Chapter 236: Going To Mazic
Chapter 236: Going To Mazic
Evelyn woke up even before sunrise. She was surprised when she sensed the warmth of her body amidst the cold winds. Slowly, she opened her eyes and saw the blanket that was draped over her body, and then her eyes went to Derrick who was also leaning against the same tree some distance away covered with the same blanket.
Looking at the blanket, she felt a little at loss. She had clearly told him that she was alright then why did he.... But then she soon shook her head.
Derrick’s words from before had already made her know his thoughts about slaves clearly. It hurt Evelyn to know how the King of Empire looked at slaves as if they were animals.
Then again...with the condition of slaves in Alfaros and whatever happened in the arena that day...she should have already known this.
After all, none of that could have happened without Derrick’s permission.
Evelyn would take care of him because he was King and Regan’s father but she didn’t know if she respected him after her outburst.
Evelyn removed the blanket carefully but even from this small action, Derrick woke up immediately and looked at her.
"Are we leaving?"
He asked Evelyn immediately.
Evelyn didn’t look at him as she shook her head and said
"Your Majesty needs to wait here. I need to go for some time to do something. Till then, Your Majesty can get fresh and wash your face if you want. There is a pond nearby."
Derrick nodded his head and saw Evelyn picking up the bag and leaving him behind.
They were still out of the area where villagers lived so no one really had seen them up till now. However, looking at Evelyn’s back, Derrick wondered if she would really return.
He would not be surprised even if she didn’t.
Hence, when almost two hours later, Evelyn returned, Derrick’s eyes flashed with surprise. Evelyn noticed it at a glance and her nose flared slightly.
She had not brought him here to leave him alone.
However, she stayed silent as she put down the bag which was heavier than before and took out a set of clothes, and passed them to Derrick.
"Your Majesty needs to change into these clothes."
Derrick looked down at his clothes. One glance at his clothes and anyone would be able to tell that he was not from a poor family. It could create a problem for them if they traveled just like this.
So Derrick couldn’t help but give an approving glance at Evelyn.
Evelyn was already wearing a maid’s clothes so she didn’t need to change.
Evelyn was not aware of what he was thinking. She just signed to the bushes a few steps away and said
"Your Majesty can go there and change."
Derrick nodded and walked to the bushes. As much as it was embarrassing for him, he knew that they didn’t have any other way.
When Derrick returned, he saw Evelyn had taken two plates out of the cloth bag and she was serving some dry food on the plates.
Exactly how many things she had brought in that bag? Derrick wondered silently as he took the plate from Evelyn’s hands.
As he was about to start breakfast, Derrick suddenly wondered something and asked Evelyn
"How did you buy these clothes?"
Although the fabric of the cloth he was wearing was dull, they were still new.
Evelyn’s ears went slightly red which surprised Derrick. Her head was lowered so he could only see her red ears and soon he heard her low voice.
"I picked a few decorative things from Your Majesty’s chambers...that were made of gold and some precious metals. I sold them and got some money."
Derrick blinked and then nodded his head in understanding.
However, his eyes flashed with amusement seeing Evelyn’s red ears. Was she embarrassed?
"You did right."
He praised in his own way.
He had not thought of all this. It was because of Evelyn that he was having breakfast even after running away from Royal Palace otherwise he might have to starve.
When he was having his meal, Evelyn raised her head slightly and looked at him. Seeing that he indeed didn’t look angry, she sighed in relief and continued eating her meal.
Almost half an hour later, they started their journey again.
Derrick was feeling much refreshed after a night’s rest and he also had a full stomach. The clothes Evelyn bought for him were also warm so he was not feeling cold as well.
He could walk for longer than before.
Only five minutes had passed since they had started when Evelyn said to Derrick
"Your Majesty, I think that we should go to Mazic. Your Majesty would be safe there because we have prince’s people there protecting the city."
Derrick’s eyes flashed with something before he nodded his head.
Mazic...his Regina’s city....
On the other hand, Evelyn looked at the sky where the sun had risen already. She wondered if Raphael knew already that she and Derrick had escaped from the Royal Palace.
Even if he did, it would still take some time for them to search everywhere and then spread the news. They would be far away until then...at least she hoped so.
However, Evelyn was not aware of many things.
She didn’t know that late at night, Arthur also stepped inside the Royal chambers just when she left with Derrick. He had been confused and panicked to not find her there when he could clearly sense her there.
She also didn’t know that Rex had already come to Royal city and was aware that Evelyn was in Royal Palace while their palace was surrounded by Raphael’s people.
Unaware of everything, she could only walk ahead still worried about Ezra, Elliot, and Isla. Sometimes, she would be worried about everyone on the border.
In the end, she could only pray that Regan, Rex, Elias... everyone would be alright.
Because Evelyn didn’t know if she would be able to hold herself together if she lost any of them.
She could count on her fingers the people who mattered to her and Evelyn didn’t wish to suffer a loss again.
Oliver’s loss had left enough of a deep scar and she was not ready to bear another.
