Chapter 230: The Secret Room (1)
Evelyn couldn’t sleep deeply since she was always afraid that someone would step inside and find out that Derrick was recovering.
She was especially careful regarding Raphael.
The early morning when the guard came with breakfast, Evelyn was already awake. Her eyes were filled with panic when she saw the guard looking towards the bed.
Evelyn followed his eyes and realized that he was looking at the fallen vase on the floor. It must have fallen down when Derrick got up from the bed and fell down.
She looked back at the guard and smiled tightly as she tried to divert his attention.
"It fell down from me last night by mistake when I was checking on His Majesty."
The guard looked at her and nodded his head lightly.
Evelyn was afraid that he would doubt again so she continued speaking
"Can I get a new set of clothes?"
What she asked for was actually genuine.
She had been wearing the same clothes since the day she had been locked inside the chambers.
The guard frowned deeply and looked thoughtful.
A moment later, he finally said
"I will send the maid with clothes."
Evelyn sighed in relief when he left the chambers after that.
She picked up the big bowl from the tray immediately and went to the bathroom first. After disposing of the porridge like every other day, she came back to the room. Evelyn had just put the bowl in the tray when the maid entered with a set of clothes in her hands.
Evelyn realized that the clothes were of a maid only and they looked quite old but she didn’t mind and thanked the maid for bringing them.
After the maid left, she picked up the small bowl and walked toward the bed.
Derrick was asleep so Evelyn was hesitant about whether she should wake him up or wait for him to wake up on his own.
The porridge was still warm and it won’t taste good if it went cold.
In the end, Evelyn decided to wake up Derrick.
"Your Majesty..."
Fortunately, Derrick opened his eye at one call of hers.
He looked at her with a frown. Evelyn thought that he was angry because she woke him up so she explained herself immediately
"Your Majesty, the breakfast is here."
Derrick nodded his head slightly and started to sit on the bed. Evelyn immediately set a pillow behind his back so that he could lean against the headrest comfortably.
She didn’t feel as afraid of him as before. That was the only reason she had the courage to do so.
After he was seated comfortably, Evelyn put the bowl below his chin.
However, Derrick’s frown returned when he saw the watery porridge again. It was less than last night and all he could see was water in it.
With a clenched jaw, he stared at the porridge and said coldly
"I am not eating this."
The baffled Evelyn raised her head and looked at him in confusion as well as shock.
"Your Majesty...we have only this. Your Majesty must eat something to recover as soon as possible."
Evelyn tried to persuade him as she understood his situation. As the King of such a huge Empire, he must have eaten whatever he wished till today.
But now, such a porridge must be difficult to swallow for him.
However, they didn’t have much of a choice.
But Derrick looked at her thin body and his lips twitched slightly.
If it went on like this, then the girl might even disappear completely!
In the end, he didn’t say anything to her and started to climb down from the bed.
Evelyn’s eyes went wide as she thought that Derrick wanted to go outside and talk to the guards about the food they were sent inside.
Although this sounded ridiculous, she could only come up with such a guess seeing Derrick trying to get down from the bed.
But she couldn’t let it happen. She was sure if the guards outside came to know that Derrick was awake then they would inform Raphael about it.
And she could only imagine what Raphael would do to Derrick after that.
So she blocked Derrick’s way as she said
"Your Majesty, you can’t go out. Please, Your Majesty, lies down on the bed. I will ask the guard to send something else."
Derrick looked at the girl with an annoyed expression on his face.
"Who said I am going out?"
His voice was better than before. It was not as weak as before and now it was deeper and cold. Evelyn actually felt scared of him but only for a moment before she stood firm and asked
"Then where is Your Majesty going?"
Derrick was sure that he would have thrown the person inside the dungeons who would question him so persistently but he decided to forgive Evelyn for once. Anyway, he didn’t have a choice!
"To bring food."
He answered in annoyance when he saw that she was still not leaving his way.
Evelyn frowned in confusion and wanted to ask more but Derrick interrupted her thoughts by saying.
"Support me."
And Evelyn did so quite immediately.
Then Derrick signed her towards the wall beside the bed where a huge painting was hung and said
"Walk me to that painting."
Evelyn was confused but did what he said.
She walked Derrick to stand in front of the painting.
Derrick held the nearby chair to stand and said authoritatively
"Remove the painting."
Evelyn again obeyed him.
When she removed the painting, her eyes went wide as she saw a circular handle on it which was made of iron.
"Rotate it."
Derrick’s voice came from her behind.
Evelyn’s eyes were filled with amazement as she rotated the handle. Her eyes went wide as the wall suddenly started to part and then she saw a room behind the wall.
She stepped inside the room only to see many sacks filled with sweet potatoes, rice, and many kinds of flour.
The shocked Evelyn turned around to look at Derrick.
"Your Majesty, this..."
