Chapter 240: A Safe Place

Evelyn thought that she was thinking too much into things.

So she shook away the thoughts. Yet a part of her mind continued to think about why Lavo didn’t behave like before when he saw her.

"Your Highness, how is His Highness doing?"

She called out to Rex and asked

"Regan is good. The war is about to end."

Rex answered calmly and Evelyn was relieved to hear the answer.

However, since she was seated ahead of Rex, she couldn’t see the coldness flashing through his eyes when he spoke about Regan.

And his eyes at her head were also grim when he heard her asking about Regan.

Lavo continued to fly for about two hours.

When he started to go towards the ground, Evelyn only saw a dense forest beneath her.

It was only when her feet touched the ground that she was able to see a huge castle in the dense forest.

"This...Your Highness..."

Evelyn looked at Rex who had already walked inside the castle.

She frowned as Rex’s behavior was slightly weird to her. She lifted her dress slightly fearing that she would fall down if her foot got tangled in any bush.

When she stepped inside the castle, she saw Rex standing in the huge hall and looking at her with a smile.

Rex’s smile also seemed very weird to Evelyn.

Evelyn looked away from him and looked at the spacious castle. The castle had been covered by trees and bushes from the outside so it looked very shabby. However, from the inside, its beauty could give competition to the castle in Mazic.

"Does it belong to His Highness and Your Highness?"

Evelyn asked in almost a whisper mesmerized by the beauty of the castle.

"No, it belongs to me solely."

Evelyn couldn’t help but feel surprised when she heard Rex’s answer. Till now, every castle and palace she visited...it had belonged to both Rex and Regan equally.

But not paying much attention to it, she continued to look around.

"You can also visit the upstairs."

Evelyn nodded her head and walked towards the stairs. She was actually trying to distract herself from many things. She would not be honest if she said that she was not afraid after hearing Rex that Arthur had run away from the border.

If staying here meant that she could stay safe from Arthur, then Evelyn didn’t mind it at all.

As Evelyn was watching the rooms, she suddenly heard some sounds from one of the rooms. She frowned as she looked towards the room wondering if someone was there.

Did Rex forget to tell her that someone else was also staying here?

It would be good actually because Evelyn didn’t know if she would be able to stay sane if she stayed alone. Ezra’s and her prince’s thoughts were eating her inside whenever she was alone.

She didn’t know if she was being selfish but she really wished for a distraction.

Wanting to see who was inside the room, Evelyn walked towards it and frowned when she found that the room was locked from the outside.

She hesitated for a moment before her curiosity won the best and she opened the door.

And Evelyn’s face went pale at the sight in front of her.

In front of her was lying Rex on the ground completely unconscious and he seemed to be badly beaten up.

It seemed that he just lost consciousness because she had heard sounds just a few moments ago. But this was not the question whose answer she wanted.

The question was that ...if this man was Rex then who was the person who brought her here!

Lavo’s unusual behavior on seeing her also flashed through Evelyn’s mind suddenly and her heart sank deeper.

What was going on?!

"Evelyn!"

Evelyn heard the sound and her body trembled before she stepped inside the room and shut the door loudly.

What followed after that was the sound of footsteps.

Evelyn’s hands were trembling as she tried to lock the door.

"Evelyn...are you inside?"

Evelyn flinched when she heard the voice from close. She stayed silent and even tried to silence her heavy breathing.

However, the person outside seems to realize that she was inside the room.

"So you saw everything.... It’s my mistake. I should not have sent you upstairs but I also needed to do something that I couldn’t let you see."

Evelyn heard everything silently as she leaned against the door with her back against it and then looked at Rex who was completely unconscious.

What was going on? Who was this man who could turn himself into Rex?

The next moment, she received her answer as she finally heard the real voice of the person outside.

"Now, come outside. I need to see you. It has been so long since I saw you last."

The trembling of her body intensified as Evelyn covered her face. Tears started to slide down from her eyes furiously.

It was Arthur!

She gave herself into Arthur’s hands.

What will she do now?!

"Evelyn! Did you not hear what I said?"

Arthur said again when he didn’t hear any movement from inside the room.

However, Evelyn didn’t give him any reply.

The next moment when Arthur banged on the door, Evelyn whimpered loudly.

Immediately, Arthur’s concern-filled voice fell in her ears.

"Evelyn, are you alright?"

But Evelyn didn’t give him any reply. Arthur could only hear her small sniffles. His heart ached when he realized that she was crying but at the same time, rage flashed through his eyes.

He was doing so much for her and yet she was so ungrateful. It was all because of Regan otherwise his Evelyn was never like this!

Arthur suddenly felt so frustrated when he remembered Regan.

He couldn’t forget that despite being his wife, Evelyn married someone else.

He was in no longer in any mood of seeing Evelyn so he walked away.

On the other hand, inside the room, Evelyn lay on the floor covering her face. Her shoulders trembled as she cried. Her heart was actually filled with fear as she wondered how she will get out from there now.

Arthur was too powerful if he could change himself into Rex physically.

In the past few days, Evelyn had thought she had finally shed away her fears and she was stronger than before but now she suddenly felt that all of it was useless!

In front of Arthur, she would always feel weak and powerless. Just like how she felt when he killed Oliver in front of her eyes and she could do nothing except watch him.
