Chapter 213: Leaving

Rex was unaware of what Regan did exactly to bring Arthur back. But Arthur indeed returned within an hour.

As Rex looked at Arthur whose eyes were cold and filled with anger yet he tried to mask his anger with a polite smile, Rex smiled in pride looking at his brother.

He was curious to know what Regan did. But he felt proud that Regan solved such a problem without letting anger cloud his mind.

Regan was changing slowly. Rex knew that this change was because of Evelyn. Regan considered Evelyn as his responsibility. Before he didn’t care about himself so he never thought before offending anyone including those ministers and Derrick. Even if he was put inside the prison as punishment, Rex was sure that Regan didn’t care.

This fearless attitude of Regan made him look stubborn, arrogant, and rude in front of others’ eyes.

But now Regan thought before acting.

He knew that if he was punished then he wouldn’t be able to protect Evelyn so he would look out for himself as well. Rex couldn’t be thankful to Evelyn anymore.

Rex came out of his trance when he heard Regan welcoming Arthur.

"Welcome Sir Arthur to this Prince’s humble Palace again."

Regan’s words only provoked Arthur more who stared at Regan coldly. Regan continued to smile calmly in response to this glare and even said

"I hope Sir Arthur is finally willing to accompany us and help in the war."

Arthur was silent for a long time but there were many soldiers present there so he knew that he would have to reply regardless of how much he wished otherwise.

So he had to grit his teeth and spat out.

"Yes, Your Highness."

Regan nodded his head in satisfaction and said

"We will leave soon then."

Saying this, Regan went back to doing his own work.

Finding some time when they were alone, Rex finally asked Regan

"What did you do?"

Regan stopped looking at the box of weapons he was checking and turned to look at Arthur.

"Nothing...just wrote a letter to His Majesty. If Sir Arthur doesn’t wish to accompany us then I would also like to stop here and help Raphael."

Rex blinked and then suddenly laughed while shaking his head. A moment later, he sighed and whispered

"And here I thought you did one work without threatening someone."

The words indirectly sounded like a threat.

If Regan stayed here, then that would be a serious setback for Alfaros. Regan was a very good commander and even Rex would accept that Regan could manage everything more better than him.

They also have Lavo as an advantage on their side whom they could use to defeat so many soldiers at once. But Lavo could be controlled by Regan only.

Hence, Regan’s departure for the border was a must.

Derrick had to bow his head this time in front of Regan’s threat.

Rex shook his head and sighed again as he said

"Still, it is better than before. You didn’t at least call Lavo and made him kill a few people to threaten His Majesty. You are more patient than before."

Rex said and Regan looked thoughtful realizing that what Rex said was right.

"Indeed"

He whispered without any emotion on his face.

After that, they started to look at the supplies together.

Almost an hour later, Regan went to the room to meet Evelyn.

He pushed the door gently and saw Evelyn seated on the table as she wrote each and every word on the paper carefully. The sight made him feel wonder how he was going to stay without her on the border for an unpredictable amount of time.

If only he could take her with himself ....

But Regan couldn’t.

The battlefield required him to be ruthless and cold. He needed to stay in control all the time. He would have to cover his hands in blood to kill enemies.

Evelyn would not be able to handle all this including the hard living conditions on the border.

He wanted her to have a happy and peaceful life regardless of what was going on outside this Palace. The sufferings she had gone through in her past had been enough for her. Regan already felt angry that he found her so late.

Now he only wanted to give her happiness.

Regan was standing at the door while staring at Evelyn who could feel the constant gaze on herself and raised her head. When she saw Regan, a smile immediately graced her lips and her eyes brightened as she put down the brush and called out

"Your Highness."

Regan didn’t show it on his face but his heart went faster at such a sight. The way her eyes brightened up seeing him...as if she had been waiting for him all the time.

He sighed yet again as he closed the distance between them.

She was making it more difficult for him to leave.

Regan didn’t pull her closer this time. Because he was afraid that it would make things only more difficult. And Evelyn was never one to walk on her own in his arms and hug him.

Hence, they stood in front of each other with a distance of a few steps between them.

"I need to leave now."

He whispered and cursed inside his heart when he saw the brightness dimming in Evelyn’s eyes slowly. But what could he even do?

Still, she maintained a smile on her face and said

"Your Highness must take care of himself."

Regan nodded his head. There was silence between them for some time before Regan said

"I will be leaving fifty soldiers here ...just in case they were needed. Ezra and Elliot will train them."

Ezra and Elliot were the knights given to Evelyn by Regan. Evelyn nodded her head understanding what he was saying.

Regan didn’t have anything to say after that and licked his lips before he said

"I will leave then."

Evelyn nodded again. Regan was silently disappointed. He looked as if he wanted her to say something but when she didn’t, he turned around to leave.

It was only when he was at the door that he heard her suddenly

"Your Highness..."

Regan turned around immediately.

Her eyes were fixed on and there was a soft smile on her lips as she said to him.

"I will wait for you."

Regan smiled as he nodded his head.

Those were perhaps the most beautiful words he had ever heard in his life.

He thought as he finally stepped out of the room to leave.
