The Masked prince -
Chapter 27: The Furious Regan
Chapter 27: The Furious Regan
In front of the castle’s gates, many people could be seen standing with a furious expression on their faces. They were talking about the letter by Prince Regan that had been read to them by his men a few moments ago.
It could be seen clearly that they didn’t like the prince’s demand.
"Look...the castle’s gate is opening."
One of them shouted and everyone saw the huge gate moving slowly. And then it opened again.
The castle gate was kept open usually but since there was a crowd in front of the gates, the guards closed the gate fearing that someone would try to invade the castle.
"It is the prince!"
Whispers started amidst the crowd when people noticed a man wearing a cape and noble clothes with his face covered with a mask.
There was no doubt that he was Prince Regan, the son of their former Princess Regina who ruled them after her father’s death.
Regan looked at the traders coldly. Behind him, stood Evelyn and Elias.
Rex decided not to accompany them and went to meet the men that Elias has gathered to train to guard the city’s important places.
Regan’s eyes fell on one of the traders who was looking at him with his eyes wide. It was the same shopkeeper to whose shop he had gone as an ordinary man.
He glanced at the shopkeeper coldly and the shopkeeper immediately lowered his head understanding that he was to behave as if he was not present at all.
"Your Highness"
One of the men stepped forward and bowed his head politely.
He had been standing in front of everyone and it seemed that he was the one who was leading all these traders.
Regan hummed acknowledging his greeting and asked coldly
"I would like to hear your reasons for not accepting the castle’s orders."
The head must have many things to say as he immediately started when Regan finished
"Your Highness, if we did what Your Highness is saying then there is a great chance that we will face huge losses. Your Highness, we have our wives and children, our parents to take care of. It would affect our families. It would be better to leave the prices of the commodities on the market itself."
A cold smile graced Regan’s lips when he heard the trader’s words.
"Leave on the market..."
He whispered coldly and continued
"The market which you and your allies are controlling for your selfish gains."
Many faces amidst the crowd went pale when traders heard Regan’s words. The head of the traders didn’t look less shocked but he soon composed himself and asked with a purely confused face
"What is Your Highness trying to imply?"
Regan’s red eyes only went colder at his pretense.
He ignored him and looked at the traders who looked scared.
"You people gather and decide the price on your own every season. When to buy, at what price to buy, at what price to sell...are you trying to fool the castle and its authority by talking about market forces?"
Regan had investigated the matter very deeply.
How could the prices in the market become such a mess! It was all a well-thought strategy to gain more by exploiting others.
The traders didn’t even dare to look into the prince’s eyes when they realized that he knew everything.
However, their head was still thinking that Regan didn’t know everything and tried to manage the situation.
"Your Highness, it seems that Your Highness has been given some wrong information. We are..."
"Shut up!"
Regan’s sharp and cold voice made the head of traders flinch and he didn’t dare to open his mouth again.
The area was silent and not a single whisper could be heard. All the trades were standing there with their heads bowed.
After a moment of silence, Regan continued
"Mazic didn’t have anyone to manage things before and you people took great advantage of this. Now it is a long time since you accept the castle’s order and take the right path. Otherwise, the castle’s prison is open for anyone ...or everyone."
The utter silence seemed to be an agreement with the prince’s words.
When Regan saw that no one was raising their heads, he thought that they understood.
"Leave!"
He said coldly before he turned around to leave.
However, just as he turned around, he saw a stone flying past him. Regan moved his hand swiftly but he was not fast enough to stop the stone.
"Hissss..."
Evelyn sucked the air sharply as she felt the sudden pain in her temple.
Regan’s red eyes shone with a glint of coldness as he looked at the blood that trickled down her forehead.
"You b****h, we know that it is you who gave this idea to His Highness. Go and rot in hell!"
The harsh words fell in his ears and his fists clenched tightly.
Elias’ sword was already out and he looked at the man who had thrown the stone.
It was none other than the head of the traders.
He was about to move forward to control the man when he saw the man bending down to pick another stone but his eyes widened when he saw his master suddenly turning around.
Regan only saw red when he saw another stone in the man’s hand...the stone which was larger than the previous one.
His fist swung in the air and fell on the man who was about to stand up.
"Ahhh..."
A painful shout escaped the man’s lips before he lost his balance and fell down to the ground.
His body didn’t move at all and the blood was flowing out of his nose and mouth.
The crowd of traders went into chaos when they saw the unconscious man lying on the floor. They looked at the prince in fear before they ran away from there as fast as they could.
The rumors were true in the end.
Prince Regan didn’t see anything when he was angry.
