Chapter 191: A Friend Or A Danger?

Evelyn was surprised when she turned in the direction of the voice and saw the person who was calling her.

"Peri!"

She called out in surprise and took a step forward in Peri’s direction leaving Regan’s hand in the air which was before on her waist.

Regan had a deep frown on his forehead when he stared at Peri. It was unknown whether the frown was there seeing how Evelyn easily forgot him as soon as Peri appeared or because of something else.

But whatever it was, it could be seen that Regan didn’t like Peri at all. Even Rex could see this and had an amused expression on his face.

"Regan, don’t tell me that you feel upset just because Evelyn has a friend. That is not healthy."

While saying his last few words, Rex actually had a serious expression on his face. Though he supported his brother’s feelings for Evelyn, he would never support a love that was to turn into an obsession.

That was neither healthy for Evelyn nor for Regan.

Regan who heard Rex actually glared at Rex and said coldly

"Don’t spit out rubbish!"

Rex rolled his eyes in return and both of them saw Evelyn and Peri holding each other hands as they talked.

"She is Raphael’s concubine."

Rex suddenly heard Regan’s words and raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"Is that so?"

He was not aware of any such thing. Then his eyes suddenly narrowed as he whispered

"Is she the same girl who was successful in running away from the arena?"

"Yes"

Regan answered in one word.

Rex nodded his head. That day, though he was present in the same hall, he had not paid much attention. He had paid attention to the slaves in the arena only when he had realized that Regan had sent Lavo to protect one of the slaves.

Needless to say, Rex was left surprised by Regan’s actions but since he was aware of how rare this behavior of his brother was, he immediately approached Evelyn.

And Rex knew today that he was right back then.

"She had left Evelyn alone as soon as she found a safe place."

Regan said coldly and Rex again nodded his head. But a few moments later, he said seriously

"I understand your worries. But you should be careful while warning Evelyn to stay away from her. From what I see, Evelyn seemed to have a deep relationship with Peri. We don’t know for how long they have been with each other but she knows her before you. She might not like it if we say anything about her friend."

Regan’s frown deepened with Rex’s words.

He had not thought that this matter was so delicate. He was actually thinking of asking Evelyn to stay away from Peri because the latter didn’t seem to be safe for Evelyn to him.

However, if it pushed Evelyn away from him...Regan didn’t want that.

So he would need to look out for her on his own.

On the other hand, Evelyn was feeling happy to see someone familiar after so many days.

"Peri, how have you been?"

Peri’s eyes were slightly teary as she stared at Evelyn but she blinked them away and said

"I have been just alright. But you seem to be living well."

Peri looked lost as she stared at Evelyn’s beautiful gown. To her, Evelyn looked no less than a beautiful angel at that moment. Which woman wouldn’t wish to look beautiful?

And before she had called out to Evelyn, she had noticed how Regan was holding Evelyn. It could make anyone realize how much the prince cared for Evelyn.

Peri had been shocked when she heard that Prince Regan had married a slave. She was also well aware that Prince Regan’s slave was none other than Evelyn. However, she had still found unable to believe that Evelyn would ever be able to do such a thing.

She still remembered how Evelyn had looked neutral and blank when she had said that getting into Royal Palace was a good opportunity for them as they could win a Royal Prince’s heart and make their lives easy.

However, Evelyn looked as if she repulsed the idea or she didn’t even understand its importance.

But the same Evelyn was now standing in front of her today.

And she was not a concubine like her, but a main wife of the Royal Prince.

Peri’s eyes suddenly went to Evelyn’s wrist and her heart stilled for a moment when she didn’t see the black band. Her eyes then went to her own wrist where the black band was still there.

The sheer difference between both of them now seemed huge.

Evelyn was no longer a slave but she was.

Evelyn was silently observing Peri’s actions. She wondered if she was having a wrong guess because Peri seemed too distant all of a sudden.

Peri had shown her kindness which Evelyn had never seen before meeting Regan. She had really considered Peri as her friend. She had even tried to ask about Peri from the maids before leaving Royal Palace but when she came to know that Peri was now a prince’s concubine, she didn’t know what to feel.

Peri must be happy.

After all, that was what Peri wanted. Evelyn had thought.

Since the prince wanted to leave the next morning back then, she couldn’t oppose him and say that she wanted to meet Peri. At that time, she was still afraid of the prince like her masters in the past.

So she had comforted herself by saying that Peri got what she wanted.

But Evelyn suddenly wondered if Peri had worried for her like she had been worried for Peri.

Amidst these thoughts of Evelyn, Peri also came out of her trance and put a forced smile on her lips. She left Evelyn’s hand and whispered in a despair-filled voice

"I shouldn’t touch you otherwise they would think that I have dirtied you by my touch."
