Chapter 214: The Knights

The Royal Army set out for departure.

Many people from the city followed the soldiers to the border.

Evelyn watched from the scene window of the room. Her eyes could easily find the horse on which Regan was seated. In the sky, she saw Lavo flying just above the prince’s horse.

The giant creature was following the prince.

As if it felt her gaze, it even turned to look towards the window. Evelyn raised her head immediately waving it slightly.

When Lavo growled suddenly, she knew that it was his response to her wave.

She smiled slightly but it was a sad one. Her eyes again went to the crowd but this time, she stilled when she saw a person looking towards her.

It was none other than Arthur seated on his horse who was looking toward her. Evelyn didn’t look at Arthur for more than a second.

She remembered that the prince had asked her not to look into Arthur’s eyes. According to Dan, Arthur’s spell worked when one looked into his eyes.

Even though Evelyn looked away, she felt his gaze the whole time she kept looking at Regan’s horse but she still stood there.

Even after Regan’s horse disappeared out of her sight completely, she stood there.

An emptiness suddenly filled her heart and she felt slightly lost suddenly.

He had not even left the city yet and she was starting to feel like this. Evelyn took a deep breath and comforted herself.

She had many things to do as the mistress of the castle. She will keep herself busy. It won’t be long before the prince returns.

"My Lady..."

Evelyn came out of her trance and turned around to look at Isla.

Isla was the maid given to her by Regan with Ezra and Elliot. Not only she was responsible to take care of Evelyn’s health, she also ought to protect Evelyn in difficult times.

Isla was a trained knight. Evelyn was surprised when Regan told her this because she had never seen a woman knight before.

Actually, Regan himself didn’t have a knight. Elias was not Regan’s knight but he did everything that a knight did.

Perhaps Regan didn’t care about the title his people had as long as they were loyal to him. But Isla, Ezra, and Elliot...the three of them bore the title of knights.

"Should I serve lunch, My Lady?"

Evelyn heard Isla asking and shook her head absentmindedly.

She was not feeling hungry at all. However, in response, Isla smiled slightly yet when she spoke her voice was firm

"My Lady must not miss the three meals. His Highness asked me to ensure this otherwise he will punish me for not taking care of My Lady."

Evelyn blinked on hearing these words.

Then lowered her head. He was so thoughtful. Did he know that she would not take care of herself when he would leave?

Evelyn felt as if she was starting to miss Regan more and more by each passing second.

She sighed and asked Isla to serve the lunch. She needed to keep herself busy.

Yet when lunch came, Evelyn couldn’t even finish half of her plate. She continued to remember how Regan used to put things on her plate from time to time. How he would urge her to eat more and more because she needed to train a lot!

"Is My Lady missing His Highness?"

Evelyn raised her head and looked at Isla who asked this question. She didn’t say yes but the sadness in her eyes spoke enough.

Isla smiled calmly and looked deep in thought as she said

"Her Highness, Princess Regina used to do the same when Her Majesty and His Majesty would be away for some work."

Isla’s words surprised Evelyn and she couldn’t help but ask

"You know His Highness’ mother."

Isla smiled and nodded her head. She put more food on Evelyn’s plate and gave the spoon in her hand as she spoke.

"Mazic had many knights before. I remember reading in a book that His Majesty had almost fifty knights serving him."

Evelyn was surprised at this information. She looked at Isla waiting for her to continue as she raised her spoon and ate.

"Unfortunately, after His Majesty’s health deteriorated, he announced Princess Regina as his heir and many knights refused to serve a woman as their master."

Isla’s face was cold when she said the last few words. Even Evelyn was frowning deeply but she felt impressed with Princess Regina when Isla continued

"Her Highness didn’t mind this. She allowed those who wanted to leave. After this, only ten knights were left in Mazic. But Her Highness still managed Mazic very well. Initially, she had to face many problems because of her red eyes."

"Why?"

Evelyn frowned deeply.

Even the prince had red eyes but she found them very beautiful. She felt confused about why Regina had to face problems because of her red eyes.

Isla sighed before she told Evelyn

"His Majesty and Her Majesty...none of them had red eyes but the princess had red eyes something which the people in Mazic found hard to accept. They thought that princess was not of Royal blood so they didn’t feel any respect towards her that a leader and ruler demanded. However....His Majesty adored Princess a lot. It is said that Princess was born after seven years of marriage when His Majesty had lost all hopes of having an heir. That’s why, when the princess was born, he treated her like his heir from the start. He trained her with men, never getting merciful just because she was a girl. Still, when the princess ascended the throne, she had to face much resistance. However, as time passed, she proved herself to be the true ruler by looking out for poor people and by protecting Mazic from invaders and enemies."

"I was an orphan and she had visited the streets once. I used to idolize her a lot. So when she asked me if I wanted her to find a family for me who will raise me as their child, I refused and said I wanted to protect her when I grew up. The knights took me into their shelter and trained me. There, I found Ezra and Elliot."
