Chapter 258: Regan Is Angry

Regan was scared to see Evelyn.

He didn’t know what he will say to her when she would ask him whether he completed his promise or not.

She trusted him to protect her. Would she still trust him?

However, Rex continued to drag him to the chambers regardless of what Regan said. In the end, Rex pushed the door and stepped inside the chambers with his brother only to find Evelyn seated at the table and reading a book.

Regan’s eyes softened at the sight.

She had been doing everything he had asked her to do.

She had stayed inside these chambers without any complaints. How suffocating it must be to stay here locked! He couldn’t even imagine and he couldn’t even tell for how long she would have to stay like that.

His heart was filled with guilt and shame at this thought.

"Evelyn, what are you reading?"

Rex asked with a smile on his lips. Evelyn smiled back lightly and passed him the book. Rex nodded his head as he saw the cover.

It was a biography of an adventurer.

After giving the book back to Evelyn, he looked at his brother who was standing at the same spot and shook his head.

Perhaps he should give them some time alone.

Rex thought and went to do his own work.

Evelyn lowered her head to continue the book but when she didn’t hear any movement for a long time she couldn’t help but raise her head to look at Regan again.

She had decided to avoid talking to him because she felt very guilty to see him.

He had done so much for her and she didn’t know how she will repay him ever.

However, seeing Regan standing there with a lost expression on his face, her heart couldn’t stay still.

"Your Highness, is everything alright?"

Evelyn asked softly as she shut down the book and walked towards Regan.

Regan looked away from her and nodded his head silently.

Evelyn thought that he might be tired.

So she held his hand and said

"Your Highness should rest for some time."

Regan again nodded his head absentmindedly. Seeing that, he was not moving, Evelyn frowned and led him towards the bed.

A smile unconsciously came up on Regan’s lips when she signed him to lie down on the bed with narrowed eyes. He did as she asked and watched as she covered him with the blanket.

However, when she was about to turn around and leave, he held her hand and asked softly

"Can I rest with you for a while?"

Evelyn’s heart fluttered. She was silent for a while before she nodded her head. Regan raised the blanket so she could lie down in his arms.

However, Evelyn forgot that she still had the burn on her back.

Hence, when she laid down, the pain seared through her body and she immediately winced because of the sudden pain.

She was not prepared to bear it. She had applied the ointment which had reduced the pain to a great extent and she almost forgot that she had burnt her own skin.

Combining with this, she had been lost in thought of what Derrick said to her and hence it didn’t even came to her mind.

She immediately pressed her lips but Regan had already noticed it.

"What’s wrong?"

Regan asked immediately as he sat up and looked at Evelyn with worry filled eyes.

"Nothing"

Evelyn answered too immediately.

Regan looked at her with narrowed eyes and asked sharply.

"Where did it pain just now? Did you hurt yourself somewh..."

Regan suddenly halted amidst his words. He suddenly looked at Evelyn with the most serious and sharp expression Evelyn had ever seen on his face.

And then he grabbed her arm and made her sit in front of him with her back facing him.

The next moment, Regan held the zip of Evelyn’s dress and opened it. This was also perhaps the first time where he did something like that without asking for Evelyn’s consent.

But he had forgotten everything at that moment....especially when his eyes fell on the burnt skin on Evelyn’s back, Regan exhaled sharply.

His red eyes went redder and his hand trembled as he raised his hand to touch the scar but in the end didn’t have the courage to really touch it.

Regan knew how it hurts when your skin burns. He had experienced at the young age of twelve. He had felt as if his whole face was on fire. It had hurt a lot.

The only relief for him had been that his brother was safe and sound.

He never wanted Evelyn to feel the same pain.

And yet here she was, sitting in front of him with her skin burnt.

"You didn’t wait for me."

He whispered sharply. His voice was filled with rage.

Evelyn immediately turned to look at him and her eyes were filled with panic when she saw that Regan’s emotionless face.

"Your Highness..."

Evelyn tried to touch his arm but Regan moved away swiftly and avoided the touch.

The actions made Evelyn’s lips quiver.

"I ...I ..."

She didn’t even know what to say.

She had been angry at herself. She thought that she was too selfish when she couldn’t say yes to Derrick request. She felt furious at herself for being a slave.

She felt furious because Regan had to do so much for her.

In the end, she ended up harming herself thinking that it was her punishment.

But she couldn’t really explain all those things to Regan.

"I am sorry..."

She could only whisper these words.

However, Regan’s didn’t even flicker. They stayed blank and absent of any emotion. Though he knew that he was not going to give her any good news as well it still hurt to know that she didn’t wait for him for three days at least.

Regan looked away from Evelyn’s teary eyes as he climbed down from the bed left without looking back.

Evelyn covered her mouth as sobs erupted from her lips.

She can’t do anything right.

She was such a trouble.
