The Masked prince -
Chapter 204: The Curious Rex
Chapter 204: The Curious Rex
To some extent, she was relieved.
Though she had expressed her agreement, she had wondered if she deserved such a scared connection to Lavo as the prince did.
The prince was strong and capable enough to tame a creature as giant as Lavo. But she didn’t possess any kind of capability.
Hence, Evelyn could put aside this matter now as she didn’t feel any change.
Lavo’s connecting to her didn’t change anything but Regan’s confession did. Now the prince’s eyes at her suddenly held another meaning.
Evelyn felt bashful every time she found him looking at her. While stepping down the stairs, when Regan held her hand, she didn’t struggle to free her hand even though she was aware that there was no need to pretend now.
There was no Lady Irwin, Lady Bennett and Laurel in the palace now.
Yet, Regan and Evelyn held their hands as they walked inside the dining room.
Rex could immediately notice the change when both of them stepped inside the dining room. He was surprised as he looked at their joined hands.
When he saw the shine in Regan’s usual cold red eyes, Rex was shocked for a moment.
Did something happen?
Here he was thinking of some presumptuous plans to get them closer in absence of Lady Irwin...Looking at Evelyn’s red cheeks, Rex suddenly wondered if these two people even needed his help or not? Could it be that this time Regan went ahead of him and did something out of his expectations? Rex looked at his brother with curiosity filled eyes.
Regan only smiled at him and ignored his question filled eyes as he pulled the chair for Evelyn. After she was seated comfortably, he sat down beside her.
Elias and Rex witnessed how Regan served the dishes in Evelyn’s plate. It was not a new sight yet it felt as if it was a new sight.
Because the two of them suddenly looked closer than before.
Elias respectfully moved his gaze away and concentrated on his meal but Rex was not that decent.
Throughout the whole meal, his eyes never moved away from Regan and Evelyn.
While Evelyn didn’t raise her head to look at Rex, she could feel his gaze. Regan who felt her discomfort turned to look at Rex with warning filled eyes but the latter merely smiled at her as if saying that he would not leave them alone until he gets to know everything.
Regan glared at Rex again before blocking his sight on Evelyn.
In the meaningful silence, everyone finished their meal. After they were done, Evelyn stood up first. Regan frowned and held her hand as if worrying that she would leave immediately.
He was on pins and needles as he was scared that Evelyn might suddenly distance herself away from him because of his confession.
As if she could sense her fear, Evelyn smiled softly and said
"Your Highness, I will once go and talk to the maid. I had asked her to gather some servants so that we could hire more. Due to my absence, I am afraid that the work is still hanging in between."
Regan was reluctant but before he could say anything, Rex meddled in between and said
"Yes, yes. You should go. As the mistress of this Palace, you are being more responsible than its masters."
Rex said ignoring his brother’s glare.
He even walked to them and made Regan leave his hand and smiled at Evelyn gently. Evelyn looked at Regan hesitantly before she turned around to leave.
She didn’t say but she actually needed some time alone to process everything that happened today.
Regan frowned as she looked at her back until she had completely disappeared. He then glared at Rex with a deeper frown on his forehead.
Rex rolled his eyes as he sat where Evelyn was sitting before, literally scoffing when he saw his brother’s glare deepening.
"Don’t look at me like that. I don’t have any wish to take your wife’s place by your side. Now tell me, what happened?"
Regan looked at his brother who looked no different from an old lady eager for some gossip and frowned in disgust.
Rex suddenly placed his hand above his heart as he said
"I am wounded by that expression of yours, Regan. Do you even know how much hard work this brother of yours have done so that you would not get your heart broken by your beloved?"
Regan sighed as he suddenly wiped his face with his hands.
"You won’t leave me without getting to know, right?"
Regan’s words seemed more like a statement than question. Rex nodded his head shamelessly.
Elias was a silent spectator to all this.
"I confessed to Evelyn."
Regan said calmly.
"You did what?"
Rex who heard Regan’s words suddenly slipped his chin on his fist and said out aloud.
"I confessed."
Regan said again and looked at Rex with a frown again wondering what was wrong with his words.
"She...did she take it well?"
Rex asked in concern. The way Evelyn looked so empty yet cold when she had told them her past, Rex was sure that she still had not moved on and it was understandable.
That was a big trauma for her. Seeing someone being killed in front of your eyes, being molested by someone at such a young age, and having people whom you called family deceiving you in the end ...it was something that could leave a shadow in even an adult’s heart than Evelyn was just a child back then.
That was the reason that Rex had asked Regan to go slow.
As he remembered Evelyn’s red cheeks when she entered the dining room, she didn’t seem upset.
Rex was relieved but only to some extent.
"I told her that she doesn’t need to answer me now. She can take her time."
Rex nodded though there was a somber expression on his face.
"Why did you ...so suddenly?"
He asked without completing his question. He was actually afraid that his brother’s relationship with Evelyn might suffer a setback after this.
"I made a connection between Evelyn and Lavo."
Not only Rex but even Elias was surprised when they heard this.
