Chapter 198: Dan’s Guess

Dan’s attention was immediately picked by Elias when he heard these words and he asked Elias

"What kind of peculiar behvaiour?"

"He kept repeating the same sentence again and again despite what I asked him. And his eyes were blank ...as if he couldn’t hear me at all. He looked as if he was standing in front of me but his brain was somewhere else."

Hearing Elias’ words, Dan fell silent.

However, Dan also looked very somber. As he stroked his beard, he inhaled sharply.

He had a guess. But he somewhere wished that it was not true.

Evelyn woke up exactly two hours later. Regan was by her side when she woke up.

"Evelyn..."

Regan called out softly when he saw that she was opening her eyes. Realizing that the room’s brightness was making her uncomfortable, he immediately blew off the lamp placed on the bedside.

Evelyn opened her eyes slowly. There was confusion in her eyes for a few moments when she stared at Regan before she called out a few moments later.

"Your Highness..."

"Evelyn, how are you feeling? Do you need something?"

In front of his wife, Regan was like a husband who could do anything to make her comfortable. Evelyn didn’t know why she felt slightly emotional seeing this.

Perhaps because she was feeling weak.

When she didn’t say anything for a few moments, Regan was worried and immediately shouted for the maid to call Dan.

Dan came to the room a few moments later and checked Evelyn’s pulse again. Of Course, he didn’t find anything wrong with her.

Evelyn was surprised to see him and called out softly

"Grandpa..."

Dan had asked her to call him this way back then when she was in Mazic. Dan smiled and patted her hand as he said

"How are you feeling now?"

"My head hurts slightly ..."

Evelyn whispered and her hand unconsciously went to her temple.

Dan nodded his head and said

"I will make a paste and apply it on your forehead. It will give you some relief."

He was silent for a few moments before he asked

"When did you start feeling a headache?"

Evelyn frowned as if she was trying to remember but she couldn’t remember anything.

"I don’t know..."

She whispered helplessly and tears filled her eyes. The headache seemed to increase if she tried to remember. She didn’t know why but her mind was too messed up. Dan immediately comforted her and said

"It’s alright. No need to remember."

Then he smiled gently and stated

"Rest well. You will be fine tomorrow."

Evelyn nodded her head and silently closed her eyes after that. When she was deeply asleep, Regan looked at Dan with question-filled eyes.

Dan sighed as he signed Regan to follow him out of the room.

Rex and Elias were already waiting outside the room since the moment they came to know that Evelyn was awake.

"What is wrong with her? Is she fine?"

Regan asked Dan as soon as they stepped outside the room.

Dan sighed yet again and said

"I am not sure yet. Your Highness, Elias brought a man to me and his condition seemed to be the same as that of Evelyn."

Regan frowned and looked at Elias.

Elias immediately opened his mouth to tell Regan whatever happened in the banquet. How that man came to him and kept speaking the same sentence again and again.

"This was a trap for us."

Rex whispered suddenly when Elias finished.

"His Majesty had never called me as well. But a maid came and said to me that I have been called. Now that I remember carefully even that maid seemed to be quite persistent."

Rex suddenly understood everything and raised his head to look at Regan who was already looking cold.

"It is him."

Regan said coldly and Elias and Rex understood who he was talking about.

"He knew that as long as Evelyn was with us, he would not be able to approach her, so he laid this trap. But what did he do to Evelyn? Why does she not remember anything?"

When Regan finished, he looked at Dan.

Dan’s lips were pressed in a thin line and he had a grim expression on his face. He didn’t know who Regan was talking about but he had an inkling that whosoever it was, he was a good opponent.

"The man brought by Elias also gained consciousness before I came to check on Evelyn. He also said that he doesn’t remember anything."

"This is getting more and more complicated."

Rex said in frustration.

"What kind of man this Arthur is? What did he do that they don’t remember anything?"

"I have a guess but again...Your Highness, I am not certain because it is very rare for such a thing to happen."

Dan said and Regan signed him to continue.

Dan took a deep breath before he continued

"I had faced such a situation years ago...when I was still in the apprenticeship period. I, with my master, had gone to the village of Zamorin. Back then, the relations between two Empires didn’t use to be so hostile and we were allowed to go there. We have faced such a situation there as well. Apparently, girls suddenly started to lose their virginity the next morning and they didn’t remember anything when they woke up."

"My master had to look into this case deeply but not as a physician but as an investigator. It was almost a year later that we got to know what the problem was. One of the men in the village knew a very peculiar skill. He could control the mind of others. Make them do as he wanted, make them say what he wanted them to and even make them kill themselves if he wanted them to."

Rex, Regan, and Elias were shocked when they heard Dan.

They never knew that such a thing existed.

"What happened to the men?"

"He ran away."

Dan answered grimly and then continued a few moments later.

"I am afraid that someone had tried to do the same with Evelyn."
