Chapter 257: The Desperate Arthur

Evelyn stood with her naked back in front of the mirror.

Derrick had left long ago.

The door had already been locked by her. Her hand didn’t even tremble as she held the candle and took it near the eagle mark.

Her already red eyes got redder as she felt the pain searing through her body.

However, the pain that Derrick’s words have given her was more than any other pain she could get. She had never known that her being Regan’s wife would create an obstacle in his path of becoming the next king.

How could she not think about it! How could she be so stupid!

No wonder Derrick was so furious that day. She herself felt furious.

But could she really give that place to some other woman? Before she never dreamt about standing beside her prince as his wife.

However, her possessiveness for this place had grown without her inklings. Even imagining someone else to be standing beside Regan as his wife...it brought her immense pain.

She would rather die than watch that.

And then conscience would mock her. How could she be so selfish? It couldn’t be possible that the prince didn’t know this and yet he didn’t hesitate to marry her.

Giving up on such a huge thing, he chose her. He protected her from the monster of her life.

Then how could she be selfish? If taking a step back and giving some place to another woman could make Regan a King then could she not adjust a little?

Evelyn didn’t even wince as the flame of the candle burned her skin. The mark could be seen being swallowed in the flame.

Tears did slide down her eyes but it was unknown whether it was because of the pain she felt because of the skin burnt or something else completely.

But at this moment, she hated Gianna with her whole heart. She had never despised Gianna so much before for selling her as a slave....even when she was beaten, tortured, and sometimes on the verge of getting raped also, she had not despised Gianna.

She had only felt that Gianna indirectly saved her from Arthur something that she perhaps might not have been able to do.

If only she had not been a slave, then her prince would not have to face so much.

The black band might have left her wrist...but the label of a slave would not leave her till her last breath and this label would continue to snatch away her hopes and happiness every time she tries to latch onto them.

Arthur was standing outside his camp.

He didn’t look as if a sword just stabbed his stomach yesterday evening. The soldiers who saw the scene have been left scared after seeing him so healthy when so much blood was shed.

Looking at Arthur now, it seemed that what they saw yesterday was just an illusion of theirs.

However, none of them dared to raise a question. They have been instructed by their respective masters to just do as Arthur commanded them unless it included going against their respective masters.

"Did they send any reply?"

Arthur asked one of his subordinates who answered him.

"Not yet, Sir Arthur."

Arthur’s face was emotionless but if one saw carefully then one would be able to see a trace of panic in his eyes.

Yesterday he has committed a big blunder.

He was not supposed to show that to Regan. He had pretended very well until now. But at that moment, he wanted to humiliate Regan.

He enjoyed the shock he saw on Regan’s face.

He wanted Regan to know that regardless of how much he would try...he, Arthur was still more powerful than him. But in his moment of pride, he committed a big mistake which led him to send this proposal to Regan.

Now Arthur knew that he couldn’t leave William for long with Regan.

So he could only give up on Evelyn...of course, it won’t last for a lifetime.

Evelyn was his. It was for her he bore so much.

He learned all kinds of spells regardless of what pain he had to go through.

He had sold his soul to the devil for Evelyn so even if he would have to perish for it, he would not give up on Evelyn.

"Send another letter that we will give them two days to think about the proposal."

Arthur said to his subordinate who did as Arthur asked.

As he watched his subordinate leave, Arthur wished that Regan would accept his proposal. Otherwise he himself might have to enter the Mazic’s castle and bring William out of there.

But that might not be as easy as he thought it to be ...after all now Regan knew of his capabilities so he would be more careful than before.

And hence he himself needed to be more careful to hide his own secrets and weaknesses.

Regan and Rex received the letter.

They were surprised to read it.

"Is it only me who is sensing that Arthur is desperate for us to accept this proposal?"

Rex said with suspicion filling his eyes.

At this moment, both the brothers were inside Rex’s tent and Rex held the letter sent by Arthur.

Regan was silent.

He had not spoken much after coming from the battlefield. He was still wondering what answers he will give to Evelyn.

His heart and mind were in complete conflict.

When Derrick came to know of the situation, he thinks that they should accept the proposal and then move towards the Royal city where Raphael had started to control things.

However, Regan wanted to kill Arthur.

But again he didn’t know how he could do that when his sword didn’t do its work.

Rex who heard his brother’s silence in response sighed heavily. He put aside the letter and patted Regan’s shoulder as he said

"Since the war is at rest for two days, why don’t we go to the castle for some time? We will leave Henry here who will inform us as soon as there will be movement."

With Lavo’s help, it wouldn’t take more than five minutes to reach the border if there was an emergency.

Rex knew that they should not leave the border when they were under attack but he believed that Regan’s depressed mood will be alright after seeing Evelyn.

So without Regan answering him, he held his hand and dragged him out of the tent.

As Lavo flew in the sky towards the castle, Rex’s eyes narrowed.

He had some other purpose for going back as well as he wished that things would work in their favor.
