Chapter 220: On The Border
Chapter 220: On The Border
Regan and Rex had reached the border within four days with the Royal army. The journey usually lasted for at least five days without a night’s sleep but they decided not to have much rest on the way.
With the war threatening to erupt any moment after five days, they couldn’t really rest and had to reach the border as soon as possible.
"Keep your eyes on him always."
Regan said to Elias as he stared at Arthur who was leaving his horse on the grass to graze.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Elias said respectfully but Regan was not convinced and said
"The moment he makes any kind of weird movement, I want to know immediately, Elias, Do you understand? If you were not able to do this, then I will be disappointed."
Elias’s head lowered in shame. He knew his master’s words were because of how he was unable to protect Evelyn during the banquet.
His face was red because of the shame he felt but he still said firmly.
"I understand, Your Highness."
Elias would never wish to disappoint his master.
On the fourth day when they reached the border, the soldiers already on the border were rather surprised to see so many soldiers returning.
"We have received information that there might be a war within two days."
Rex told the soldiers who were left shocked. The middle-aged General who was commanding the soldiers in Rex and Reagn’s absence also looked shocked and said
"But we didn’t sense any movement from another side. If they are to attack so soon, then they should be at least making some preparations on the other side."
The other side was already won and hence was surveyed every day. They have not sensed any movement from the other side until now so the General found it hard to believe what Rex said.
Even Rex didn’t have anything to say in response so he looked at Regan. Regan on the other hand looked at Arthur who looked calm and didn’t say anything.
In the end, Regan ordered the soldiers to make their tents as the sun was about to set.
That night, many soldiers were guarding the border.
Regan wrote a letter and send it to Evelyn through Lavo. Standing outside his tent, he looked towards the border.
He actually didn’t think that there would be any war.
According to what he was thinking, all of it was Arthur’s plan to keep him away from Royal City where Evelyn was. Arthur might have made plans to take Evelyn away in his absence but he had already spoiled his plans by bringing Arthur with him here.
Regan’s eyes went towards Elias who was standing outside Arthur’s tent. He let Elias do it visibly.
Regan didn’t find any need to hide that he was wary of Arthur.
Arthur said that there would be war so when they would be no war, he should be available to answer the questions.
With one last cold glance at Arthur’s tent, he went back inside the tent.
A helpless smile graced his lips as he lay down on the bed and closed his eyes.
Now that he had allowed her inside his heart and mind, she never left him alone even when he wanted to miss her less.
Regan found sleep somehow.
They waited for the next few days for the attack. As the days passed, Regan felt more certain about what he had thought.
After more than a week had passed, Regan finally decided to confront Arthur in front of everyone.
"Didn’t Sir Arthur say that the attack would be within five days? More than a week has passed now. Does Sir Arthur have any explanation?"
Arthur looked at Regan with a bored expression on his face when he heard the question and said calmly
"I just gave the letter I found to His Majesty. Acting on it or not was His Majesty’s choice so Your Highness so put this question in front of His Majesty."
Regan looked at Arthur coldly. If Arthur was thinking that he could save himself using this excuse then he was very wrong.
The same night, Regan announced that they would leave half army here and then leave tomorrow morning.
However, Regan had never expected that the same night the attack would happen.
"Your Highness!."
Regan heard Elias’ shout and immediately stepped outside.
Elias had wide eyes as he looked at his master and said
"Your Highness, we can see many soldiers moving towards the border from the other side. They seem to be preparing to attack anytime."
Needless to say, Regan was shocked because he had not expected this.
His eyes unconsciously went towards Arthur’s tent who was already standing outside.
When their eyes matched, Arthur sneered coldly and Regan’s eyes sharpened.
Just what kind of plans this man has!
Before he was sure that he had already spoiled Arthur’s plans but now Regan suddenly had doubts in his mind.
Could it be that it was some kind of trap and he was falling into it?
"Regan!"
Regan came out of his trance and looked at Rex and the General, surrounding him. He composed himself immediately and said
"Wake up all the soldiers. We need to stay prepared to defend. General, you will go and try to find out about the situation on the other side."
The middle-aged General nodded his head and almost half an hour later, he was standing near the border between two Empires with a narrow pipe in his hand which went wide from outside.
"Soldiers on the other side...we ask you to leave immediately if the purpose for the stay is not war."
General asked loudly speaking in the pipe so that his voice could reach the other side. It amplified his voice to some extent.
A few moments passed before the reply came from the other side.
"We want war! We want our Zamorin back."
It was the soldiers’ roar which replied General back.
The General had a somber expression as he turned to look at Regan.
Regan looked towards the border coldly. His eyes then went towards Arthur as he said
"If they want war, they shall have a war!"
