Derrick looked at Evelyn calmly and answered

"It is the food that can be used in times of danger. My father had made this place, especially for such times. There are firewood and utensils available as well. You can cook anything you want for yourself."

Evelyn nodded her head vigorously but then she was suddenly worried.

"What if someone came inside..."

If they found her absent then they would immediately doubt that something was wrong.

"No one will come before lunch."

Derrick said calmly.

He had observed the pattern of the guard coming inside. Even Evelyn knew that he was somewhere right but there was every kind of possibility.

Even Derrick was aware of that but they couldn’t continue with such food otherwise they will fall sick and won’t have any energy.

So he said deeply

"Go and cook. I will close this gate and open it almost half an hour later. Would you be done by then?"

Evelyn nodded her head immediately.

Hence, they did as Derrick had suggested.

Fortunately, as they had expected no one really came inside the chambers for that half an hour. Evelyn finished cooking as soon as she could.

She made some simple dishes as Derrick was still recovering and hence he needed to eat light meals.

When Derrick opened the door again, Evelyn was serving the dishes on the plates. Seeing him, she hurriedly stepped outside and put the dishes on the nearby table inside the chambers.

Then she helped Derrick to the bed first.

He must have walked to open the gate on his own and from his face, anyone could see that the small walk had tired him out.

Evelyn put the pillow behind his back and ensured that he was seated comfortably and then she took the plates to the bedside table.

After that, she held the plate for Derrick and said softly

"Your Majesty, have breakfast."

Derrick nodded his head but then held the plate and said calmly

"You have your own. I will eat on my own."

Evelyn was concerned at first but seeing that his hands were not trembling while holding the plate, she let it be and sat on the nearby chair to have her own breakfast.

A sigh of satisfaction escaped Evelyn’s lips when she had one bite. It seemed as if she was eating good food after years. She couldn’t help but look toward Derrick wondering if he also liked the food.

However, there was no expression on Derrick’s face. So she could only ensure herself by seeing him eating calmly.

It must not be bad if he was eating it and didn’t get angry.

After they finished breakfast, Evelyn went back to the same secret room to wash the utensils. They couldn’t leave these utensils in the chambers otherwise the guards could get suspicious.

When Evelyn returned, she saw Derrick lying down on the bed so she covered the bed with the curtains. Just when she was doing this, she heard Derrick speaking

"There is a tunnel behind the room. As long as you can destroy the sand wall built inside the room which separates it from the tunnel...you can get out of Royal Palace and go back to some safe place."

Evelyn was standing still as she tried to register whatever Derrick said. She was surprised and wondered why Derrick didn’t tell this to her this before. But then he woke up only yesterday.

She lowered her head as she thought for a few moments and then said suddenly

"Your Majesty, I can work to destroy the wall...but Your Majesty will have to leave Royal Palace with me."

Derrick’s eyes were closed before when he spoke but when he heard Evelyn’s words, he opened his eyes and frowned at her deeply as he said in a cold voice.

"Did you not hear what I just said? Destroy the wall and leave through the tunnel. You don’t need to worry about me. I am the ruler of this Empire. I can look out for myself very well."

If it was yesterday when Derrick had woken up then Evelyn would have not been able to say anything. But now she could feel that Derrick actually had a soft heart.

And even if he didn’t have a soft heart as she thought, he couldn’t really do anything to her.

So Evelyn took a chance and said firmly

"If Your Majesty doesn’t wish to leave then I will also stay here."

Derrick glared at her angrily when he heard her words.

Did he not just say that she should leave? Does this girl have some issues with her ears? Seeing the stubborn expression on her face, Derrick felt very annoyed and said angrily

"Then stay!"

Evelyn sighed as she saw Derrick turning his back to her and covering himself with a blanket. He actually looked like an old grumpy man right now.

She didn’t say anything after that and went to sit on the couch.

She actually wanted to get out of there as soon as possible as she was afraid that Raphael would use her against the prince but Evelyn didn’t have the conscience to leave Derrick here.

Not only he was the King but he was also the prince’s father.

How would she show her face to the prince if she left his father like this?

Derrick didn’t speak to her after that.

Even when the guard brought the lunch and Evelyn went to ask him if she should go and prepare the lunch in the secret room, he didn’t speak to her.

It actually looked so childish to Evelyn.

In the end, she took the risk and went to the secret room to prepare lunch after disposing of the porridge that had poison in it.

However, when the lunch was almost ready, Evelyn saw the door being opened suddenly and then she saw Derrick standing there.

"Come out. A maid came and she didn’t see you anywhere. I think she went to inform guards."

Evelyn’s eyes went wide when she heard this.
