Chapter 253: Remove The Mark
Chapter 253: Remove The Mark
Evelyn didn’t see Regan for a whole day after that. She didn’t know what was going on outside at all. She just stayed inside the chambers and spent time with Lavo.
Her meals would be sent to her chambers only and only by Hannah, Miri or Ami.
The three would also come sometimes and spent time with her but she realized that Elias was standing outside the chambers and he always asked a few questions from Hannah, Miri and Ami to ensure that it were truly them and not Arthur having their physical appearance.
It was also at that moment that Evelyn remembered about the mark on her back.
"Evelyn, what happened?"
Miri asked when she saw that Evelyn had suddenly gone silent when they were talking about the kind of questions Elias had been asking them.
Evelyn shook her head first but then looked at her three friends and told them about the mark on her back.
Hannah, Miri and Amy were hearing such a thing for the first time in their life and they were completely shocked.
"How can this be possible?"
Amy whispered to herself while other two girls also looked shocked.
Evelyn could understand their shock because they didn’t know yet about the other spells Arthur could do and the consequences they could have.
"It is possible."
She just said with a grim expression on her face and then looked at them with hopeful eyes as she said
"I need help."
The three girls immediately looked at her but when they heard Evelyn’s next words, the three stiffened completely.
"We need to remove the mark. I am not certain but perhaps if we remove the mark, the spell might stop working."
Evelyn remembered Rex saying that every spell had its end and there were always some people who were immune to it. She was not immune but she could at least try to end it.
It made her feel very uncomfortable that Arthur could always tell where she was.
If she let the spell continue then Arthur would always find her easily.
Without even waiting for her friends’ response, Evelyn walked to the round table inside the chambers. She first picked the knife but then shook her head.
If she used the knife, could the flesh grow back and then it might have that mark again.
Thinking this, in the end, Evelyn picked the candle from the table and walked to Hannah, Miri and Amy who were looking at her with wide eyes.
"Evelyn..."
Hannah swallowed the lump inside her throat before she asked
"What are you doing?"
Evelyn could understand that they were scared of whatever she was trying to do. Even she was scared but she would do it if it meant that it could cut her off from Arthur.
"I want you to use this candle on my mark. Burn the flesh where the mark is."
Evelyn said calmly as she passed the candle to Hannah who didn’t even forwarded her hand to take the candle. Hannah’s hands were already trembling and she looked away from Evelyn’s calm face.
She couldn’t help but wonder seeing how Evelyn so calm while saying such words.
Did she even know how much it would pain while burning the flesh? She must not otherwise she would not say such words.
Hannah had worked in the kitchen for many years now and she knew how it hurt when you touched a hot utensils by mistake then it was about burning the flesh directly with candle. It would hurt many times more than that.
She shook her head firmly as she said
"I won’t do it. Neither would I let you do it to yourself."
Hannah said firmly.
Evelyn sighed when she heard this.
"Hannah, you don’t understand. Breaking this spell is necessary. Regardless of how much we try to secure the castle, we can’t be certain that he would not be able to enter inside. Believe me, he knows spells that can do things beyond our imagination. He can change his physical appearance and then enter the castle."
Although no new person was allowed to enter the castle, Evelyn wondered how long it would last now that they were under attack.
Her words shocked Amy, Miri and Hannah more.
"I ...I can try it."
Amy whispered in a shaky voice. Seeing Evelyn’s sombre expression, somehow Amy could understand the gravity of the situation. She was still not certain whether what she would be doing was right or not but if it could save Evelyn then why not?
She would not see anything right or wrong in it.
"Amy"
Hannah whispered with wide eyes as she looked at Amy.
"Hannah...Evelyn would not lie to us...and do you think that she would like to go through such a pain? It must be important for her and that’s why she is asking our help."
Evelyn felt grateful to Amy for thinking like this.
"I think Amy is right."
Miri also said.
Hannah looked away from her friends with conflict filled eyes.
A moment later, she finally asked
"Why don’t we wait for His Highness?"
Hannah’s eyes were filled with hopes but Evelyn refused immediately.
"No! His Highness wouldn’t let me do any such thing if he came to know of it."
That’s why she wanted to wait.
Henry would also never let her bring pain to herself. He even scolded her when she sometimes had a small cut on her finger while using the knife carelessly. Hannah knew this and that’s why she wanted to wait for the prince but Evelyn looked too adamant.
Hence, she could only watch as Evelyn sat down and uncovered her back while Amy held the candle before taking a deep breath and then moved it towards the back.
Before the flame could touch the skin, a voice filled with rage and shock was heard.
"What is going on here?"
Recognizing the voice, Evelyn as well as her three friends stiffened and looked towards the entrance.
And sure enough, Regan with anger and confusion filled eyes was staring at the scene in front of his eyes.
