Chapter 227: Derrick Wakes Up

After the physician left, Evelyn pondered on his words.

The physician meant to say that Derrick was still being poisoned. But how could he be ...unless the food he ate was also poisoned!

Evelyn inhaled sharply at her guess.

If that was so then it must be Raphael’s doing but then why was he even bothering to send the physician to feed Derrick the medicinal paste?

Did it mean that Raphael wanted to keep Derrick alive but not awake?

Evelyn paced across the chambers as she thought what could be Raphael’s plans exactly.

In these few weeks, she had been able to find only some information.

If Raphael was still keeping the pretense of sending a physician then it meant that there are still some people in the Royal Palace who don’t belong to him. But to get even those people’s help and to get out of here, she needed Derrick.

Her eyes went towards Derrick again as an idea came to her mind.

In the afternoon, when the guard came with lunch, he placed a tray in front of Evelyn. There were always two bowls in the tray since Evelyn was locked inside the chambers.

Hers was small. The guard had told her specifically the first day. At that time, she had not thought much about it. Both the bowls had watery porridge but now it seems that the big bowl had different content than hers.

She had to suppose that the small bowl didn’t have any poison as nothing happened to her since she had been eating it.

After the guard left, Evelyn picked up the big bowl and walked to the bathroom. After disposing of the porridge from the big bowl completely such that it would not leave any trace, Evelyn walked back inside the chambers.

She fed Derrick the porridge from the smaller bowl.

At dinner, Evelyn again did the same.

However, the next day during breakfast, she herself ate from the smaller bowl. Evelyn knew that she also needed her own energy while taking care of Derrick.

Her body could still work on one time meal when she had gone hungry for many days when she was a slave.

As a few days passed with Evelyn doing the same, the physician also continued to come and feed Derrick the medicinal paste.

Once, he looked towards Evelyn and Evelyn felt nervous because she understood that he knew something. He seemed to understand that Derrick was no longer fed the poisonous food.

Evelyn was afraid that he would tell Raphael everything. However, after he left Raphael didn’t really come for the whole day and nothing strange happened.

Evelyn sighed in relief thinking that the physician was helping her silently.

Fortunately, Raphael didn’t come to visit her any longer because Evelyn could see that Derrick’s face was starting to gain its color back. He was recovering.

But Raphael or his people should not know about this.

However, as days passed, because of eating one or sometimes two times meals only, Evelyn started to lose weight. All the weight she had gained in the past few months because of having a proper diet was starting to vanish away.

Evelyn didn’t care. She just wished that she would be able to leave here before the prince would come to know about it. She didn’t want Raphael to use her to defeat the prince.

It was one afternoon when Evelyn was feeding the porridge to Derrick that she saw Derrick’s eyelashes moving.

Her eyes widened slightly and she let his head rest on the headrest as she waited in anticipation for him to wake up completely.

Derrick did open his eyes a few moments later and looked confused about his state.

"Your Majesty..."

Evelyn called out softly making him look at her. A deep frown marred Derrick’s forehead as he recognized Evelyn.

Evelyn could easily see the displeasure flashing through his eyes as he said

"What are you doing here?"

His voice was weak but still carried the same authority.

Evelyn lowered her head and replied politely

"Your Majesty, I have been locked here by Prince Raphael."

It took Derrick a few moments to register what Evelyn said. When he did, he looked shocked and unable to believe what Evelyn said.

However, before he could ask Evelyn anything, Evelyn heard footsteps and hurried him to lie down on the bed again.

"Your Majesty, please close your eyes and pretend to be unconscious. If they came to know that Your Majesty is awake then it would not be good for both of us."

Derrick frowned in confusion and didn’t do what Evelyn was saying.

Evelyn sighed in exasperation when she saw this. Her eyes were filled with panic when she realized that the footsteps were closer now.

She hurriedly pushed down Derrick to lie down on the bed without thinking.

Since Derrick’s body was still weak, he couldn’t oppose Evelyn’s strength and was pushed down on the bed in sleeping position.

Derrick looked incredulous at first before his eyes were filled with rage as he looked at Evelyn. However, Evelyn didn’t pay any more attention to him and set the curtains right before she walked away from the bed.

The guard looked at her with a frown seeing the smaller bowl in her hands.

But then he saw the empty big bowl on the tray and without saying anything, picked it up and then left the chambers.

Evelyn almost fell back on the ground with the relief that washed over her body.

After composing herself for a few moments, she walked back to the bed where Derrick was lying with open eyes.

Evelyn sighed heavily seeing that he didn’t really pretend to be unconscious. Fortunately, the curtain hid the bed. Otherwise, the guard would have come to know that Derrick was awake.

However, Derrick had also noticed everything. Through the translucent curtains, he had seen the guard coming inside and then going outside.

The guard didn’t even greet Evelyn. Whatever her past might be, Evelyn was now his son’s consort. Her status was still higher than the guard so he ought to greet her.

Seeing such disrespect and audacity, Derrick couldn’t help but believe Evelyn when she told him.

She was locked here by Raphael.

Derrick looked at her coldly when he saw her and asked

"What is going on here?"
