Chapter 235: Leaving The Royal Palace (2)
They were out of Royal Palace now but they still had to decide where they were supposed to go after that.
Evelyn knew that though Derrick’s health has improved, he still needed to rest. They didn’t know if the poison was still residing in his body.
They also needed to find a good doctor for him.
And for all this, they needed to get a safe place first. But were they safe in Royal City anywhere now?
Raphael would be able to find them anywhere.
Evelyn remembered Raphael saying that even the palace she lived in with Regan and Rex was surrounded by his people so she couldn’t go there as well with Derrick.
Though she was worried about Isla whose whereabouts were still unknown, and Elliot and Ezra who were in the palace perhaps...Evelyn knew that she needed to reach a safe place first.
She just couldn’t fall in Raphael clutches now and the same went for Derrick. Otherwise they could become the reason for her prince’s defeat.
"We will get out of Royal City first and we need to do it before the morning."
Evelyn said with a serious expression on her face.
The guard would step inside Royal Chambers in morning with breakfast and at that time, he would find out that she and Derrick had disappeared and hence Raphael would also come to know.
So they needed to leave Royal City at least before Raphael starts to search for them.
Derrick seemed to be aware of Evelyn’s plan even without her saying and nodded his head.
Evelyn didn’t know the way but Derrick knew.
The tunnel they had crawled out from opened into a small forest.
"There is a short way from here. We would be able to leave Royal City in only two hours if we continued walking."
Derrick said calmly and Evelyn merely nodded her head.
The small conversation that used to happen between them had ceased after Evelyn’s outburst from that day.
Evelyn actually felt slightly embarrassed. Of course, she didn’t find anything wrong she said but she wondered if it was of any use.
She felt as if she just wasted her breath and tears.
However, what she didn’t know was the impact her words had made on Derrick. What she didn’t know was that Derrick had been constantly pondering on her words and somewhere he had started to understand something that even Regina couldn’t make him understand.
The shortcut would take them out of Royal City in two hours if they walked continuously but Evelyn knew that they couldn’t walk non-stop.
Derrick was recovering so she preferred taking a rest after every half an hour. They rested for some time and then continued walking.
Hence, it took them at least three hours when they had finally stepped out of Royal City.
After taking some rest again, they reached a small village.
They walked inside the village as Evelyn needed to do something. Derrick was unaware but he didn’t complain.
After walking for some more time, they stopped under a tree and Evelyn said
"Your Majesty, I think we should rest here for night."
Derrick nodded his head.
However before he sat down, Evelyn took out a cloth from her bag and then she laid it under the tree. After that, she signed Derrick to sit down.
When Derrick was seated, she even took out a blanket and then covered him with it.
Derrick stared at her lowered head silently as she helped him with the blanket. He frowned when Evelyn stood up and then walked a few steps away from him and sat down there.
"Evelyn, you can rest here."
Derrick signed to the spot beside him.
It was the first time Derrick was calling her by her name. Otherwise he had calling her ’girl’ only. So he did know her name.
Evelyn refused him politely.
"Your Majesty should rest comfortably."
Derrick glared at the girl when she turned her head away. Never in his life he had to say a thing twice...of course this didn’t include his son Regan.
But he had never expected that his wife would be the same.
Derrick didn’t want to talk to Evelyn again.
However, as the night passed, it started to get more and more colder. Derrick could see how Evelyn was curled up against another tree and shivering in cold.
He glared at her again and stood up from the spot he was resting. Walking to the tree, Evelyn was leaning against, he put the blanket he had been using on her as well.
It was a large blanket which Derrick supposed Evelyn took out from his closet. It could easily cover both of them without them sitting close to each other.
The girl was intelligent. Thought Derrick as he sensed the cold night.
He was strong enough to bear the cold in normal circumstances but now his body was still recovering so he was not sure and looking at Evelyn’s petite frame, he was sure that the girl would fall sick if not protected from cold.
Why was she so stubborn as her husband?
As he glared at the sleeping Evelyn, his eyes softened suddenly.
He couldn’t help but remember how he had always wanted a daughter. He wanted a daughter from Regina...a daughter who would be like hers.
Derrick had always thought that if he had a daughter, he would pamper her, dote on her and give her everything she would want.
He would never marry her off and even if she liked someone then he would just bring that man to live with her in the Royal Palace.
Unfortunately, his beloved Queen Regina left him before he could have a daughter with her and Derrick never wanted to have a daughter with any other woman again.
A forlorn look passed through his eyes when he remembered Regina.
Evelyn actually reminded him of his wish of having a daughter.
He shook his head realizing the way his thoughts were going and closed his eyes to sleep.
They had a long way to tomorrow as well.
