Chapter 271: An Unwelcomed Guest

The next morning, Evelyn asked Isla to call for a tailor.

The tailor came and took Evelyn’s measurements.

As he was writing down the measurements, Evelyn suddenly asked him.

"If I give you a person’s clothes, can you make a set for him without taking his measurements personally?"

The tailor nodded his head immediately.

Evelyn smiled as she went to the closet and took out Regan’s clothes.

She wanted to wear a dress that matched the prince’s clothes that day.

After taking the instructions, the tailor left.

When Evelyn was thinking about what else she needed to do, a maid came and informed her.

"My Lady, there is a woman outside the Palace who claims to be a good friend of My Lady. Should I let her inside or not?"

Evelyn frowned in confusion.

Who could it be?

In the end, she accompanied the maid with Isla.

When she saw the person’s face, she finally realized who it was.

It was none other than Peri.

Peri started crying as soon as she saw Evelyn. On the other hand, Evelyn looked at Peri. Peri’s clothes were torn and stained with mud. There was also blood on the corner of her lips.

She stepped forward and tried to hold Evelyn’s hands but Isla immediately stepped in front of Evelyn to block Peri.

Peri looked at Isla with a deep frown on her forehead and then at Evelyn as she said

"Evelyn!"

She was clearly indicating to Evelyn that Isla should be ordered by her to move away. However, Evelyn pretended as if she didn’t understand what Peri was trying to sign and asked softly

"What happened? Is everything alright?"

Although she was wary of Peri after whatever happened, she could see that Peri needed help. Seeing the blood on her lips, Evelyn could sense that someone abused her.

Peri might not have been sincere to her but Evelyn couldn’t avoid a woman who was in such a state.

Soon, she heard a shout and looked in the direction of the same only to see a man running towards them.

Evelyn frowned when she saw the man who raised his hand to slap Peri after approaching them.

Evelyn immediately pulled Peri behind herself while Isla kicked the man away.

"How daring of you to behave like that in front of Princess Consort!"

The man who was furious at Isla suddenly sobered up and looked at Evelyn. Indeed, seeing the noble clothes on Evelyn, he understood that Isla was not lying.

And he was standing in front of the prince’s palace.

"I apologize, My Lady."

He apologized immediately but soon continued after that.

"My Lady, this woman has been sold to me. She is my slave now but she refuses to follow me. On the way to my home, she suddenly bit me and came running here. That’s why I behaved that way. I apologize if I scared My Lady."

Evelyn looked at the man coldly, not even slightly moved by his apology.

She seemed to have a guess that it was he only who had hit Peri.

On the other hand, Peri clutched Evelyn’s dress. She was trembling fiercely as she said

"Evelyn, save me. I don’t want to go with him. Please...since His Highness is dead they sent away the concubines and consorts with money but I was a slave only so I was sold."

Peri started crying as she recited the events.

She had not thought that she would be treated differently from other concubines. Once the head maid saw the black band on her wrist, she ordered the guards to sell her.

Peri didn’t want to go back to the life of a slave. Though Raphael didn’t treat her very nicely when she was his concubine, she could have three times of meals at least.

"For how much money did you buy her?"

Evelyn asked the man coldly and Peri’s eyes were filled with hope.

The man frowned and answered

"A hundred gold coins."

Evelyn looked at Isla after that who went inside the Palace.

Isla returned with a pouch and threw it to the man as she said

"This the amount. Now leave."

The man wanted to argue but Isla showed him her sword so he shut his mouth and left with a reluctant expression on her face.

As soon as he left, Peri came to stand in front of Evelyn and hugged her tightly.

"Evelyn, thank you so much. I knew that you will help me. So I came running here knowing that you are living here."

Evelyn was surprised because Peri knew much more then she should know.

As a concubine who resided in the Royal Palace, she even knew where Regan’s Palace was. But then she remembered how curious Peri had always been, so she put her thoughts aside.

Pushing Peri slightly away, she smiled politely and said

"You can leave now."

However, Peri’s eyes flashed with panic when she heard Evelyn’s words. Before the latter could turn around, Peri held her hand to stop her and said

"Evelyn, how can you leave me like that!"

Isla frowned at Peri. She didn’t like Peri much. She could sense that this girl was not that simple.

On the other hand, Evelyn looked at Peri patiently only to hear the latter continue.

"I am still a slave. If I left, someone would still abduct me and sold me to someone else."

What Peri said was very reasonable.

But Evelyn didn’t feel much comfortable around Peri after whatever she had witnessed in the banquet.

However, Peri was very persistent.

Since the moment, she had come to know that Evelyn was no longer a slave, she had envied Evelyn. She also wanted to be free. So she suddenly kneeled down even though her heart was full of reluctance and begged Evelyn

"Evelyn, please...can you free me from slavery as well? We have been friends. I don’t want to be a slave any longer and suffer so much."

Evelyn looked at Peri silently.

After a few moments, she looked at Isla and said calmly

"Give her one of the rooms on the first floor."

Isla nodded though she was not certain about Peri. She couldn’t ignore her lady’s orders.

Evelyn left after that while Isla asked a maid to show Peri her room before following Evelyn.

Peri looked at Evelyn’s back with resentment. She didn’t like how Evelyn acted all high and mighty. However, she could only bear it silently.

After all, she needed Evelyn for her own purpose now.
