Chapter 252: Another War

Leaving Raphael to rule Royal City was a bad idea. Regan knew that.

But he didn’t have any choice.

He didn’t want to leave and give a chance to take away Evelyn again. He could already see the consequences.

The fingerprints of Evelyn’s cheeks reminded Regan of how incapable he had been to protect the only woman he loved.

He could no longer trust anyone with Evelyn’s safety.

Not Elias, not Rex and not anyone else.

At least as long as Arthur was alive...he couldn’t trust anyone except himself.

Regan knew that Elias and Rex would have never faced defeat if the fight was physical and he didn’t blame them.

Two days passed and there was no movement which could make Regan feel that Arthur has finally made an appearance.

In the end, Regan felt impatient and announced in the whole city that William was to be executed three days later.

He was sure that Arthur would appear.

While waiting for Arthur, he spent his days with his wife.

Regan’s aim was to fatten up his wife now.

At this moment, they were sitting around the huge dinning table with everyone else.

Rex, Derrick, Regan and Evelyn all four were seated there.

Evelyn was confused not to see Elias sitting with them but when she asked Regan, Regan didn’t give her an answer and diverted the conversation.

She didn’t know that Regan had not forgive Elias for not being careful around Arthur yet neither did anyone told her.

So she could only stay silent and look at Rex, Derrick and Regan who looked unusually silent.

Initially, it had only been Regan and Evelyn but Rex joined them later contrary to Regan’s will...and Derrick...he was also an uninvited person in this meal.

Just when Regan wanted to open his mouth and ask him what he was doing here...Evelyn held his hand under the table and shook her head at him.

Regan frowned but didn’t say anything.

Both were unaware that Derrick had noticed this exchange silently.

As Evelyn watched Regan filling her plate with every kind of dish on the table, her eyes widen with every passing second. In the end, she finally came out of her trance and held his hand to stop him.

"Your Highness...what are you doing? I won’t be able to eat so much."

Regan frowned when he heard her words and said strictly.

"You need to. You have lost so much weight."

All his efforts before he left for the border had gone waste seeing how Evelyn had become thin just like how she was when he had seen for the first time.

Evelyn sighed and felt helpless.

She looked at the two other men on the dining table who pretended as if they didn’t see her at all. In the end, under Regan’s watch she had to finish everything on the plate.

Hence, Evelyn ended up with a bloated stomach.

The feeling irritated her so much that she didn’t even wish to talk to Regan after that who was busy defending himself.

Hence, she went to meet her friends.

Amy, Miri and Hannah were equally joyous to see Evelyn and immediately dragged her to the garden after Martha granted them permission to do so.

Evelyn was not aware that Regan was following her silently. He had taken it upon himself to make sure that she stays within his sight.

Regan didn’t know if he was being too controlling but he couldn’t bear the risk of leaving Evelyn alone and giving another chance to Evelyn.

He stood a few steps away talking to Henry about the castle’s situation since the past few months as he saw Evelyn talking with her friends.

It was at that time that a guard came running to both of them and said with wide eyes

"Your Highness...we received a news from the border just now. A big army is approaching us from the Royal City."

Regan’s face went sombre immediately. So Arthur had indeed colluded with Raphael and brought an army here.

His eyes first went to Evelyn as he instructed Henry.

"Gather the soldiers. I will be back in some time."

Henry complied immediately while Regan walked to Evelyn.

"Evelyn!"

Evelyn turned to look at him with surprise filled eyes.

"Your Highness..."

Hannah, Miri and Ami sensed the situation was slightly serious so they smiled at Evelyn before they left.

"Evelyn, let’s go inside our chambers, shall we?"

Evelyn was confused but nodded her head without asking any questions.

When they were inside the chambers, Regan locked the doors and turned to look at her with a firm and serious expression on her face.

"Evelyn, we are under attack."

Evelyn’s lips parted when she heard him.

Regan immediately cupped her face and kissed her forehead.

"Don’t think anything that you should not."

Regan had a hunch that Evelyn was blaming herself somewhere for whatever was going on. He had see her apologizing so many times to Lavo and Rex in the past few days.

Evelyn lowered her head hearing him and didn’t say anything.

Regan sighed as he kissed her hair and said

"William would have still attacked, Evelyn and Raphael was also not going to give up ...so believe me, you are just involved in all this because of Arthur which is going to end very soon."

Regan was trying to be as reasonable as possible so that Evelyn would believe him. Evelyn could also see this and nodded her head. She smiled forcefully and held his hand.

"Your Highness need not worry about me. I am safe here. Your Highness should go. There must be many other things to manage."

Regan nodded his head and looked towards the balcony.

"Lavo is there. I have already talked to him and he understands now that he is not supposed to look into Arthur’s eyes. Arthur can’t castle his spell on Lavo anymore."

Evelyn nodded her head understanding that Regan was trying to assure her that she was safe here.

She held his hand which was on her cheek more firmly as she said

"I won’t leave from here unless Your Highness comes on your own and ask me to leave."

Regan was relieved to hear that. He kissed her forehead before he stepped away and finally left the chambers.
