Chapter 228: In the Royal Chambers (1)
Evelyn told Derrick whatever she knew.
She told him how she was called to Royal Palace on his name and then locked here in this chamber by Raphael.
She also told him that Raphael was planning something and he already had his people inside Royal Palace who were helping him.
Derrick’s face was blank when he heard all this.
Evelyn thought that he was too shocked to know that his son was doing all this. She actually sympathized with him.
Seeing that Derrick didn’t ask her anything, Evelyn walked away from there and sat on the ground in front of the small gallery through which the entrance could be seen.
She was giving Derrick the time to process everything but she also wanted him to think of any solution to get out of the current situation.
The physician came to check on Derrick today again.
Evelyn was again afraid that the physician would come to know that Derrick was awake so as soon as she saw the physician at the entrance, she ran to the bed and said to Derrick.
"Your Majesty, you need to pretend to be unconscious. The physician is coming. If he came to know that Your Majesty is awake then he will tell everything to Prince Raphael."
Although the physician had indirectly helped her in the past few days, Evelyn couldn’t expect much from him.
She didn’t want to take any risk.
Fortunately, Derrick listened to her this time and closed his eyes. Evelyn sighed in relief.
The physician walked to the bed and took Derrick’s pulse like every day.
Then he took out fresh medicinal herbs from his white cotton bag and put them on the nearby table. When he was doing this, his back was facing the bed.
Still, when Derrick opened his eyes and looked at his back coldly, Evelyn felt her heart coming to his mouth. She looked at him with a pleading expression on her face, however, Derrick ignored her.
Hence, as soon as the physician turned around he was shocked to see the awake Derrick.
Then the next moment, he plopped down on his knees and called out in a fearful voice.
"Your Majesty!"
Derrick stared at his head coldly while Evelyn could feel her heart thudding inside her chest.
"So you are also involved with them. No wonder you didn’t tell me anything when I was unwell."
Derrick said coldly and the physician trembled on hearing the words.
His shoulders were shaking as he answered a few moments later.
"I am a sinner, Your Majesty. I would have never gone against Your Majesty but Prince Raphael has captured my daughter. My daughter is the only family I have. I had to do what His Highness wanted from me."
Derrick however didn’t look moved at all by the physician’s words. He only asked him coldly
"What is the situation outside?"
Evelyn’s attention was piqued by the question. She also wanted to know this.
"According to me, His Highness has infiltrated the servants and guards of the Royal Palace with his own people. Even the guards guarding Your Majesty’s chambers are His Highness’ people. Many new servants and guards are entering the Royal Palace every day. The subject has a guess that Prince wants to rebel soon when he feels that his people are more inside Royal Palace."
Derrick’s eyes shone with a cold glint of light as soon as the physician finished speaking.
He was about to say more when the sound of footsteps was heard and Evelyn immediately looked at Derrick who already knew what he was supposed to do.
He closed his eyes and Evelyn covered the bed with curtains so that whosoever was coming wouldn’t be able to see Derrick.
Even Derrick’s face would be able to tell anyone that he has recovered.
It was the guard who frowned seeing the physician on his knees.
"What are you doing?"
"I fell down."
The guard was still frowning and said
"You have been inside for longer than before."
Evelyn was scared when she heard these words. She looked at the physician whose own forehead was covered with sweat but he still replied
"I am done almost. I needed to put the fresh herbs today and then I fell ...so it took some time."
The guard looked at the table which was indeed filled with fresh herbs and nodded his head and said
"Leave now."
The physician immediately collected his cotton bag and left the chambers. After he left, the Royal guard looked at Evelyn before he also left.
Evelyn could finally heave a sigh of relief.
After that, there was again no conversation between her and Derrick.
Evelyn could sense that Derrick didn’t like her presence at all. But he had to bear it. She also didn’t have any choice.
She was relieved that the physician didn’t tell on them again.
She could also understand his helplessness. He had a daughter to save but he was still helping them as much as he could.
After a few moments, she suddenly realized that Derrick didn’t have his medicinal paste so she walked back to the bed.
Derrick was staring at the ceiling and seemed to be in deep thought when he sensed her presence and looked at her coldly.
"Your Majesty, you didn’t have your medicine. Should I bring it now?"
Evelyn had seen the physician preparing the paste. It was in the covered bowl which was placed on the table. She just needed to feed it to Derrick.
Derrick merely nodded his head and Evelyn picked the bowl from the table.
When she walked to the bed, she saw Derrick struggling to sit on the bed. She actually wanted to help but was uncertain if he would like that so she just waited for him silently.
When he was seated, she took the bowl near him.
As she held the bowl, Derrick picked up the spoon and ate on his own.
She could see that even the action of picking the spoon tired him out but he didn’t ask her for help at all. Evelyn thought that Derrick must be like those masters of hers who didn’t like their slaves to touch their food.
They thought that slaves would contaminate their food if they touched it.
He would perhaps have not let her touch the bowl as well but again he didn’t have any choice.
Derrick had his medicine silently.
After he was finished, he laid down on the bed again while Evelyn again sat on the floor leaning against the wall.
Closing her eyes, she also tried to get some rest but Regan’s thoughts never left her mind.
She wondered what he was doing, whether he was alright, whether he had his meals on time.
