The Masked prince -
Chapter 28: The Other Side Of Regan
Chapter 28: The Other Side Of Regan
The crowd dispersed and the unconscious head of the trader was taken inside the castle’s prison by the guards at Elias’ words.
Regan had already returned to the chambers with wounded Evelyn.
He was holding his handkerchief on her wound tightly so that blood would not flow much. When inside the chambers, he made her sit on the bed and said in a hurried voice.
"Here hold it!"
Evelyn was actually wondering if she should continue to sit on the bed or not. But Regan didn’t give her much chance to her to ponder on this.
She felt actually surprised to sense the hurry and panic in his voice and immediately held the cloth on her forehead.
Then she saw him walking towards the closet and taking out the small bottle. Evelyn recognized the bottle this time. It was the same bottle that had that rare ointment that could make the pain disappear within a few minutes.
However, when Regan was about to open the bottle, she immediately stopped him.
"Your Highness, there is no need for this. I am fine."
Since the ointment was so magical, Evelyn knew that it must be very costly. A few days back, Prince Rex had eagerly grabbed a bottle from her, so she knew that it must be rare.
Such a rare ointment...Evelyn didn’t wish to waste it on her small wound.
However, Regan looked at her sharply and ordered with his index finger
"Sit down on the bed!"
Evelyn blinked seeing his expression and the next moment, sat down obediently.
Regan opened the bottle and took some cotton.
When he kneeled down Evelyn’s eyes widened and she had wanted t get up or stop him somehow, however, Regan looked at her with raised eyebrows. His eyes behind his mask were silently indicating for her to continue sitting on the bed.
Hence, Evelyn didn’t dare to move or say anything.
Regan poured the ointment on the cotton and then carefully removed the handkerchief from Evelyn’s wound.
When he was about to apply the ointment, he couldn’t help but stop for a moment.
Looking at the girl who was looking at him and the ointment bottle with green eyes with pain, he sighed.
How could he not know her thoughts?
After these few days, Regan had somewhat started to understand his new slave. Her heart especially ached for almost everything when they were used on her.
He needed to correct this habit of hers.
But for now, he needed to apply this ointment to her wound.
"It will hurt..."
His voice was not cold as he warned her.
Evelyn blinked before she understood that he was trying to warn her and then whispered immediately
"It’s alright."
Regan nodded and finally dabbed her wound with the cotton gently.
He saw how Evelyn closed her eyes because of the pain but she didn’t even hiss.
The pain was there but it was nothing more than the pain Evelyn had endured before.
For her, it was actually a very small wound.
And seeing her like this, Regan naturally could guess it. His red eyes couldn’t help but go cold when he thought this.
He didn’t know if he should be relieved to see that Evelyn didn’t think that the pain was much for her or feel upset while pondering what all she had gone through to think that this pain was less.
His trance was broken when he heard her soft whisper
"That man...is he alive?"
Regan’s cold red eyes matched Evelyn’s green eyes which were filled with concern. That concern made him angry.
Was this girl stupid?
"He threw a stone at you, Evelyn ...and he also called you a ..."
Regan didn’t finish his words but one who witnessed the whole incident could read the unsaid words.
"I know."
Evelyn said calmly as she remembered the man’s harsh insults.
She sighed seeing the furious Regan.
"I am not saying that I am not angry. I was just trying to help others so I was not at fault."
Her voice was firm and calm when she said these words and it somehow calmed down the furious Regan.
It was good if she thought this.
"But..."
Evelyn stopped for a moment to think before she continued
"Your Highness should not have hit that man."
Evelyn’s voice was filled with apprehension as she looked at Regan after finishing her words. Her heart was filled with relief when she saw that he didn’t look angry at her words.
Regan was looking at her with narrowed eyes but he didn’t seem to be angry.
Relieved, she continued
"Your Highness has just returned to Mazic. Mazic’s people are silently comparing Your Highness with Your Highness’ Mother."
Evelyn paused to collect her thoughts again. In the past few days, she had come to know enough from other maids. She knew that before her master, his mother ruled Mazic alone and her master has returned to Mazic after a long time.
That’s why she was worried.
She sighed as she whispered
"If something really happened to the man Your Highness hit, then there is a high chance that people will stand against Your Highness...especially the traders that are looking for an opportunity. There will be rumors and..."
Regan was watching her all the time she was talking.
She didn’t notice but his red eyes were filled with a strange intensity when he realized that she was concerned for him.
She was concerned that people under him will try to defy him.
"I don’t care."
He said three words nonchalantly, interrupting Evelyn amidst her words as he checked the wound again.
Evelyn silently looked at his face which she could see only half.
She saw how his lips moved when he said
"If they dislike my ways then they can leave...but if they want to stay in Mazic, they need to follow my rules."
Saying these words, Regan looked into Evelyn’s eyes before he continued calmly but firmly
"And according to my rule, the one who violates the rule and harms my people, I never give them the chance to do the same again."
And again, Evelyn could only look at him in a daze.
In the past few days, she had heard rumors about him. She knew what people thought of him. She understood why those slaves in the Royal Palace were afraid to take the meals to Prince’s room.
For them, he was cruel, merciless, and a hot-tempered prince.
But to her, he was nothing but a protective, righteous, and the most generous person she had ever met.
Either she had illusions or everyone else was wrong!
Or perhaps they have never seen this side of the prince...the side which she could see.
