Chapter 272: A Bittersweet Dinner

Chapter 272: A Bittersweet Dinner

After returning to her room, Evelyn called Ezra and asked him for help.

"What is My Lady saying? I am always ready to serve My Lady."

Ezra said because he didn’t like Evelyn using the word ’help’. Evelyn smiled and told him about Peri.

She wanted Ezra to find out where Peri was sold and then free her.

"You can also ask her about this. She might remember it."

Evelyn said and Ezra nodded his head.

"It will be done, My Lady."

He bowed his head before he left the room.

Later that evening, Evelyn continued her sword practice. She only stopped when a maid came and informed her that Regan and Rex were back.

Isla smiled seeing how eagerly she put aside the sword and ran to the living room.

"My Lady, be careful."

She called out in concern before following Evelyn.

In the living room, Regan smiled when he saw Evelyn walking towards him. He could see the eagerness in her eyes. Was it for him?

Such a welcome...if he could receive it every day, he didn’t mind going to Royal Palace and wasting his breath on those idiots.

When Evelyn approached him, he pulled her near himself holding her hand so naturally as if he was doing this every day. Then with his other hand, he took out his handkerchief and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

"Were you practicing?"

"Yes"

Evelyn whispered in a low voice. Since she had been practicing and then she came running here, her voice was still breathless but it didn’t hide the joy in her eyes on seeing Regan.

On the other hand, Rex felt too much sweetness seeing the pair and walked away leaving them alone.

As much as he liked to see the duo together, it was just too much dog food!

"Your Highness should freshen up. I will ask the maid to serve the dinner."

Evelyn said softly as she took the handkerchief from Regan’s hand with an embarrassed expression on her face. Apparently, she noticed Rex leaving from there and even the servants around them had their heads lowered as they giggled silently.

Regan knew very well that she was embarrassed. He smiled and shamelessly leaned down to kiss her forehead before walking toward his room.

Evelyn smiled as she shook her head in embarrassment. She asked the maid to make arrangements for dinner before she also left to freshen up.

It was still evening but Regan and Rex didn’t return for the lunch as well and Evelyn didn’t know if they had it in the Royal Palace.

But as much as she knew, both the princes didn’t like Royal Palace much and avoided it as much as possible.

So they decided to have dinner already.

It was when she stepped inside the dining room and saw Elias did Evelyn remember that she still had to talk to Regan about Elias.

From what it looked like, Regan was still angry at Elias because he didn’t take the latter with him to Royal Palace.

Seeing Elias’ calm but upset face, Evelyn felt rather guilty. Indirectly, she was responsible for this.

Hence, she decided to talk to the prince tonight only.

Evelyn looked at the dinner arrangements and nodded her head in satisfaction. While doing so she couldn’t help but realize what a big change she had gone through in the past few months!

It was the transition from a slave who possessed very low self-esteem to a mistress of such a huge palace where she managed things confidently.

She was still learning but she learned new things with newfound confidence. She felt that she could do it and she was no different from anyone else.

It was a good feeling.

And all of this was because of only one person.

She smiled when her eyes went to Regan who entered the dining room with Rex.

Both of them sat beside each other.

She liked it when Regan himself picked a plate and served the food for her. She would try to stop him when he would pile up the dishes on her plate one after the other but he would never listen to her.

She liked his care because she had never been cared for by someone else in her life like that.

Her heart was so sweet that Evelyn could not wipe the smile off her lips. Regan was more than happy to see her like that.

Rex who was seated in the front shook her head wondering if he should have had his dinner in his room only because he suddenly felt like an extra person inside the dining room.

However, the sweet atmosphere inside the dining room was interrupted by a voice.

"Evelyn!"

Regan frowned immediately as he raised his head and looked toward Peri.

"What is she doing here?"

He asked coldly and Rex didn’t look any different.

In their eyes, Peri was related to Raphael and anyone related to Raphael was not good news.

Evelyn could sense the two princes’ unhappiness. At the same time, she looked at Peri with a frown. She was going to talk to Regan about Peri after dinner but she had not expected her to appear here like this.

Evelyn composed herself and asked Peri politely

"Do you need anything?"

The smile on Peri’s lips had already stiffened when she saw the two princes looking at her so coldly.

But hearing Evelyn’s question, she gathered her courage and said

"I was feeling hungry so I thought of...."

Evelyn wanted to say that she would ask a maid to send the dinner to Peri’s room. She had already asked the maid to do that when she had allowed Peri to stay but it was still evening so the maid might be waiting for the sun to set.

Evelyn thought of asking the maid to send the dinner now only but before she could say anything, Peri opened her mouth and asked

"If you don’t mind, can I have dinner with you, Evelyn?"

Now Evelyn was put in an awkward position.

She didn’t know how she could say no to Peri. She could only avoid Regan and Rex’s gazes and nod her head though full of reluctance.
