Chapter 284: Alexandria Doesn’t Wish To Marry

Rex stepped inside Derrick’s chambers and saw his seated on his chair.

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

He said with an emotionless expression on his face.

Derrick looked at him and grunted in acknowledgment.

Without any further exchange, he said directly for what he had called Rex in his chambers.

"I want you to marry soon. You should be at least engaged before your coronation ceremony as the next legal heir."

Rex frowned when he heard these words.

Marriage...he had not thought about marriage yet.

"I don’t want to marry for now."

He said calmly but Derrick’s eyes went cold when he heard this. He looked at his elder son and said authoritatively.

"Rex, this week, you still have the chance to choose a girl you like. If you didn’t get engaged within this week, then it would be the nobles in court who will take this matter into their hands."

Rex’s frown went deeper when he heard this.

Because he knew that Derrick was right.

Derrick’s marriage with Diana happened in the same way.

Though Derrick was married to Rex’s mother, Eugine already. The nobles pressurized him to accept Diana when the war could be averted by a marriage.

If he was not married, then they would certainly interfere in his marriage’s matters.

When Derrick saw that he was not saying anything, he continued speaking

"I have called the Minister of Revenue with his daughter today. She seems suitable to me for you. He is a new minister and doesn’t hold much power so she would be a good candidate to become the queen. See her today and then think about it. I won’t force you. You can choose a girl you like but you need to choose within a week."

Rex was still not certain regarding this matter but he didn’t get much say in it as soon a Royal Guard came and informed them that the Minister of Revenue was here.

"Allow them inside."

Ordered Derrick and the Royal Guard left after that.

Rex stared ahead with blank eyes wondering what he was supposed to do in such circumstances.

He had not been sure about taking the throne.

He had always considered that Regan was going to become the next ruler. That night, when Regan proposed that he becomes the ruler, he was angry.

He didn’t want to prove what Derrick had said.

He never wanted the throne but now it seemed as if he was taking the throne from his brother. The guilt however reduced to a great extent when he realized how his one step was able to save the relationship that mattered to Regan a lot.

He realized that if he didn’t take the throne Evelyn would leave his brother and he would also lose his brother.

But marriage was still something that he had not thought about.

He didn’t know if he was ready to let someone in his life when he was going to see so many changes after becoming a legal heir.

Rex came out of his thoughts when he heard voices.

"Greetings, Your Majesty.

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

There were two voices that greeted Derrick and the last one caught Rex’s attention.

It didn’t take him even a more than second to recognize Alexandria who stood beside his father and curtsied while greeting Derrick.

He knew that the man was the Minister of Revenue then did it mean that the girl standing by his side was his daughter?

Derrick acknowledged the greetings and then looked at Rex who was only looking at Alexandria.

He nodded his head in satisfaction.

He had heard that the daughter of the Minister of Revenue was very beautiful and had expected that Rex would like her.

Fortunately, it was true.

The Minister of Revenue also raised his head and looked at Rex before greeting him.

"Greetings, Your Highness."

It was only then Alexandria realized that there was one more person inside the room. Her head was lowered before which she raised this time and was shocked to see Rex.

Rex enjoyed the expression on her face with mirth-filled eyes. He had been wondering what about Alexandria he liked so much that he found himself so smitten.

He had seen his own share of beauties in his life.

But it was Alexandria’s eyes that caught his attention.

They were fearless and filled with honesty. They made her look like a spitting fireball.

It was only when the Minister of Revenue pulled Alexandria’s hand that she lowered her head and greeted Rex.

"Greetings, Your Highness"

Rex imagined her anger-filled eyes as she greeted him and wanted to laugh out aloud but stopped himself.

He hummed in acknowledgment and looked at Derrick who said

"Rex, bring Lady Alexandria to the garden. I have something to talk about with the Minister of Revenue."

Rex obliged quite happily.

He led Alexandria outside the chambers and then towards the garden.

As soon as they stepped inside the garden, Alexandria stopped the pretense of a calm, virtuous lady and glared at Rex.

Rex couldn’t even tell how much he liked it.

He had seen many noble ladies who stayed calm and composed and to him...having such a wife was very boring.

He wanted a girl who would be honest with her opinions, who could speak out her opinions instead of agreeing with him like a virtuous wife that books claimed they should be.

"Can I ask something from Your Highness?"

Alexandria said with gritted teeth. Her eyes were still filled with anger and frustration.

Rex nodded his head immediately and she continued speaking

"Have I been called by His Majesty for a marriage proposal?"

"Yes"

Rex said calmly but with a smile on his lips.

Alexandria narrowed her eyes when she heard the answer and asked again

"To whom?"

Rex looked at her with raised eyebrows. She looked as if she was ready to kill the man as soon as he answered.

He bit the inside of his cheek before he answered with a playful smile

"It is me."

Alexandria who was folding his sleeve as if ready to find and beat the man froze when she heard the answer.
