Chapter 234: Leaving The Royal Palace (1)
Evelyn didn’t shed a single tear after being beaten so badly by Raphael but now her eyes were suddenly glossy and her chin quivered as she spoke
"What is someone’s fault if he is born poor or he is not strong enough to save himself from becoming a slave, Your Majesty?"
"I have never seen a day in my life where I was not beaten and given even two time of meals since I became a slave. You people see us as some kind of pest yet you people are unable to do anything without the people like us. When you wish to vent your anger, you beat us, when you wish to starve us, you do so...and when you want to have some fun, you throw us alive inside an arena with forty lions who were left hungry for weeks."
Evelyn paused remembering the day when she had stepped inside the arena.
The horrors of that night when she was inside dungeons alone with Raphael also flashed in front of Evelyn’s eyes.
"That night...before the prince came to save me....Raphael..."
Evelyn could not even call Raphael a prince anymore. Her eyes flashed with disgust whenever she took Raphael’s name. A tear slid down her eyes as she continued.
"He had beaten me to the point that I was starting to lose my consciousness...and then he was forcing himself on me....the only one thing that I have been able to keep safe in my life, he wanted to even snatch that from me. Yet, I have to stay silent because I was a slave."
Evelyn stared into Derrick’s eyes as she smiled bitterly and said
"I had to remember what my first owner told me. I was not supposed to have any wish, any dignity, any self-respect or anything which could keep my head higher. I could be starved raped, beaten, tortured, and even killed but I was not supposed to even make a sound. That was my place...and it still seemed to be because the tag of slave would not leave me until my death."
Evelyn swallowed the lump inside her throat as she walked past by Derrick.
She knew that she spoke too much but she didn’t really care at this moment.
Her heart was too filled up and she really wanted to let it out and she didn’t think that she let it out on a wrong person.

After that, she and Derrick rarely spoke to each other.
Evelyn still cooked for him and helped him to the bathroom. But she never looked him in the eye again and always stayed silent.
It was the next morning when she came out of secret room after making breakfast that Derrick said suddenly
"I will leave with you."
Evelyn merely nodded her head and from the same morning she started to destroy the wall that separated the secret room and the tunnel Derrick had talked about.
There was a shovel inside the secret room so she could use it.
Since she was alone, it took her time but she tried her best. She couldn’t stay absent from the chambers for the whole day but she still worked on the wall for at least five hours a day.
Two days later, Evelyn stepped out of the secret room and told Derrick politely
"The tunnel can be seen now and the hole is big enough for us to crawl inside it."
Derrick nodded his head and then said
"We will leave at night. That way, we will have longer time to go somewhere far away and they won’y notice us."
Evelyn bowed her head and said politely
"Yes, Your Majesty."
After that, she went to the bathroom to get fresh.
However, she was not aware that Derrick was looking at her with guilt filled eyes.
The same night after the Royal Palace was completely silent and Evelyn and Derrick had their dinner already, they waited for the guard to come and take back the tray he had brought.
After the guard left, they again waited for half an hour before Derrick climbed down from the bed on his own.
"Does Your Majesty have some simple clothes? We can’t leave in such clothes."
His health was much better than before because of having full meals. He could at least walk on his own now.
On the other hand, Evelyn walked to the vase and took out the dagger she had hidden there. Derrick recognized the dagger and his eyes flickered. However, he didn’t ask Evelyn to give it to him.
He silently accompanied Evelyn after she removed the painting and opened the door of the secret room.
After both of them were inside, Evelyn somehow hung the painting back and close the door.
It was difficult and took a lot of time as she was doing it from inside but she gritted her teeth and did it.
If they left just like that, then Raphael might find them easily as he would be able to see where the tunnel ended and he would be able to follow her.
Hence, by hiding the secret room, they would be able to borrow the time.
Finally, she saw Derrick bending down and crawling out of the hole that she had dug in the wall.
Evelyn picked up the bag she had prepared from the secret room and then followed Derrick.
The inside of the tunnel was completely dark and Evelyn was suddenly afraid that they would not be able to find their way.
However, Derrick suddenly held her hand and guided her ahead easily. He seemed to know the way out of the tunnel very easily.
Evelyn silently followed him.
After almost half an hour, they crawled out of the tunnel.
As Evelyn saw the moon in the sky, she closed her eyes and sighed in relief.
No longer Raphael would be able to use her against the prince. She didn’t know if Raphael had already told Regan that she was captured by him.
If it was so, then she needed to find a way to assure Regan that she was safe and sound.
