The Masked prince -
Chapter 26: Meeting the Traders
Chapter 26: Meeting the Traders
After they had finished their breakfast, Elias had thought that his master would go out to meet the traders.
However, he was confused when he saw his master walking towards the bed, picking the same documents he had been reviewing for the past few days, and then sitting down to review them.
Not only, Elias but even Rex and Evelyn were confused.
However, Rex knew his brother very well.
He knew that Regan had his own thoughts.
So he silently walked to one of the chairs and picked a book to read. He would just watch how Regan would manage this matter.
And if he was needed he would also step out to help.
"Here, take this and read it out in front of them."
Regan passed a paper to Elias who took it.
Evelyn felt curious to know what was written on the paper but since she didn’t know how to read or write, she could only suppress her curiosity.
But she didn’t have to wait for long.
Elias left and Rex asked Regan immediately
"What is written in that?"
Regan was looking down at the documents in his hands as he replied calmly
"That either they sell and buy grains at the price decided by the castle or the castle would continue to do what it is doing."
Rex nodded his head feeling that his brother’s words were reasonable.
"But they wouldn’t agree."
Both brothers looked at Evelyn who had just said these words.
Feeling their gazes, Evelyn felt embarrassed as she realized that she said her thoughts aloud.
Though Regan knew this, he felt interested to hear her thoughts so he asked
"Why do you think so?"
Evelyn thought for a moment. When she saw that Regan was genuinely asking her, she answered seriously
"They have lived in riches for so long. Although they would not lose much money by accepting Your Highness’ command, they would still be unwilling. It is difficult for them to accept Your Highness’ demand."
Regan nodded his head.
He knew this and smiled knowingly.
"Then they can just stay under the sun for some time and get to know what those farmers go through whom they exploit."
With his half face covered with the mask, when Regan smiled, it looked cold and sinister regardless of how genuine it was.
However, Evelyn couldn’t look away from the smile for a moment.
She found herself entranced by what he said.
She had not come across many people in her life, who could respect someone for their hard work so much.
Actually, she had not come across anyone like Regan.
Day by day, her respect for her new master was increasing inside her heart.
Evelyn came out of her trance when Elias stepped inside the chambers again with the same letter in his hand.
"Your Highness, they refused."
Regan didn’t even raise his head and hummed lightly.
After that, he didn’t give any orders to Elias or Evelyn. However, Evelyn felt too bored as she stood there idle.
She didn’t have the habit of not doing anything.
After a few moments, she couldn’t help but ask
"Your Highness, should this one clean Your Highness’ closet."
That would keep her busy.
Regan raised his head from the documents and looked at her. As he looked at green eyes filled with hope, he suddenly remembered that she seemed to have told him that she couldn’t stay idle.
He was silent for a moment before he looked down at her dress and asked
"Did you get your dresses?"
Evelyn blinked at the sudden question and answered
"Yes, a few of them."
This morning, a servant had come from the tailor’s shop and he gave four dresses to Evelyn. She had been surprised at the speed, but at the same time she was grateful because she could change her dress finally.
So she wore one of them.
Regan nodded his head and said
"It looks good."
Rex raised his eyebrows as he heard his brother’s comment who didn’t ever praise a single woman before.
Not only he but Evelyn was also surprised but her surprise was for some other reason.
Never in her life, she had been praised by someone before.
Actually, she had been praised but those praises only made her feel disgusted. Regan’s words of praise didn’t make her feel disgusted.
It felt like genuine praise.
"Thank you, Your Highness."
She said politely.
However, what Regan said surprised her more.
"Go and bring other dresses."
"Huh?"
Evelyn whispered and frowned in confusion. But Regan looked calm as he said
"Bring them and try them on. If they require some changes then you can send them back."
Since she can’t stay idle, he will find some work for her.
Evelyn was hesitant but when she saw Regan’s firm gaze on herself she could only turn around to leave the chambers and bring the dresses.
Almost an hour later, Evelyn was standing in the third dress she had tried on in front of Regan.
The Masked Prince raised his head from the documents and looked at her when she stepped out.
He nodded his head as he said
"This color suits you more."
Evelyn looked down at the green dress and didn’t know what to say.
"Ask the tailor to make two more dresses of this color."
Regan ordered calmly but Evelyn’s eyes widened when she heard this.
"No, Your Highness. I don’t need that many."
"Why? Don’t you like them?"
Regan frowned as he looked at her. He remembered when he was on the border. Though he didn’t use to talk much with his soldiers, he had heard them talking about how their wives or sisters always pester them for clothes even after having so many sets.
So he thought that Evelyn would also like the dresses. But hearing her refusal, he felt confused.
On the other hand, Evelyn felt helpless seeing his frown. At times, she appreciated her master’s generosity but sometimes it also left her helpless.
She thought for a moment before she tried to explain.
"Your Highness has already asked the tailor to make so many dresses for me. They are enough. If I had so many dresses, then It would be difficult for me to wash them."
Regan was silent.
But the frown on his forehead slowly smoothened out.
Evelyn sighed in relief when he didn’t say anything about dresses anymore.
Rex chuckled as he saw how efficiently Evelyn changed his brother’s mind. Day by day, she convinced him that she was just the girl Regan needed in his life.
When Evelyn returned after changing, Regan finally stood up from the bed and said coldly
"Let’s go and hear what they have to say in their favor."
