Chapter 212: The Excuse

Chapter 212: The Excuse

Evelyn nodded her head after she understood Regan’s intentions. A moment later, she said suddenly

"I will go to my room, Your Highness, and practice the words Your Highness taught me."

Regan could tell very well that she was doing this to avoid coming across Arthur. But he didn’t expose her. He in fact didn’t find any need for her to meet Arthur.

He looked at her with a smile and said in almost a whisper

"I am waiting for the time when you will be comfortable enough to call me by my name."

Evelyn stiffened slightly at these words making Regan sigh.

He had actually asked her to call him by his name before as well but she always had this uncomfortable expression on her face and went stiff completely whenever he brought up this matter.

He knew that it was the training she received as a slave which was ingrained in her mind. It stopped her from crossing some boundaries sometimes which were not even needed between them.

But he needed to wait patiently.

As much as he felt disappointed, he didn’t wish to force her for anything and make her uncomfortable. Putting a smile on his lips, he kissed her forehead again and said

"Go to the room then. I will come to see you once before leaving."

Evelyn nodded her head. Relief could be seen in her eyes for Regan didn’t pursue this matter.

With one last glance at Regan, she finally left from there.

Regan took his own time in going to meet Arthur.

He first went where Rex was motivating the soldiers. Leaving their families here was a very hard decision for anyone when no one was sure if they would return alive or not.

A soldier needed constant motivation to fight on the battlefield as the leader of such a huge army, it was their duty to motivate them.

Regan also checked on the supplies arranged by the Royal Palace and the people of the cities.

When he went to see Arthur, almost an hour had passed since the latter arrival.

Arthur glared at him as soon as Regan stepped inside the living room...clearly pissed off because of the delay in his arrival. However, Regan ignored his glare calmly and said

"Sir Arthur, I hope His Majesty had already told you what you are supposed to do."

Arthur looked at Regan coldly and took out a paper from his robe.

"Your Highness, I have written about all the techniques Prince William can use on the battlefield on this paper for you. I can assure you that except this, I don’t anything about the strategies Prince William uses. I don’t think there is any need for my company to the battlefield now."

Regan stared at Arthur emotionlessly.

His hand which was on his knee clenched to form fist.

Arthur’s wish to stay here only made him guess more stronger that he was planning to do something in his absence.

He would be a fool if he still left Arthur here after having an inkling of his intentions.

Regan smiled coldly as he said

"Why is Sir Arthur so unwilling to go to the border? Is it because of the border’s hard living conditions? I am sure that Sir Arthur is not that fragile. Your body seems capable and you seem to possess many skills to save yourself."

The way Regan emphasized the word ’skills’ almost had Arthur feel strange for a moment. But then he ignored his sixth sense and said the excuse he had readied.

"Your Highness, I need to help Prince Raphael here. So I can’t accompany Your Highness."

Regan frowned wondering when Raphael and Arthur got so close to each other. His people didn’t tell him about all this.

But at this moment, Arthur needed more of his attention.

Looking at Arthur who looked firm not to go to the border, Regan stood up from the couch he was seated on and said coldly

"Sir Arthur can go back to Royal Palace then. However, what comes after this ...Sir Arthur must not blame this prince for that."

Arthur frowned wondering what could even Regan do after this.

Regan had said that he wanted his help to fight William but Arthur had already made a very good excuse to avoid Regan.

But he didn’t care much about this and left the Palace silently.

When Arthur stepped outside the room, he came across Rex. He only nodded his head in greeting to Rex and then left from there. Looking at his back, Rex frowned as he stepped inside the room and asked Regan

"Why did he leave? Is he not supposed to accompany us?"

"He doesn’t wish to."

Regan said coldly and Rex’s frown deepened.

"He dares to refuse."

"He has ready excuses in his favor."

Regan said as he passed the paper given by Arthur to Rex. Rex opened the paper and saw the sketches drawn by Arthur of the battlefield and the words written on them.

Arthur had described how the labyrinth could be formed by William on the battlefield. However, Rex threw the paper away as if it was a waste and said

"These are already used tactics. Does he think of us as a fool?"

"He does."

Regan said in response.

Rex looked at Regan with narrowed eyes and asked suddenly

"You have already thought of something, right? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been so calm."

Regan looked at Rex and smiled suddenly making Rex startled for a moment. Actually, he had seen Regan smiling in Evelyn’s presence only until now or he only smiled in Evelyn’s absence when it was something about Evelyn only.

But this time Regan was smiling at him, that too quite sincerely as he said

"You know me very well."

Rex chuckled when he heard this and put his hand on Regan’s shoulder, secretly finding this moment to be very special. A smile lingered on his lips despite the tense situation they were in as he said

"Of Course. But what are you going to do now?"

Regan merely shrugged in response and said

"Just wait. He will come back running in some time."
