Chapter 259: Regina’s Journal
Chapter 259: Regina’s Journal
After leaving Evelyn, Regan went to look for Rex. At such times, only Rex said the things that could make him think better.
Regan didn’t want to be angry at Evelyn but he was hurt.
At the same time, his heart hurt for her because she had to go through that pain. It must have hurt a lot when her skin burnt.
His hands were clenched tightly to form fists and his body released a ruthless aura.
He felt frustrated when he didn’t find Rex in his chambers. When he saw a maid passing by, he asked her about Rex.
"His Highness is in the library, Your Highness."
The answer made Regan frown deeply which stayed until he reached the library.
What was Rex doing inside the library?
In the end, he found Rex sitting in a pile of books.
"What are you doing?"
Regan asked seeing how carefully Rex was holding a book in his hands and reading it with his whole attention.
Rex raised his head and signed him to stay silent.
The action made Regan angry.
First, it was Evelyn and now even Rex was sending him away, Of course, Evelyn didn’t send him away. He came on his own but he was scared that if he stayed there he would say something harsh that he would regret later.
Regan was aware of his own anger.
In the end, he walked to the nearby chair and sat there while looking out of the window.
His mind was full of thoughts about Evelyn. Sometimes he would wonder in between how he would kill Arthur.
He didn’t wish to accept Arthur’s proposal. Leaving William alive would be a bad choice because it would most probably result in a war ...if not now then a few years later.
And Arthur...he was more determined not to leave Arthur after what Evelyn did to herself.
He wondered just how afraid she felt of him that she could go through that pain just so she could not let him sense her presence in a place.
Regan was actually scared by this incident.
He was scared that if he let Evelyn go then Evelyn might stay scared like this always.
What if she harmed herself again in the future just to save herself from Arthur! If it happened he would only regret the choices that he would make today.
"Regan!"
Regan came out of his thoughts when he heard Rex’s voice.
Finally, he saw Rex standing up from the pile of books amidst which he was seated before and walking towards him with the same book in his hands.
Rex sat beside him on the other chair and put a book in front of himself as he asked Regan in an eager voice.
"How did you break the spell on Lavo?"
Regan frowned wondering how he was supposed to answer such a question.
"I don’t know. I just...looked at him and told him again and again who I was. I tried to remind him of how we met and how we were always supposed to protect each other."
Rex shook his head and had a thoughtful expression on his face. Then a moment later, his eyes flashed and he asked Regan again
"Did you say that you looked into his eyes?"
Regan remembered everything very well and nodded his head. His eyes went slightly sharp and a guess started to form in his mind as he understood what Rex was trying to imply.
But was it really possible...
"I have always wondered why Arthur didn’t put any spell on you."
He heard Rex say and looked at him.
The question was reasonable.
When he fought Arthur that day, Arthur had many chances to put a spell on him but he didn’t do so.
"It might be because I didn’t look into his eyes."
Regan concluded suddenly.
"Eye contact is necessary for the spell to work so I didn’t look into his eyes."
Regan remembered and told Rex.
However, Rex shook his head again.
"Eye contact is necessary for the spell which controls the mind. Remember what Dan said. And when he took my physical appearance, I never looked into his eyes. His spell still worked."
At these words, Regan went silent.
So, Rex passed the book he had in front of him to Regan as he spoke.
"You might not remember but Mother used to tell us a story where she had come across a person who knew magic."
Regan’s eyes flickered. He frowned as he heard Rex and at the same time picked up the book passed by him.
"Mother seemed to know about these things a lot. The other day, Martha had told me that Mother used to write some journals and they were all stored in here. So I thought that I might find something here. Guess, what did I find out?"
Regan nodded his head indicating Rex to continue as he traced his mother’s writing with his fingers. It was very beautiful...most beautiful writing he had ever seen.
"On one of the pages... mother describes that a man had invaded her tent when she was training with her people. Basically, the man knew some spells and wanted to take advantage of mother by controlling her mind."
Regan’s eyes flashed with murderous intent when he heard Rex’s words.
Rex put his hand on his brother’s shoulder trying to call him. He himself had felt furious but after that, he admired when he read how their mother had dealt with that man.
"After punishing the man, Mother tried to investigate him, and what she found out shocked her. The man knew some spells and had already used them on many girls. When Mother tried to find the man again, he had disappeared already by then. After that, she tried to find out if there were more such people who knew spells like this and hence could harm innocent people but she didn’t find anyone else. But during her investigation, she also found out many other things."
Rex paused for a moment before he smiled and told Regan in an excited voice.
"The most important thing was that ...the spell didn’t work on Mother. In fact, no spell worked on Mother. She was shocked when she came to know that this was characteristic of witches. After all, Mother was born from humans so how could she be a witch...so mother investigated more. And what she found out had shocked her."
