Chapter 25: Evelyn, The Little Money-Grubber

Evelyn’s green eyes were bright as she was touching the coins in her hands. The cold touch somehow brought a feeling to her heart that she had never experienced before.

It made her feel as if she could also earn.

She was not as useless as they used to call her.

Regan’s face was cold but his red eyes couldn’t help but go soft when he saw her like this.

His hand suddenly reached into the drawer again and from there, he took out ten more coins and said

"Here...this is the reward for what you did."

Evelyn looked at the coins in her master’s hands but she was slightly hesitant. She already had been given so many dresses as a reward.

It was Regan who paid for those dresses.

Should she take these coins as well?

As if he could read her thoughts, Regan said calmly

"It is my duty to provide you with basic necessities. So this is the real reward."

However, his master’s words confused Elias as he wondered when his master had bought clothes for him.

But he didn’t say anything.

It was because his master had always been generous to him and he didn’t feel any envy toward Evelyn.

On the other hand, Evelyn naively believed Regan and took the coins from his hands.

Looking at her green eyes that shone and the very small smile on her lips, Regan thought that she looked like a little money-grubber.

He couldn’t help but cough lightly to stop himself from chuckling at his thoughts.

Inside his heart, he silently decided to give a salary to this girl every month on his own, if he could see her like this.

"Now go to your room."

Evelyn bowed her head and wished him and Elias night politely before she turned to leave the chambers.

Even as she was leaving, Regan could guess from her movements that she was again looking at the coins.

His lips twitched and a smile finally formed on his lips.

But soon he composed himself when he saw Elias’ wide eyes as if he had seen some kind of ghost.

’Did his master just smile?’

Elias couldn’t believe what he just saw.

He wondered if it was his illusion. He had never seen his master’s smile but today...even though his master’s half-face was covered with the mask, he could still see the other half and he seemed to see a smile ...a genuine smile just now. Not a cold and cruel smile.

But Regan’s fast regain of composure made Elias uncertain of his own vision.

Especially, his master looked serious, he straightened his back and put aside whatever he was thinking.

"Mazic border needs some people to guard. Gather some man who doesn’t have any job. I will train them."

Elias understood and said immediately

"Yes, Your Highness. How many men Your Highness needs?"

Regan thought for a moment before he said

"Twenty for now. Let’s see if we will need more."

"Yes, Your Highness"

Early morning, when Regan woke up, he frowned seeing Elias and Evelyn standing in front of him with somber faces.

"What is it?"

He asked coldly as he tightened the mask which had loosened slightly but was still covering his face.

"Your Highness, the traders of the city have gathered outside the castle. They are claiming that the castle is stealing their jobs from them. So castle should stop buying grains and selling them to people."

The way Regan’s red eyes got cold at Elias’ words was enough to show how he felt about these traders.

But he didn’t say anything.

He silently moved towards the bathroom to do his routine.

He took his own time in getting ready.

Regan was wearing his cape when Rex stepped inside his chambers.

"Regan, do you want me to deal with them?"

Rex asked his brother as he sat on the bed calmly. However, Regan shook his head and said

"I will manage."

Rex nodded his head.

That was what he had thought.

Regan had thought that Rex would leave after that.

However, when Evelyn brought the breakfast, Rex shamelessly took one of the seats.

Regan looked at his brother coldly who gasped dramatically and said

"Don’t tell me that now you don’t even want me around you."

His eyes were playful when he glanced at Evelyn after these words. Regan groaned internally because he knew that whatever Rex would speak next ...it would be rubbish.

And sure enough, the next moment, Rex spoke

"Are you afraid that Evelyn would fall for me...that I would steal her from you?"

The room’s temperature went down suddenly. Elias gulped, completely aware that his master was now angry.

It was weird.

In the past, whenever Prince Rex would tease his master, his master would silently ignore him but these days...his master behaved differently.

On the other hand, Rex silently enjoyed his brother’s glare.

Evelyn frowned on hearing Rex’s words. By now, she had understood that Prince Rex had some weird enjoyment by teasing her master.

As much as she respected Rex, her loyalty was to Regan so she said very firmly.

"That would never happen."

The coldness in Regan’s eyes reduced instantly and he looked at Rex silently who only shook his head while looking at Evelyn as if his heart had been broken by her.

"That just makes me more eager to win your heart, My dear."

Evelyn couldn’t even frown now. She knew Rex was just having fun.

But what was she supposed to do in response?

"Ignore him."

Regan’s words were the exact answer to her question and she looked at her master, nodded her head, and silently bowed her head to have her breakfast.

After she had her eyes on the plate, Regan looked at Rex with narrowed eyes who smirked playfully but didn’t say anything any longer.

He silently had his breakfast.

After all, he can’t let his brother burn much in his newfound envy.

That would not be good for his heart which had stayed frozen for so many years.
