Evelyn was walking across the corridor wondering if she should really go to meet Hannah.
Hannah might be busy doing her own chores inside the kitchen. However, a few moments later she was surprised to come across Hannah.
The girl was hiding behind a wall and she seemed to be constantly peeking at something silently. She also saw how her shoulders were trembling from time to time.
Was she crying?
The thought made Evelyn worried and she immediately walked towards Hannah.
"Hannah"
She called out and Hannah swiftly turned around to look at her with wide eyes.
Hannah’s face was pale and she put her finger on her own lips signing Evelyn not to talk. Evelyn was confused to see her panicking so much.
She saw how Hannah peeked across the wall again. It made Evelyn curious to know what she was looking at.
So she also leaned sideways a little only to see two guards standing on the other end of the corridor which was on the other side of the wall.
Hannah sighed in relief when she turned to look at Evelyn, however, she straightened Evelyn when she saw her leaning.
After that, she held Evelyn’s hand and dragged her away from there.
Even when they had come very far away, Hannah didn’t seem to stop so it was Evelyn who held her arm firmly to stop her.
"Hannah."
Hannah was breathing heavily when she stopped walking.
"Fortunately, he didn’t see us..."
She sighed in relief as she whispered more likely to herself. It was the first time, Evelyn was seeing her like this. Hannah had always been a very vibrant and bright girl for her.
But at this moment, she looked so scared and full of panic.
"Are you alright?"
Evelyn couldn’t stop herself from asking.
And finally, Hannah smiled again as if to assure her friend.
"Yes, Yes. What can happen to me!"
Evelyn was relieved to see her smile. But then she looked at Hannah with a serious expression as she asked
"What were you doing there?"
Hannah’s cheeks went red immediately and she avoided Evelyn’s eyes as she lied
"Nothing."
"Ohh..."
Evelyn whispered.
She actually had a guess inside her heart but if Hannah didn’t want to tell her then she wouldn’t probe.
She was about to leave when Hannah suddenly stopped her and turned her around.
Hannah looked around as if to see if anyone was in their surroundings. When she saw that there was no one, she leaned closer to Evelyn’s ear and whispered
"Those men...in the guard’s clothes...did you see him?"
Evelyn nodded her head, remembering two guards in the corridor.
"The one ...who was standing on the left, his name is Henry."
Hannah’s cheeks were completely red as she told her friend. She was sharing something she had kept hidden in her heart with someone for the first time.
But Evelyn was also coming across such a situation for the first time. Perhaps that’s why she looked so confused and asked
"So?"
Hannah blinked, raised her head, and looked at Evelyn with a blank expression on her face. A moment later, she pouted and looked as if she was about to cry but was trying her best not to do so. She sighed and whispered
"Nothing. Leave it."
However, Evelyn mistook Hannah’s miserable expression for something else completely. She suddenly held Hannah’s hand firmly as he asked her in a very serious voice.
"Did he do something to you? Hannah...did he try to harass you?"
She looked at Hannah’s wide eyes that were filled with shock and her heart softened as she tried to assure her.
"Hannah, don’t worry. We will go to His Highness. He would not let that man go and he will give you justice."
It was only when Hannah realized that Evelyn was indeed trying to drag her to the prince’s chambers, did she come out of her shock and held Evelyn firmly.
"Evelyn...Evelyn, it is nothing like that."
Hannah felt helpless when she saw Evelyn’s doubtful face and tried to assure her.
"Believe me."
She had to put her shyness aside now and say honestly
"I like that man."
Her cheeks again started to gain a shade of red color as she said in almost a whisper
"It has been two years now since I admire him....I was just looking at him while hiding behind the wall."
Evelyn looked stupefied when she heard the truth.
She opened and closed her mouth but didn’t have anything to say.
On the other hand, Hannah felt that everything was so funny. She looked at Evelyn with a somewhat amused smile and asked
"Why did the first thing that came to your mind was this, Evelyn?"
Evelyn went stiff when she heard the question. Her face went slightly pale as a few memories from the past flashed in front of her eyes.
But she composed herself and whispered
"I apologize."
Hannah waved her hand indicating that it was nothing to apologize for. Then a moment later, she suddenly leaned and whispered
"Don’t tell anyone about this."
Evelyn immediately nodded her head. Who could she even tell?
Hannah was assured. She smiled brightly and suddenly stepped forward to hug Evelyn tightly.
The hug was too sudden for Evelyn. She didn’t remember when she had been hugged by someone like this last.
For a moment, she felt very strange and awkward. And hence, she couldn’t return the hug before Hannah stepped away.
After this incident, Hannah asked Evelyn what she was doing there.
When she came to know that Evelyn was free and was feeling bored, Hannah smiled brightly and suddenly dragged her to the kitchen.
When they were inside the kitchen, Evelyn saw two maids there sitting and playing some kind of game.
She was surprised to see that they were allowed to play in their free time.
"Evelyn, this is Miri. This is Ami."
Hannah introduced Evelyn to the two maids.
"And this Evelyn."
She looked at the two girls who were looking at Evelyn from top to bottom.
Evelyn was also looking at Miri and Ami who were now standing.
Miri was short in height while Ami looked tall. She also saw that Ami had a scar on her neck that caught everyone’s eye at the first glance.
"Was it you who got injured in the morning?"
Miri suddenly stepped forward and asked Evelyn as she looked at the wound on her temple.
"Yes"
Evelyn told them calmly.
Miri and Ami shook their heads while Ami said
"Those traders are bloodsuckers. For so many years they have exploited people and now when they are losing on huge profits, they are unable to digest."
Evelyn didn’t say anything but she looked at Miri and Ami who looked completely satisfied with whatever was happening.
It made her wonder if they and their families have also not been left out of those traders’ exploitation.
