Chapter 244: The War Ends

"Where were you? Were you trying to run away from me?"

Arthur’s rage filled voice fell in Evelyn’s ears. Evelyn raised her head slightly and looked at him wondering if he was any different from Raphael.

She didn’t know why but she feared Arthur less than before now. Was it because she somewhere pitied him before?

She knew that Gianna had not been enough of a mother to Arthur so she couldn’t help but pity him for what he turned out to be.

But she didn’t feel it any longer.

Even she didn’t have a great life.

She also didn’t have parents and from what she could see now...Gianna and her family also used her for their selfish purposes. But she didn’t blame others for that. She couldn’t kill an innocent.

It was solely in one’s hands to become a sinister or a kindhearted person.

Arthur had chosen to become the former and she could see it clearly now. He was kind to her as long as she followed him like a puppet but she took one step in the direction opposite to what he said, she would see his sinister self.

"I went to drink some water."

Evelyn said calmly and caressed her cheek which was throbbing now.

The anger on Arthur’s face was replaced with the guilt. Evelyn saw it clearly bit didn’t feel anything.

"Evelyn...does it hurt?"

He suddenly leaned down to touch her cheek and asked.

"No!"

Evelyn said calmly but she was sure that he could see the swelling which had started to form on her cheek.

Sure enough, Arthur guilt increased when he heard her ’no’.

"No, don’t lie to me. I know it hurts. I am so sorry...I thought that you were going to leave me. That’s why I got angry. Here...you can hit me."

Arthur presented his cheek in front of Evelyn but Evelyn smiled tightly and said

"It’s alright. I know that you didn’t do it intentionally."

The guilt in Arthur’s eyes increased with every passing second and that was what Evelyn wanted exactly.

"Evelyn...you are still so understanding. My Evelyn...only you understand me."

Arthur whispered as he stepped forward and hugged Evelyn tightly in his arms. He looked very childish at this moment.

A moment later, he leaned away and whispered softly as he caressed the swelling on Evelyn’s cheek.

"I will go and make some medicinal paste for you. There are some herbs inside the kitchen."

Evelyn nodded lightly.

Almost half an hour later, Arthur was applying some paste on Evelyn’s cheek. His eyes were filled with shame whenever he saw her cheek.

After he was done, he suddenly stood up and said

"I need to go out now. I still need to make sure that no one comes to steal you from me again."

Evelyn stiffened when she heard him. She wondered if his words implied something about her prince but she had to keep a smile on her lips and nod her head.

At this moment, Arthur could do anything to bring her into submission. He could harm Rex or Lavo so Evelyn didn’t want to make him angry.

Arthur left soon. Evelyn saw him whispering something before the door of the castle opened suddenly...so he had put a spell on the door when she had gone upstairs and found Rex.

For one last time, he turned to look at her again and Evelyn smiled at him which disappeared as soon as the doors closed.

She picked the bowl filled with paste and walked to Lavo who was asleep.

She gently applied the paste on his wounds. After that, she went to Rex’s room. He was still unconscious. It made her worry if he was alright.

However, she could only apply the paste on his wounds. Evelyn also removed his robe and applied the paste on his torso where there were many bruises and wounds.

She wondered if Arthur controlled Rex’s mind before he beat him like this because she knew very well that Rex was a very good soldier in the battlefield.

He should not reach such a state unless Arthur had some advantage in his hand.

It was also the reason that Evelyn avoided looking into Arthur’s eyes too much.

Evelyn came out of her thoughts when she heard a whisper

"Evelyn!"

Evelyn looked down at Rex with surprise filled eyes.

"Your Highness..."

Rex’s eyes were filled with shame and anger as he noticed the swelling on her cheek.

"Who?"

He whispered looking at the swelling.

"Arthur."

Evelyn gave only one word response.

Rex closed his eyes as guilt filled him.

"It is because of me."

He whispered to himself.

He had not known that Arthur could even change his physical features and look like someone else. Hence, he was easily trapped by Arthur.

After that, he saw with his own eyes how Arthur transformed into another Rex and went away to bring Evelyn here.

Rex tried his best to stop him. He called him a coward to trap a girl like this. However, he still couldn’t stop Arthur.

He was here to protect Evelyn but he became the reason for her to fall in Arthur’s trap.

Now he just wished that Regan would not fall in such a trap and come soon to save Evelyn.

(Four Days Ago)

On the Border

William’s army couldn’t stand any longer.

Regan was worried about Evelyn. Lavo had also not returned so his worries only increased. Now he just wanted to end the war as soon as possible.

Hence, from the next day, he started to apply all the tactics against the enemies.

Within two days, the enemy army came crumbling down. Without even resting for a night, Regan invaded the enemy’s tent with his soldiers.

He finally found William inside a tent.

William stood there with a sword in his hands ready to fight Regan. Regan looked at him with a bored expression on his face and immediately attacked on him with his sword without waiting for him to attack.

Within ten minutes, William was kneeling on his knees in front of Regan. His sword lay far away inside the tent. It surprised Regan to know that William was not as strong as he had thought him to be.

Then how was he able to sustain for so long!

Was it because of Arthur? After all, he had heard how close they were to each other and Arthur seemed to have many tricks on his sleeves.

Whatever it was, he just wanted to kill William and then finish this war so that he could go back to see his Evelyn safe and sound with his own eyes.

Hence, he raised his sword to kill William but before he could do so, William suddenly raised his head and said with gritted teeth.

"If you won’t kill me then I can help you. That slave girl....she must be in Arthur’s hands currently. Arthur is very powerful...believe me...without me, you won’t be able to control him."
