch is ready. Should I bring it?"
Evelyn asked after Regan had seated down on the bed.
"Yes"
Regan nodded his head as he walked towards the bathroom after drinking the water. Before getting inside, he looked at the girl who seemed to be flying on her way and his eyes narrowed.
Was she excited?
A few moments later, when Elias had also returned after having a small bath, Evelyn had also served lunch. The three of them sat together like every day and started to have lunch.
Regan raised his hand to pick the plate to serve some food on his plate. As he did that, he noticed Evelyn’s move of pushing a plate toward him.
His eyes went to the plate and he frowned in confusion seeing the dish on it. He had not seen it before.
He looked at the girl again who was avoiding his eyes and picked up the plate after putting the first one down.
His red eyes couldn’t help but fill up with amusement when he saw how her green eyes were full of anticipation as he chewed the dish.
"Mm...it is good."
He said finally not having the heart to let her wait any longer.
Evelyn’s eyes widened slightly because of happiness though her lips were still pressed in a thin line as if she was trying to hide her joy.
It made Regan frown slightly as he suddenly realized that he had seen Evelyn smile very rarely. In fact, he never saw her full smile.
He remembered when he had given her salary, she was clearly very happy as well as excited. She had smiled but it was merely a small tilt of lips.
Even he smiled rarely but it was only because he never had many reasons to smile he had realized that in the past few days he had been more expressive than he had ever been in the past.
"Is it so? I made it after a very long time so I was not sure if it will be good."
Regan nodded his head at the question putting aside his thoughts for now.
But he also leaned against the chair with one hand on the table as he asked the girl
"You cooked?"
The excitement disappeared from Evelyn’s eyes and she looked slightly nervous when she saw his expressionless face.
Was he angry?
He had asked her not to do anything he didn’t assign to her but she went ahead and dared to cook. Now when she thought about this, even Evelyn didn’t know from where she got this courage.
"I...I wanted to cook for Your Highness."
Evelyn didn’t notice but Regan’s eyes did soften for a moment when he heard it before he asked her coldly
"Do you like to cook?"
She was silent for a moment before she nodded her head and said
"Yes!"
She had always liked to cook unfortunately, in Zamorin not many nobles liked to eat the food cooked by slaves. They treated slaves as dirty things who should not even be allowed to touch their food.
Alfaros was better in this aspect. Evelyn thought as she remembered a few slaves working in the Royal kitchen.
Regan picked up the fork again when he heard this.
He stabbed the dish to have another bite before he said calmly
"If you like it, you can cook once in a while."
But only for me.
He didn’t say the last few words but expressed them calmly by taking the dish into his own hands when Elias was about to pick up the plate.
Elias who had wanted to taste the dish made by Evelyn saw his master serving the whole dish on his whole plate and felt slightly confused at such behavior.
A moment later, he smiled awkwardly and silently took another plate.
Regan was very satisfied to see this.
