The Masked prince -
Chapter 189: The Reason
Chapter 189: The Reason
Derrick stared at all the ministers silently.
There was a small smirk on his lips as he had finally confirmed something. In the past few years, Derrick had always wondered why the ministers in his Royal Court were so repulsive towards Regan ascending the throne.
A few days ago, he finally had a guess and now he had confirmed it today.
He had been surprised to see how some ministers could agree even with Richard ascending the throne but they wouldn’t agree with Regan who had shown his capabilities of protecting the Empire by fighting on the battlefield.
He had finally found out the reason.
It was simply because Regan would not let any girl approach himself. The selfish ministers wished that the prince ascending the throne should be the one who would be married to their daughter...so that they could gain indirect control over the throne.
Amongst his sons, only Raphael and Richard were the ones who had taken concubines and hence the ministers thought there was a chance for their daughters. Therefore, they supported Richard and Raphael.
But they won’t support Regan.
Now Regan finally married a girl...even though she was a slave, It proved that he was a man in the end.
So Derrick thought of a plan when Minister Rowan suddenly came to him. He was well aware of his desires when Minister Rowan suddenly started to talk about his daughter Laurel.
But amidst all this, when Minister Rowan was thinking that he was achieving his purpose, he didn’t know that Derrick was using him.
Derrick’s achievement was that he found a way to create an agreement between the ministers to make Regan the next King
Of Course, for this, he had to use many people and Evelyn was one of them. After all, if Regan had not married her, then he would not have guessed such a thing.
Derrick was not silent regarding Regan’s marriage with Evelyn because he thought that he couldn’t do anything.
Instead, he was having his own plans.
He was paving the way to the throne for Regan.
Yes, Regan married Evelyn who was a slave before. However, Derrick was sure that as long as Regan married someone else and made that girl his Queen in the future, he could become the next King.
Hence, nothing was spoiled yet.
His eyes then went to Regan. Somewhere he actually hoped that Laurel made some kind of effect on Regan. Because that would mean that Regan was not as serious about this slave girl as he had thought.
However, Regan looked at Minister Rowan coldly after hearing his words.
"She is your daughter?"
Minister Rowan had a feeling from Regan’s cold voice that what he was going to say next won’t be anything good. However, he put that thought aside and looked at Regan eagerly with a respectful smile on his lips.
"Your daughter is very disrespectful and shameless."
The smile on Minister Rowan’s lips suddenly disappeared when he heard these words. This time, he couldn’t even compose himself because Regan never give him such a chance.
Holding Evelyn’s waist gently, he continued coldly as he remembered whatever Elias had told him about how Laurel had insulted Evelyn.
"She was a guest in my Palace yet she dares to disrespect my wife...who is the mistress of my Palace. Not only this, the disgusting game of seduction that your daughter started...it almost made me wish to throw her out of my Palace. It was only because I respected His Majesty’s order, that I let your daughter stay. But it would be better if she doesn’t show her face to me in the future."
Minister Rowan’s face was completely red with embarrassment when Regan finished. Regan didn’t even leave him able enough to raise his head with the arrogance he used to possess before.
He could clearly hear the snickers of other ministers behind him.
"It is truly surprising to hear whatever His Highness said. I had heard great things about Lady Laurel before."
Minister Rowan heard one of the ministers say. His heart was filled with rage but he couldn’t say anything except hear them mocking him.
What had Laurel done?!
She didn’t leave him capable enough to show his face!
Flicking the sleeves of his robe, Minister Rowan walked away from there after saying to Derrick politely that he had some kind of work.
Of Course, everyone knew that he was leaving for some other reason.
After Minister Rowan left, Derrick looked at Regan with soft eyes. Though he was disappointed that Laurel was not able to leave a good impression on Regan, he was actually moved by his words that Regan respected his order and let Laurel stay in his Palace.
However, what Derrick didn’t know was that Regan’s words also carried a purpose.
Regan was now aware that he had to at least be cordial with Derrick...otherwise, Arthur might destroy the whole Alfaros.
However, when Derrick looked at him so softly with fatherly love-filled eyes, he couldn’t look at him back. It was too difficult for him to accept Derrick’s love and care after whatever happened a few years ago.
On the other hand, Evelyn was left shocked by Regan’s behavior. She had never expected him to be so straightforward regarding Laurel’s behavior.
She disliked Laurel before but now she suddenly felt sympathy for the latter because she knew very well that the life ahead for Laurel might not be that easy.
Rumors regarding whatever Regan said would not take long to spread around.
Laurel might be unable to find a groom of her choice in the future.
Evelyn, however, didn’t say anything and continued to maintain a calm expression on her face.
"Let’s go."
She heard the prince’s deep voice in her ears and nodded her head.
Holding Regan’s arm she turned around and walked with him wherever he led her to. They had taken only a few steps when Rex suddenly came across them and said
"Regan, you didn’t leave Minister Rowan with any dignity."
"He didn’t have any since the start."
Regan said calmly and Rex sighed.
There was actually a helpless expression on Rex’s face.
"I can understand that you don’t want to gain anyone’s support but at least don’t make them stand against you."
