Chapter 197: Secrets And Confusion

Elias had already put the man, he had locked in servant quarters, in one of the carriages. Surprisingly, when Elias went to get the man, he found him unconscious. However, he didn’t have the time to ponder much about this. He just picked the man, packed him inside a sack, and then threw the sack on his shoulder.

When he stepped out, a guard did ask him what he was carrying and Elias saved himself by saying that he was bringing the leftover veggies out of the Royal Palace. After all, the royal family members could not eat anything stale.

The excuse was very reasonable and the guard didn’t stop him.

Hence, Elias easily got out of the Palace.

Rex and Regan saw him putting the sack in a carriage and Rex, who was more observant than the guard, needed only one glance to know that there was a live human inside the sack.

Regan’s attention was on no one except for Evelyn.

"Rex, I will leave first with Lavo."

Rex nodded his head understanding that the carriage would take more time and Lavo would reach faster than these carriages.

Regan shouted Lavo’s name only once and soon Lavo could be seen flying towards him across the sky. Within a few seconds, Regan left with unconscious Evelyn on Lavo’s back.

Indeed, Regan reached his Palace sooner because of Lavo.

It was out of his expectations that as soon as he would step inside the living room carrying Evelyn in his arms, he would find Dan standing there.

It had been more than a week since he had sent a letter to Dan asking him to come to Alfaros. Regan had received a letter where Dan had refused to come to Alfaros.

Dan had said that he didn’t wish to leave Mazic and Regan himself had told him that he would only need to stay in the castle of Mazic while offering him the job of a physician in the castle.

Regan could not force Dan.

He knew that the latter had saved Evelyn’s life almost twice now. He knew that Evelyn also respected Dan. And she would only be upset if he brought Dan here against his will.

But seeing Dan here today, Regan was first surprised and then relieved.

"Dan, check her. I don’t know what happened. She suddenly went unconscious."

Dan immediately walked to Regan. He had not been expecting to get a patient as soon as he reached the Palace.

But putting aside his grumpiness, he looked at Evelyn’s pale face and said seriously

"First take her to the room."

Then he turned to look at the maid and said

"Bring some cold water and a clean cloth to the room."

The maid was from Mazic’s castle only and she knew who Dan was so she obeyed him immediately while Regan had already walked to Evelyn and his room.

Dan followed behind him.

Once inside the room, he looked at Regan who had sat beside Evelyn without leaving any place for him to check.

Dan’s lips twitched as he said

"Since you have occupied my place...now treat her as well."

Regan immediately realized his mistake. If it was some other time, Dan would have surely been the victim of Regan’s cold gaze but at this moment, Regan was too worried about Evelyn to look at Dan.

"Why is it that whenever she goes out with you, either she returns unconscious or injured."

Dan asked with a serious expression on his face as he opened Evelyn’s eyes with his fingers and checked her pulse.

Regan who heard his question didn’t have any word to say in his defense. This time, he didn’t let his insecurities envelope him.

Regan knew that somewhere something went wrong and he would investigate it.

Once Evelyn wakes up, he needed to interrogate Elias about what happened.

On the other hand, Dan had now a very deep frown on his forehead.

"Is she alright?"

Regan couldn’t help but ask.

Dan raised his head and the same frown was still there on his forehead as he said

"I don’t understand why she is unconscious. Everything seems alright with her. In fact, her body constitution is better than before."

These were the same words the physician had said a week ago when Evelyn had gone unconscious in the Royal Court.

At that time, Regan had thought the physician didn’t have enough knowledge.

But Dan was a very experienced physician.

"Are you sure?"

Regan asked Dan again who nodded his head while stroking his white beard. He was also confused.

"She fell unconscious just like this a week ago. The physician had said the same back then."

Dan raised his eyebrows when he heard that.

At the same time, he nodded his head while saying

"Don’t worry. I think she should wake up within one or two hours. In the meantime, I will go and look through my books again. Maybe I can find something useful."

Dan actually didn’t have much hope. His books were literally printed inside his mind and if there was any such condition that matched with Evelyn, he would have known of it.

But he still gave Regan hope because he seemed to know that the latter might bring one physician after another which would be a waste of time if he didn’t say so.

Regan nodded his head and stayed beside Evelyn.

When Rex and Elias returned, they also came to see Evelyn. Regan also told them what Dan had said.

Rex and Elias were also confused.

However, Elias suddenly remembered the peculiar behavior of the man he had brought with him.

’I should show that man to Dan’

Thinking this, Elias took his leave and took the sack in which the man was to Dan.

Dan was grumpy as he checked the man because he was still looking for anything that could help him know about Evelyn’s condition.

But when Elias said that he wouldn’t leave, he had to check on the man. As he checked the man, Dan’s eyebrows jumped because he didn’t find anything wrong with the man as well.

Have his skills got some rust? Dan wondered suddenly.

Elias was getting impatient seeing the silent Dan and asked

"What happened, Physician Dan? Does he have some sort of brain disease? I have that guess seeing his peculiar behavior."
