Chapter 221: Shock

Evelyn didn’t know why but even the walk inside the Royal Palace to the Royal chambers felt very weird. She felt goosebumps rising on her body as she saw so many maids, servants, and guards in every corridor.

The last time when she stepped inside Royal Palace, she was certain that there were not so many people in Royal Palace back then...or perhaps she didn’t remember clearly.

Still, an eerie feeling continued to surround her heart.

A maid was leading them to the Royal chambers.

Evelyn felt more guarded when they reached the Royal chambers. The guards standing outside the Royal chambers were not the same.

Or did they change duty according to day or night? But she remembered that last time, she was here in the morning only.

"We have been called by His Majesty."

Isla said to the guards who looked at Evelyn and nodded their heads, allowing her inside.

"My Lady..."

Evelyn who was separated from Isla because of the spears using which they blocked Isla’s way suddenly felt her heart sinking inside her chest.

"His Majesty wishes to see only Princess Consort."

The Guard said coldly and Evelyn gulped knowing that she would have to go inside alone.

She nodded her head at Isla assuring her that she would be out soon but she was assuring herself more.

Evelyn’s hands clutched her dress as she lifted it slightly and walked further inside. Her head was low all the time knowing that she was going to see the King himself.

Till now, she was unable to understand why the King called her. Did he receive some kind of news from the border? Was her prince fine?

The questions surrounded Evelyn’s mind and that was also the reason that she was here despite how much her heart was palpitating because of the fear she was feeling.

Evelyn frowned as she crossed the gallery to walk inside the huge hall. A very strong smell of medicinal herbs wafted through her nose...the same smell which used to occupy Dan’s working room.

Raising her head slightly, Evelyn dared to look in the front. She also needed to know if she was at the right place and where the king was so that she could greet him.

Surprisingly, Evelyn found the huge chair in front of her was vacant.

She frowned in confusion as she looked around the huge chambers. Her eyes stopped at the bed which was surrounded by translucent curtains.

Evelyn’s frown deepened as she felt as if there was someone on the other side of the curtains.

"Greetings, Your Majesty..."

Evelyn called out as she curtsied respectfully. However, there was no response from the other side. Was the King asleep?

But if that was so then the guards would not have allowed her inside.

With confusion-filled eyes, Evelyn dared to step closer to the bed.

"Your Majesty"

Evelyn called out again but she saw no movement on the other side of the curtain. Without thinking anything, Evelyn stepped closer and slid the curtain slightly but what she saw made her eyes widen in shock and a scream abruptly escaped her lips.

Evelyn stumbled as she stepped back and hence fell down on the ground. Her face was pale as she looked towards the bed.

A man was lying on the bed and his face was as white as sheet. His hands were tied to the bed and Evelyn even saw some blood on his clothes.

She had not seen the King before but seeing his majestic clothes, Evelyn had a feeling that he was none other than King Derrick.

What was going on? Why was Derrick like this...did the guards outside not know about his condition?

"So you are finally here?"

Evelyn flinched when she heard the voice and turned around with her eyes still filled with fear which only increased when she saw the man walking towards her.

It was none other than Raphael.

Raphael smirked when he saw the fear in her eyes and her pale face. Seeing the slightly parted curtain, he tsked suddenly as he leaned in front of her when he was near her and grabbed her chin roughly.

"I see....so you have already witnessed everything. Tsk...I wanted to enjoy the horror on your face and in your eyes by showing it to you later on."

Evelyn looked at Raphael with an incredulous expression on her face as if unable to believe his words.

He knew everything.

She looked towards the bed again in confusion and then suddenly stood up. However, as soon as she turned around, Raphael grabbed her arm and dragged her back roughly. Evelyn winced because of the tight grip on her arm and looked at him coldly.

Raphael was surprised for a moment before he smiled coldly seeing her cold face which didn’t have any fear.

"I see...you seem to have grown wings while staying with that b****d, huh?"

Evelyn had a feeling that he was talking about Regan and her glare at him intensified more because of this. Raphael chuckled coldly as if he was enjoying some sort of play and asked

"Where were you going?"

Evelyn struggled to get her arm free instead of answering but when she was unable to do so she looked at Raphael and said coldly

"His Majesty needs a doctor urgently. I am going to tell the guards that they should call for Royal Physician."

Evelyn frowned when Raphael chuckled at her words but did leave her arm.

She looked at him in confusion but only for a moment before she ran towards the entrance of the chambers where Royal guards were standing.

"His Majesty is injured and sick. Please call Royal physician for him."

Evelyn said to Royal Guards but she was confused when they didn’t even look toward her. Her confusion increased when she didn’t see Isla anywhere. Wasn’t Isla waiting for her there?

However, at this moment, treating His Majesty was more important.

Thinking this, Evelyn looked at the guards again and this time said authoritatively.

"I am ordering you to do something. Bring a Royal Physician for His Majesty."

However, the Royal Guard stood looking straight as if she was not even standing there. Evelyn breathed heavily because of the anger and panic she was feeling.

Everything seems to be wrong here.

And she was sure of that as she tried to take a step out of the chambers. The guards blocked her way with their spears and said

"Her Highness can’t step out."
