The Masked prince
Chapter 224: The Restless Lavo

Chapter 224: The Restless Lavo

On the border, the soldiers were fighting against the enemy soldiers.

It was evening and the fight was stopped from both sides for some time. As soon as Zamorin’s soldiers started withdrawing, Regan called his soldiers back as well.

Their own soldiers were also tired. He could see that. Continuing the fight could only backfire on them.

Hence, both sides were resting for some time now.

"Regan, how many soldiers do you think William has brought?"

Rex and Regan were standing outside Rex’s tent and looking towards the border when Rex asked this question from his brother.

Regan was silent for a moment before he said

"Not more than thousand."

Rex nodded his head. His estimate was just that much. His eyes went to Regan from the border and he said

"Do you think that he could have gathered so many soldiers on his own?"

Regan shook his head. He had already thought about this.

"Someone is helping him."

"Or should we say one empire is helping him."

Rex said completing Regan’s suspicion.

However, they could do nothing about this right now. Yes, it was urgent to find out which empire was helping William against Alfaros but for now, it was more important to defeat William and end the war on battlefield.

"I will write a letter and send it to Royal Palace. His Majesty should look into it."

Regan merely nodded his head.

A few moments later, Elias walked to them with some documents in his hands.

"Your Highness, these are the things we might need in the coming days. The food is about to end but I think we will receive a new batch from Royal City soon. A few weeks had passed already so it must be near the border now."

Regan nodded his head.

Flipping through the documents, he asked Elias.

"What about the horses? Are they enough?"

Elias nodded his head as he said

"Yes, Your Highness. No horse is injured till now and we have not lost any except for one. It might have been lost in the battlefield. The horses just need rest and they would be ready for the battle by tomorrow."

Regan nodded his head. He gave back the documents to Elias a few moments later and said

"Send five soldiers to the most near village. They will buy some warm clothes for the soldiers. Take the money from my tent."

"Yes, Your Highness."

After this, Elias left to do the said chores.

The battle continued from the next day.

Almost three days later, both the sides stopped again for some rest.

Around an hour later, the commanders were seated around the fire to warm their bodies as they talked with each other and had dinner.

"I don’t think that it will last long now. Prince’s pet had killed many soldiers after returning. We still have more soldiers on our side. They would accept defeat within a week."

Other commanders agreed with him.

A few steps away, Regan and Rex were also seated amidst other soldiers. Both of them were already done with their dinner and Rex was going through the new documents Elias had prepared for the horses and food.

"The food has arrived already so it won’t be a problem for the new few weeks. Horses are also well maintained."

After going through the documents, Rex raised his head and saw a deep frown on Regan’s forehead. He followed Regan’s gaze and saw that Regan was looking towards Lavo who was sleeping on the ground a few steps away.

"Regan, what are you thinking?"

Regan looked at Rex before he asked

"Did you notice Lavo on the battlefield in the past few days?"

Rex nodded his head and Regan continued

"He had been too restless and angry these days."

"It might be because of the smell of the blood on the battlefield."

Rex said but Regan shook his head.

"He had never behaved like this before. You know that...he has lived with us for so many years on this same battlefield. The smell of blood excites him when he knows that he can hunt the person in front of him. It doesn’t make him so restless and angry."

Rex went silent at these words. In the end, he could ask Regan only

"Then what do you think is the reason?"

"In the past...as much as I have noticed, he behaves like this when I was surrounded by many enemies. When I was attacked by someone or when I was schemed against. Since I am connected to him, he feels my emotions to some extent."

"But you are alright."

Rex said immediately.

Regan nodded his head at the words.

"I am alright. But now I am not the only person who is connected to Lavo, Rex."

Rex’s eyes widened momentarily as he understood what Regan was trying to say. Other than Regan, now Evelyn was also connected to Lavo.

"Do you mean that Evelyn might be..."

"I hope I am wrong."

Regan said interrupting Rex’s words. His voice was cold and his fists were clenched tightly. Rex immediately held his fist and tried to comfort him.

"She must be alright, Regan."

Then the next moment, he smiled with a teasing expression on his face as he said

"She must be missing you...feeling all restless without her prince and hence Lavo feels her emotions. And Lavo might be angry because of you. You must be cursing William to initiate the war as you had to stay away from your beloved girl. I pity the poor Lavo now...sandwiched between the two of you."

Rex tsked and Regan looked at him coldly.

However, Rex was not discouraged. Knowing that he wouldn’t stop, Regan stood up from his spot and started to walk towards his tent.

He really hoped that Rex’s thoughts were correct.

On his way to the tent, when Regan saw Elias, he asked the latter.

"Any letter from Royal City?"

Elias shook his head and said

"Not yet, Your Highness."

Regan sighed and said

"Send the letter to me as soon as it comes...even if I am sleeping."

"Yes, Your Highness."

It was only then Regan went to his tent.
